 Definitely okay for shorts starry
Reply
As you go into the Residence restaurant, there is a sign requesting men to wear long trousers. However some did wear shorts in the evening and were not turned away. My menfolk all wore trousers to dinner and then went and changed back into their shorts for the rest of the evening, when we went in August and the evenings were very hot. I think 3/4 trousers are a better idea than shorts.

I've now caught up on the last few pages (if not my washing!). Haven't got round to doing a review yet, but have a few quickies.

We had a free upgrade to a seaview, room was modern and spacious enough for us 4, but not as big as our previous rooms in P block, and def not enough wardrobe space or hangers (but then we do take rather a lot of stuff) and also no door on the bathroom which meant my 14 year old getting changed in the toilet! Room cleaned every day and towels (which we left on floor ;) ) replaced.

Food was fantastic as we remembered. Breakfast in village restaurant quite busy (by 10.30) and a bit of a bunfight, any sort of food you could wish for except english sausages! I'd recommend eggs, bacon and fried potatoes, and my kids had pancakes every single morning. Lunch at Marina lovely if a bit samey after 2 weeks. White wine very gluggable, staff very helpful and friendly. Dinner at Marina fantastic esp mussels, duck, steak, roast lamb, chinese flavours. Don't let the label "veal" put you off - I am sure it is just what we call beef. We went for dinner at times between 7pm and 8.15 and always found a table right away, except the 8.15 time when we waited 5 mins and a waiter went and found us one. Have to say there were a few wasps around this time - but not bad enough to keep us away and none when the sun went down.

The sunbed scramble in the morning was a bit of a pain - but only if you wanted to be around the main village pool. We ended up getting down there by 8.45am at latest to get 3 together, but other days went down later and eventually managed to get a few beds. Getting sunbeds round the other pools or the beach was a lot easier. Village pool lively - games fun to watch, pool volleyball good fun. But I would not recommend the water polo - the macho guys were just too rough with each other. One day there was nearly fisticuffs!! Hubs got a few scuffs, bruises and bumps aswell and he's a big guy. Slides at Childrens Paradise and the residence pool great fun.

Thank you Gregg (think it was you!) for suggesting getting a couple of bottles of vodka from airport on the way in and taking it out with us in the evening - I felt a bit sneaky but my god it saved us a huge amount of money!! Bar prices are very high - I think it worked out at about 9 euros for a bacardi and coke. We went into Olu Deniz and got a couple more bottles of vodka but it was about double the price of the airport so wish we'd got more there. Also got some coke, crisps, sweets, snacks, lilos etc while we were there and saved more money. I do think LW's prices have gone up - our bill for 2 weeks for cokes ;) water, ice lollies and one or two alcoholic drinks was £295.

Thank you Bridd (think it was you!) for mentioning the library. Ran out of books 4 days in and got some more - all up to date titles -from the Residence library.

The shows in the ampitheatre were a bit hit and miss - acrobats and circus show were good but the "Comedy Show" was absolutely dire!! My 6 year old enjoyed it though ... The party nights were fantastic though - white party and wild west party when we were there - and great fun.

My son went in the kidsclub a good few times. Only thing was the club for his age - Jokers 6 - 8 yrs - had activities that I wasn't sure he was old enough for eg banana boat ride and jetskiing! So he ended up going in with the younger club for 4 - 5 yrs. He was fine with that though and a Maria and Nil in Snoopies remembered him from last year too.

I had been really worried about the heat and how busy it was going to be but everything was fine and wont be putting me off going the same time next year. Only difference I noticed in customers this time of year was how many more teenagers there were! Also experienced how rude some of the Russians are to the staff.

Will get round to doing a full review some time in next few weeks but I'm a bit busy at the moment checking out prices for next year!! Any recommendations for a good price anyone?

Hi all, just another quickie. Is everything priced in Euros at Lykia and is the bill paid in euros at the end?

