Me too Doe, we love the place, like I said suspicions are it was the Residence Pool which second week was packed as half term week, and there were lots of babies with no swim nappies in the pool, Lamia Guardia lives in pools and can stay in your system for weeks.
Have looked at booking next year but its so expensive, have always booked with MyTravel as I worked for them but now I don't and TC are so expensive.

anyway im hoping 1 day to go back to lykia ,ill keep an eye out for prices too, we had no illness when we were there and there was 30 of us !!! i got a good price with airtours, paid the deposit, but they had priced it wrong and wouldnt honour our price so you were very lucky they honoured yours chris
on the subjust of illness, I went in the sea near the residence end and mainly used the adult residence pool the whole time i was there last year, and i caught it for 48hrs but it came back a week later - could it have been carried from the residence main pool by an adult into the blue lagoon one ?? - this year in july i was fine and never heard of anyone being ill from the bluie lagoon pool.
Why is lw overlooking this ?? surly they would want to stop this before us holiday makers stop going !! OR have staff looking out for non nappy wearers etc around the pools

I would imagine if it was the sort of thing people caught in the first couple of days there Lykia might be aware of it as they have a permanent on-site Doctor who people would go to. I was just very thankful my kids didn't get it.
The place itself seemed spotless and I sat on our balcony one day whilst the maid did the room and she spent a good 30 mins on it, so I dont think it's a general hygiene issue. The food preperation and displays were also spotless and staff were always cleaning and wiping. Weird.
Hi cazzashirley, We returned from Lykia also in June and 3 out of 5 of us had been extremely ill with vomiting and diarrohea, my husband and son even went to to see the on site doc as they were so ill but were just told it was 'stomach flu' and were given those rehydrate sachets to drink, my husband also handed in a sample to our docs on our return home as his symptoms returned the day after we returned home ( the 3 of us fell ill at the start of our second week), his sample showed no infections but we were a little suspicious that there was definitly something going on at Lykia while we were there as we spoke to too many families that had the same symptoms. Regarding the residence pool though, two of our kids swam in there every day and they weren't ill (thank goodness), but I really feel IMO that there is def a problem there or at least there was back in June, we have been on many foreign holidays from camping to hotels, apartments etc and never once been ill, not even a tiny tummy pain, the first time we go AI and 3 of us are ill. It is very strange as I agree that the place is spotless and the food cooked fresh in front of you. I do think the problem should at least be looked into as there was a family very ill on this forum last year after a holiday to Lykia, so something is lurking around there.......
I didn't drink a drop of the jugged water, only bottled and I only swam in the residence pool once. It really is baffleing.
Perhaps it was the water the salad was washed in. None of my family ate the salad and they were all fine it's just me as usual.
Given how these parasites get transmitted, the pool does sound most likely, but it probably depends on being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and ingesting water, before the pool filteration has had chance to clean up any 'accidents'. If this is the case, I'm not sure LW could do much else to avoid it, other than maybe publicise any significant outbreaks of 'tummy trouble' - but of course they won't be keen on doing that!

I think it might even be possible to get it even if you weren't in a contaminated pool. I saw loads of people cutting the fresh bread with their bare hands (they might have had it) and not using the protective napkin Lykia put out. Wasteful but I always took a fresh loaf.
I also saw a Russian lady pick up 6 or 7 peaches gently squeeze and then reject each one. I felt like saying do you realise 7 people will now eat something you have touched. Grrrh. I also saw someone stick their fingers in a dessert to try it. (gave that dessert a wide berth)
There is no way Lykia could guard against those kinds of poor hygeine practices on the part of their guests as it's lack of education.

