hi, have just heard from a friend who is waiting for her passport and rang them to check progress that liverpool office is closed. she flies wednesday 31st july and hoping she doesnt have to go to glasgow next tuesday to pick it up. mine and my husbands passports need renewing as we go on august 23rd and havent done them yet so perhaps i had better get a move on now if this is true. has anyone else heard anything about liverpool office?

I don't see anything on the IPS website to suggest that the Liverpool office is closed. However, it may not be relevant unless you require an urgent personal appointment, as postal or online applications may not necessarily be processed by your local office in any case.

Just to say my passport arrived on friday :) it took exactly 2 weeks from them getting it to me getting it back
Pretty good for this time of year i think :cheers

The Liverpool office is not closed.

However, from Wednesday 23rd until Friday 25th, the PCS are on strike.

This will obviously have ramifications on the service levels on offer and each office will be affected differently.

My niece is due to fly out to cyprus with us on 13th August, but ive seen today that all the passport offices has gone on strike and her passport is supposed to be delivered 3rd August, Do you think we will get it in time? :yikes :que

The 3 day strike is due to end on Friday. If she applied for her passport in plenty of time and has already been given an anticipated delivery date of 3 August, then hopefully it won't be affected. At least she has another 10 days after that, if there are any delays.

can you still use your passport after getting married with your former name as i thinke its a bit of rip off if you have to get a replacement after just one year of getting a passport the having to pay all over again full price for a new one. can anyone shed any light on this please.

If you are booked as a couple then your passport has to have your married name on it .I would check it out before i took the chance .The link below may be of help to you.

Your surname has to be the same on your passport as on your flight tickets/hotel booking/insurance docs.

But no, you don't have to change your name in your passport as soon as you are married. You can wait until its due to expire, or you can just leave it in your maiden name (so long as you remember to keep booking your holiday details with your maiden name).

Remember though, if doing that, you won't be able to use your passport as photo ID in the UK, as the surname will not be the same as your other financial details (bank accounts, any credit, mortgage etc, if you change them after marriage).

:duh My friend booked our flight tickets and booked mine in my married name, though my passport is still in old name. Tickets booked thru Airflights.co.uk, who tell me that providing i got married within the last 2 years ( i did) i can travel with my 'old name' passport, and 'new name' tickets, as long as i take my marriage certificate. The customer service rep at Airflights got a bit uppity when i asked her if she was 'sure', as this conflicts with 'advice' by the passport agency, though their reasons (apart from wanting another £72 for a new passport) are that i may be refused entry into Turkey.

Am hacked off with this, cant get a number for Onur Air to ask them, to change the name on the ticket, although its not yet been issued, is £50 (according to airflights) and more importantly....its just a NAME change on the passport....how can they justify charging in full for another one? Doesnt cost anything to change a name on a UK driving licence, and they require the same documentation as the passport agency. :que Seems a rip off to me.

I guess as i dont want to risk being refused boarding there's no choice really...2 new pics, ( i hear vaseline on the lens helps with the wrinkles :( ) new passport, and £72 less spending money. :cry

A name cannot be changed on a passport anyone wanting to use a new name has to have a new passport. As I see it you have two options.
Get a new passport or
Change your name with Onur Air.
I can't see why you would be denied entry into Turkey as all you have to do is show your passport on entry not your air ticket, but even though you have been told by Airflights that you can travel with old name passport and wedding certificate you need to make absolutely sure that this is correct with Onur Air.

I have read on the passport office web site that an adult can apply 9 months in advance to renew a passport and have the months added on to the expiry date, can anyone confirm that this is the same when renewing a childs passport. Thank you

Laudan,

Yes, that is correct. It's the same for children and adults.

can anyone please help my mate

he is going on holiday to turkey a week on saturday booked a last minute holiday but didn't realise he needed a valid 6 month passport, he has 3 months left on his.

he went to the post office 3 weeks ago and got the form and photo and then paid for the post office to check the form. they told him everything was ok and the form was sent off.

he returned home from work today to find an envelope with a letter to say that the photos were no good.
he phoned the post office to complain and they will not accept any responsability (even though he paid the fee)

his problem is he hasn't got a new passport can anyone advise anything as he doesn't want to lose his holiday (his wife and daughter are really worried now, they have passports)

any advise would be gratefully received and i will pass it on

There is a disclaimer on the PO form which says they will not accept responsibility even if you pay them for the check and send service . . .

I think that perhaps the only option now would be to go to a passport office direct and obtain one that way?