Many thanks.

ps Hope the washing is going ok Anice! :tup

yes things are priced in euro but you can pay with sterling at reception when ever you want ,we paid every few days to keep account of our spending, but you could pay at the end of the holiday

Thanks Karen, just wondering then if it is worth changing to euros. We probably have about £150 in turkish, so do you think it would be ok to just take sterling?
Reply
i would , its bad enough keeping tracks in lira and sterling ,never mind euro too :duh , the euro is strong against the £ too, its up to you but i always use sterling in turkey and they accept it fine, saying that the rate has dropped quite a bit and last time i looked at my turkish bank it was only 2.24 to the £ :yikes , we are going in 2 weeks time to turkey so looks like its going to be dearer for us as well as price increases :que

It certainly isn't worth changing your money to euros before you go in order to pay the bill at LW. Although things are priced in euros, for reasons best known to themselves, their bill will have already converted everything to lira. Presumably if like Karen you ask to pay in sterling, they will just do another conversion. To save worrying about taking cash, we found it easiest to just pay with a credit card. The local shops and markets in the area will take sterling if you want. It is the Antalya area where you need euros really.

I find it really confusing :que Everything at LW is priced in Euros and then I think YTL in small print. We paid our bill in sterling. Taxis are priced in YTL and then Euros in small print but we paid taxis in sterling too! Prices in Olu were in YTL and Euros, but you could also pay in sterling, even in the supermarkets and bars. Bloody Gorgeous gave us quotes for trips in Euros and Sterling but not YTL. But then I think when we were bartering for sunglasses, wallets etc we bartered in YTL! Whatever we paid with though they gave us change in YTL.

Basically we took £150 Euros and the rest Sterling! I think its easier to pay the bill with a card to but last year we had a problem with ours and had just enough cash to pay the bill at the end of the fortnight!

We kept a check on the bill every 4 or 5 days - last year we were charged for a few things we hadn't bought - but this year there were no errors at all.

When are you going starry? I'm jealous :cry

Before I've even peeled or got all my washing dry - I'm trying to get quotes for next year - anyone seen any bargains out there?? Cheapest so far is £4,200 (that's approx £1,000 more than we paid this year!)

Hi All,

Anice - glad you enjoyed your drinks - they taste better when you know they are cheaper :rofl

I agree, everything in LW is priced in euro with ntl in small print, you can pay in any currancy you want at reception, if you are paying by card ie- debit card - tell your british bank the dates you will be in turkey as they may reject it at the pay point, HSBC will stop any transactions - in case your card has been copied and your not in turkey !!.

booked for next year anice with tomas cook only £10 increase on this years price.

We stayed last year and had two rooms on P block with a distant side sea view. These had only recently been refurbished and the bathrooms were lovely.

Have a great time.

We'd love to have two rooms, or interconnecting, but simply can't afford it, although I am getting quotes for this for next year. My two (14 and 6) just put up with it for 2 weeks cos otherwise we'd be going somewhere else.

Me and the family are now totally excited :clap . We leave for Lykia World on Monday morning and cannot wait. Can anyone confirm whether you have to pay for the specialty restaurants or is it just a booking fee, have read varying reports on this. Also is the entertainment in the evenings ok, wheres best to go. Also its our 13th wedding anniversary when out there, would they lay anything on if we told them?
Thanks
Darren

there is a small fee in the speciality restaurants , we were told this is to cover the staff as its waitress service, its not a lot and varies for each restaurant its usually around 3-6 euro per person, might have gone up slightly but the few we tried we were more than happy to pay this ,as they were all wonderful.

as for entertainment we didnt discover the live music in the residence area til the last few days :duh !!! which for us was much better than the main area, as there was a lot of music played that wasnt our taste, that really was a shame !! especially as we got married there and would have much preferred wedding table in residence :( , the beach bar also does something in the evenings but again we missed that :cry

have a lovely holiday, ive got 13 days to go but not coming to lykia

hi dazman

I don't know if you are still looking in, but I have been back about a week and we were in Lymra Block on the second floor and our room was very nice, with a kind of side sea view from the balcony.

I think Lymra must have been refurbished since you were there as our room looked like it had been freshly decorated all the walls looked newly painted and the tiles etc in the bathroom seemed new, and so did the washbasin and loo.

I think I was in a caterory 2a Room.

Just thought I would let you know in case you end up there anyway, you should be fine.

Have a great holiday.
