All US airports have the 100mls or less restriction, but they measure it as 3oz.

That could well be the explanation as I think 3oz is just under 100mls, I think it's 9?

I'm going to make sure that all ine are under 100mls and I'm also going to ring Belfast International to find out how many items you're allowed to have in the bag. Going over to England in March travelling with hand luggae only, I had 13 items in my liquids bag largest was 35mls hand cream and neither Dublin nor Stansted had a problem.

I travelled home from Belfast and they had the strictest regulations re hand liquids and what they are contained in.

The plastic bag that I have used on many flights without they rejected. 2" too wide and I think 3" too long. Only had 4 items in the bag but no they would budge! Another lady who had the same bought a packet containing 3 bags and she gave me one of hers.

Now bought bags at the correct size so should avoid that pitfall!

Is Belfast allowing the clear bag which Accessorize sell or used to sell, it has zip closure?

Been a while since I went through Belfast, waht's their attitude to things like ipods and Nintendo DS's? If they swab my ipod and it gets wiped, I'll not be happy.

can anyone tell me if I can take an inhaler on the plane in my hand luggage it has a total of 100 micrograms of pressurised inhalation suspension. My husband might need to use it on the flight if he becomes breathless.

bonnielass,

That's not a problem. It's classed as medication so is excempt from the restrictions. You are permitted to take medication onboard that you may need for the duration of the flight.

They didn't even look at my plastic bag at Manchester. I took the bag which contained a Sunday supplement mag from the newspaper the day before. Hey, it was clear and it was a bag! Nobody even bothered. I only had lighter and mascara and some hair serum in there anyway. They were giving clear bags away at security as well.

Awful how some airports are making such a profit on them and how they are being so finicky about size, type of bag etc. Unless it's an across the board set ruling for all UK flights and airports I don't see the point in being so strict really.

Hi SandC ... you say that they didn't look at your plastic bag, but presumably it went through the x-ray screening process along with any other hand luggage. They would only need to take it aside for closer physical examination if there were any concerns during the routine screening process.

As for the bags themselves, the only reason that airports provide them either free or for sale is because some passengers haven't seen or bothered to adhere to restrictions asking them to arrive at at the airport with their liquids pre-packed in a suitable clear plastic bag.

It was Belfast International Airport. I have never come across this stringent application of the rules before. Now I will be sure to take only these little bags with tiny pots of make up or whatever. The rest will go in my suitcase. Either that or I will buy when I reach my destination.

EPIPENS?

I am taking a school party on a flight from Heathrow to Chicago. On of the party has an allergy to peanuts and carries an epipen. Will they be allowed this in their hand luggage?

Now that I am no longer able to carry my toiletries in my hand luggage, I'm looking for ways to lighten the load in my suitcase. Years ago I remember packing electrical goods in my hand luggage. Would I be able to carry my straighteners and iron in my hand luggage? I would hate for them to be confiscated at security.

Asked work colleague today and it was Belfast City airport. She said they were confiscating liquids off everyone. Am thinking it'll be an idea to phone International to ask:

What type of bags they'll allow, hopefully my clear one from Accessorize with zip fastener will be ok, if not I do have small freezer type.
Provided everything fits in ok and bag can be closed, if there is a maximum number of items allowed.

No mention of electronic items on International's werbsite other than the large items having to be removed and screened seperately, might be taking laptop with me as hotel room has wireless internet or there's a web cafe in the hotel reception area. Other alternative is to spend the £30 on the web browser for the Nintendo DS.

To answer Bonnielass's question aboput inhalers, hubby didn't put his in clear bag, was carrying the blue one in his pocket (put that in tray with loose change and other small items) and orange one was in hand luggage. Nothing was said. That's Dublin, Stansted and Faro.

For return home, Copenhagen Airport's website is saying 100mls or less per container in bag no more than 20x20cms.

Yes you can carry them in hand luggage, but be careful of the weight as some airlines are now wéighing hand luggage.

Just found this article. http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/198338

My iPod has been through scanners at Dublin, Faro and Stansted. Not had any problems. I'm wondering if the person in the article had the explosives/swab test done on their iPod and that wiped it. A few years ago, hubby and I took our laptop iBook G3 version over to my parents and on way back through Stansted, we were asked to switch it on which wasn't a problem, the other thing that was done was a cloth of some sort was wiped over the iBook and the person doing it said it was to check for explosives. I'm wondering if that could wipe my iPod. Thursday I'm doing BFS-STN, followed by STN-CPH on Friday morning and doing th return journey on 5th August. Am thinking about taking my laptop with me as hotel we're staying in has wireless internet in the rooms. Have just over yesterday evening and this morning got wireless set up at home. Is there ANY chance at all that any of the tests that security may do on iPod or laptop could wipe either/both?

Got to the article by googling ipod wiped by airport security and the link I've posted is the first one that comes up.

Thanks to anyone who can answer this one.

None that I am aware of. X-ray security systems don't effect solid state media and it would take a strong magnet to damage a hard drive. There are thousands of electronic devices such as laptops, mp3 players, cameras of all types that go through airports every day without a problem. The swabs used to pick up residues for testing are no problem either. I once had my underwater video housing tested for allsorts because it had a few salt crystals left over from the last time it was used. I got some strange looks!

Help

Can I take my hairdryer through with me in a carrier bag as hand luggage have done it a few years ago, dont know what the rules are now.. as my weight restriction is 20 kgs dont want to be over, and I have 5 kgs of hand luggage.I will only have a handbag.

Flying out sunday morning to malaga...from manchester

It depends on the airline and airport as to whether you can carry more than one piece of hand luggage. You need to check out their individual websites.

20 kgs is a good luggage allowance - many now only offer 15kgs. Surely you can manage to put the hairdryer in the hold luggage. I prefer to put as much as I can in the hold but am always still well under 20kgs as as I do not like having to carry much around the airport.
