Me, my husband and two children are off to the Sun Tropical in Playa Blanca in a couple of months time. I have noticed on recent reviews that some people have upgraded to All inclusive whilst at the hotel. This is different to reviews from previous years, when it appears that you were unable to upgrade. Has anyone got any ideas on what the current policy is at this hotel for upgrading, as were booked, originally as AI, but had our booking cancelled by first choice, due to lack of availability but were able to book self catering with them!
Thanks
and also do they allow ypu to take your drinks up to your rooms of an evening?
thank you in advance
carnt wait to go now, only 1 month and 4 days to go
When you say trousers, you are able to wear three quarter lengths for meals there. Lunch time many visited there in shorts. No it is not too formal as some places are. Jeans will also be fine.
thank you for that,he prefers to wear three quater lengths so he should be fine, thank you for your reply xx
was just wondering if anyone could tell me if there is a bath in the room?ive heard they tend to only have showers over there.we are goin AI.
also do they allow you to take drinks from the bars back to your room?
and lastly do they provide towels?(not beach towels?)
also do they provide kettles in the room?
sorry for all the questions
thank you in advance

They provide some towels but take some of your own as you can never have enough.
You can't take drinks back to your apartments as far as I know. If you're going AI this shouldn't be a problem anyway as there's a bar right across from the main apt blocks and the bar in the entertainment complex gives beer in plastic cups!

Im going to the holiday village in a few weeks time and was wondering :
How much it is for the key for the back gate ?
How much is it per person to upgrade to all inclusive ?

A tip for you though, use the back gate and dont go all the way from the front of the complex! Takes twice as long
The Back gate is basically free. You just need to put down a 10 euro deposit to get a key which you get back when you check out.
The walk to the beach is half as long by taking the back gate as Debbie said. The walk into Playa Blanca is about 10-15minutes and then a further 5 minutes walk to the sea front were the majority of the resteraunts are. A very good one being Lartista, amazing food and super staff!
I'm not sure what the price is to upgrade to All Inclusive but a tip for you, the food is very similar every day. The breakfast was nice but we didn't use the lunch and dinner meals and got food from the mini-market or went into Playa Blanca instead. From my experience you can take drinks to your room that come from the bar as they come in Plastic Cups and not in glasses. Another tip, if you are staying self catering then drinks from the bar get very pricy so consider going down to the mini-market and getting bottles or cans in and using the cups from your apartment as this works out at about half the price. There isn't really a dress code, as long as you aren't dripping wet or in your swimming trunks then you should be fine;)
You do get proper towels which are changed daily/every other day by the great cleaning staff. Our room didn't have a kettle when we arrived but after a trip to reception a technician brought us one over. There IS a bath with a shower also inside it.
As sin said the pools are cold but you do tend to aclimatise pretty quickly. One feature I love about this hotel is that in addition to the main pool each block has it's own, pretty big, pool with the same stuff as the main pool i.e. sunbeds and umbrellas.
We booked with First Choice a couple of Years ago but our block was out of use because of problems with the pool when we were there so we were transfered to the sister Hotel Sun Island directly next door. There is a connecting gate between the two and people from both sides can you use the facilities in both hotels. Sun Island is virtually identical but has a few less features and a bigger garden area. They are both excellent though. We went again in August just gone but booked to stay in the Sun Island, knowing we could use Sun Tropical's facillities, because it was more than a bit cheaper!

Now that the summer season has started, could anyone that has returned from sun tropical tell me if it is possible to upgrade to all inclusive once at the hotel, and if so, how much it costs. Also, any other comments good or bad would be appreciated. Thank you.
Has anyone in a wheelchair used this hotel? If so what were the facilities like?
The food in Sun Tropical is ok, breakfasts are excellant, buffet style and the evening food is good. There is also a pizza restaurant and a snack bar within the complex, food there is ok. Entertainment in the Dome is grand but the one complaint i would have is the sound effects within the dome aren't great. The local Tropical beer is very tempting . Staff within the complex are very good and the reps can be helpfull. The taxi service is reliable, €3 to the town centre and the cabs are spotless with many driving Mercs, all cabs are red.
The complex has a sister complex next door called Sun Island which can be accessed tru a side gate, here they have spa treatments. The Playa Blanca area has a great beach nearby called Dorado, where you can hire jet ski's banana rides etc, local burger king right above beach also a few pubs and mini market. Ask as many questions about the place if you want regards Paul
If anyone has stayed here recently would you please add your review here:-
Hi Paul, thanks very much for the info, a few other things that have crossed my mind. Someone said the buffet restraunt is underground! Is it still quite nice? Also, I know it sounds daft being a wheelchair user but we have requested an upper room so that it's a bit quieter incase I need to rest through the day, do all blocks have lifts? and can you request a particular block, if so what would you recommend and can you contact the hotel direct?
If your hubby drives, a hire car can be rented from HV, its around 45€ to enter the park, also their is a bus tour included as cars cannot drive around the park.
Do you know if you have to pay the entrance fee to visit the restaurant alone. We have no desire to do the coach trip around the park again, I've never been so scared of imminent death
It's quite strange but next year the holiday village is moving to flaming appartments, that's where we stayed and it was a Thomson Superfamily. We thought it was great and will be even better with the added benefits of the holiday village concept. It was perfect for the beach.
This will be the first time we've returned to the same destination, it was one of our favourite places, we normally like to try different places each year but thought a 7 year gap would be long enough to see if there's any major changes.
Hxx