My son loved the football that was on most mornings and evenings and my daughter rather reluctantly decided to try the teen-club - best move of the hol, she made loads of friends and is still crying about coming home!
We split our time between the village pool, children's paradise and the beach. The village pool was always entertaining but having to get up at 7.30am to put down our towels wasn't quite so funny!! (And even at that time we often didn't manage to get 8 sunbeds together.) We always got beds at children's paradise and the beach no matter what time we went at - which amazed us given the amount of people there.
On the matter of the tummy bugs, I'm not at all surprised by that - Lykia itself was spotless, the staff were forever cleaning morning, noon and night but the amount of people we saw coming out of the toilet and not washing their hands - my daughter and I were in the toilets in children's paradise one day and a couple were changing their toddler's dirty nappy, the contents of which had escaped to below his knees(!), when they'd finished they just walked out without washing their hands and proceeded into the restaurant and stood in the queue for an ice-cream!
Anyway we had an absoutely fabulous time and have started looking into prices for next year but the prices are coming back at about £6,200 - £2,000 more than we paid for it this year - any advice for getting it cheaper would be greatly appreciated!
On the tummy bug issue, while there in July and to think of it every time that I have been to LW, I have seen pool boys putting in chemicals to clean the pools after they have closed them at night and that the pools are filtered 24/7 with their system, so after reading some past posts, I think it must be from poor hygeine from other guests.
I also agree they take far too much food, always filling their bags at all meal times - what do they do with the food as some look so slim - you'd think that they have never seen a buffet before
hate to think what they would do if they came to the uk and went for a carvery !!
I checked prices for next year on the Cosmos site for the four of us in the same family room in the village that we had this year and they were :yikes I would really like two rooms in the Residence, but didn't even dare look.
No idea what they do with the food they are all skinny as rakes. Think it must be seige mentality LOL.

Bigwoo, have you looked at booking direct ? We were there the same dates as you this year, and for the same dates next year, with 15% early booking discount, you'd pay £3,500 for a Village Family Room. Flights for us were £350 each this year (day-time on T.Cook), so £1,400 for four - giving £4,900 holiday cost - of course flights may be more expensive next year...
Hi Dave we booked direct this year and looked at doing the same for next year using somewhere2stay.com which worked out at about £2,000 more expensive than this year and that's for a 1 bedroom seaview room which was a bit of a squash for us this year and gave us no privacy at all from the kids - or them from us! Priced Thomas Cook flights and they are actually cheaper for next year and are really good flight times. I'll check the website you gave me - thanks for that !
Dave
Hope it's not too long and boring lol and doesn't sound negative as we had a lovely holiday there and the only thing that would stop me from going back is the prohibative costs of taking a family of 4 there.
700 ytl ( about £300 i suppose ) does seem a lot for a 1 and half day course .Im assuming it was a scuba diver course where she would upgrade to the open water next holiday as the padi open water would of been 3/4 days with an exam.
sounds like lallys daughter did hers as well .
Yep my youngest did her open water referral and is now eagerly awaiting for her licence to arrive!! She may need it to get to school next term if this weather continues!!
Lally
It started with a free taster session in the pool, then a four/five hour session one day & a full day a few days later. In between she had a book to swot from which you get to keep and she did have to sit a test as well. By the time we arrived home her certificate was here. She loved it, said it was even better than skiing lol and wants to go back to the Red Sea. Think it actually cost 660 ytl. Probabably well OTT. Although I have realised that included my husband doing the half-day as well, so perhaps no so bad after all ?
The thing with Lykia World is once you are out there it's just easier to pay to do to things like this with them. In fairness for most things although you pay over the odds everything is very professional all the staff are competant and trained in their areas of expertise.
I know what you mean about the weather lally, it's the same down here, I thought Wales would be bathed in sunshine
According to the Dive Centre leaflet I brought back the Scuba Diver course price was 239 Euro - it's a 2007 price. If your husband also did 1/2 day (Discover Scuba) I think price was OK 239+83=322 Euro - It's not cheap, but I don't think these are too different to PADI dive course prices elsewhere.
Our 3 kids are a bit younger (10, 10 and 12) and did the 1/2 day Discover Scuba Diver course, we paid 83 Euro each - we joined them on the 40 min dive and I was very impressed by how well managed it was - they are all keen to get qualified so better start saving for next time !
Our 3 kids did their Discover Scuba dive on Thursday 31/7, and a chap called Richard also did the course - not your hubby was it ?

No wasn't my hubbie I'm afraid. Am I getting the prices mixed up ? I dont want to mislead people. When my teenage daughter finally gets up I will have a look at her certificate and see exactly what she did.
Hope I am not putting up duff info.
Bascially they had the 'free' taster session in the pool. Then they both had the half day session, but unfortunately DH isn't really fit enough for it, but DD15 was really keen so went on to do the full day. There was another chap (about 40) and his son age 10, who did the course with her, Phil and Toby.
Checked bill, three payments to the dive centre, 318.16, 259.44 and 94.00 all ytl
