4 weeks today!!! I think the excitement may just be starting to set in!!!

we go on monday - Im at that "heads done in with all I must do" stage!! :think

Shadygirl, Im not sure you will get packs for the kids, we usually take puzzle books and walkmans etc to keep us from getting bored. The meals usually arent the best!! but them Im quite fussy. My kids usually only eat the bread or crackers and the pudding. You get a small plastic ready meal thing, no choice Im afraid, a roll and butter sometimes, a cup of tea or coffee or juice for the kids, and then a pudding ( its often a chocolate mousse thing!) and sometimes cheese and crackers. To be honest we never rely on them as enough of a meal. My girls take their own earphones. If youve never flown before you will be even more excited! Its sometimes quite cold on the plane, esp at night, so take another layer! We are getting a coulple of hundred pounds of Egyptian money but just taking the rest english. The post Office can order it for you it only takes one or two days and they dont charge too much.

Now, i must go, Ive got people staying while we are away, - house & pet sitting, so Ive got to have it super clean, the gerbils and the degu's are to clean out, ive not started packing and Ive got a small mountain of ironing.....

Got back early this morning from HV ................

Great place, great staff, great everything really.......

We were in a swim up room which was brill and really glad we decided to book one, lovely and big and great to be able to wander back inside to collect a cold drink or just to cool down.

Hotel is spotless, public area's are always being cleaned as are the toliets.

Plenty for the kids to do, No children should be complaining of boredom as there are numourous activities for them througout the day and evening.

Evening entertainmaint is good - Ally and the team really do put their hearts and soles into it - yes it does get hot in the Ampitheatre but as it is Eygpt in August you can't expect anything else.

Food - plenty to choose from, always hot, Al a Carte were great too and not too difficult to book

Tipping - we didn't feel the pressure to tip in the hotel which is a first for us in Eygpt

No issues at the airport - no hassle or pressure for tips, quiet smooth to be honest

Now for the negatives ...........

Reading the bad reviews on TA and HW prior to going, cannot honeslty say we experienced any of the negatives listed,

The mini bar being chargable - knew this before hand, however having done AI for 13 years now we have always had free soft drinks in the room

Kids and the main resturant..........More of a canteen enviroment, nothing to do with the food but with the way children as young as three and four are allowed to run round, touch food and replace it, spill drinks etc, We were amazed how some adults sat back and let their kids do whatever they liked.

Poor finish in the bathrooms, didn't bother us but having paid over £3500 for self, husband and son we did expect better.

Overall would recommend the HV and would say to anyone going ignore the reviews on poor hygiene, uncooked food etc, the only illness we saw ( and got ourselves ) was due to the heat and not drinking enough for which I suffered stomach cramps three days in, I held my hand up and admitted not drinking enough the previous day, husband and son weren't ill at all.
Spoke to other guests and overheard conversations and all said they agreed that the heat was the casue, never heard anyone blame the hotel at all.

Any question please ask and I'll try to answer

jolo123,

You'll be coming back on the same plane as we get over in just over 2 weeks time. Sorry to talk of you coming back before you've even gone. ;)

Glad to see all the recent reports are looking more possitive :), I was wondering if anyone has done the day before check in at Birmingham ? they charge £5 each for it but I was thinking we might get some decent seats. Slightly worried about our suitcases though!
Counting down the weeks now and getting really excited (under 5 weeks to go ). I have been to £land and bought some lilo's a couple of giant rings and a blow up boat for the little one ! save us buying when we get there! also got some small shampoo's and shower gels etc from asda today when shopping.
Will I need some mozzie repelent as at the hv in turkey they were eveywhere and the little blighters love the taste of me and i'm allergic to them :(
I e-mailed the hv about booking swim-up rooms and they replied really quickly, I need to contact them 3 weeks before I go to see if they have any available, they do have interconnecting ones although i'm not convinced he knew I ment the swim-ups and not just standard rooms. I will ring them direct to book the rooms does anyone have the phone number and what is the time differance??? oh they are charging me 30usd per night and I guess per room to upgrade.

EEEEEK I really want to go now !!!!

You can actually get four into the swim up rooms - people who upgraded over there were able to do so and didn't have to have one of the interconnecting swim up rooms. $30 is a bargin to be honest, Go far it and you will love the fact that you can keep your drinks cool in your fridge and just nip in and out whenever you want a cold drink or to cool off as it gets very hot ( overpoweing at times )

Took mozzie repellent but after a few nights forgot to use it and never got bit, didn't hear anyone saying they had got bit either.
