Hi
Just back from HV and we had a ball. Was very worried after reading the earlier reviews on this site but didn't experience anything bad at all. Food was good and always hot and so much of it, no queues at bars (time of year I suppose), hotel and reps very helpful and the kids club were brilliant. Bob the Builder visited 3 times while we were there although it was mostly kiddies under 5 who were staying there but there were a few older kids too.
DD (3) had an amazing time, she loved the kids club, the pools, the playground etc.
Entertainment at night kept us occupied.
We also went AI but we had pots and pans in our apartment, which is a good size and clean. Complex is clean and well maintained and Balaia is very quiet. Santa Eulalia beach is lovely.
We didn't get to go out and about much as both our daughters are very young but there was so much going on in the complex that we literally didn't have time. One night we went shopping to the the Algarve Shopping Centre which is great and we also went to Zoomarine (about 20 mins away), really recommend it.
We would definitely return to HV - no doubt.
Hi Pots, Glad you had a great time :tup, good to know it's still so good, we didn't get Bob , at 37 I shouldn't complain lol . It's been a couple of months since we got back, I was wondering if you could answer a question for me please, have they got a ramp into the entertainment complex now? Just wondering if they have made any changes as they said they were.
Hi Sleepyrella - yes, there is a little ramp into the entertainment complex.
Thanks Pots, that really good to know, they are paying attention
It was good, and perfect for the children, the food the first week was great, but the second week was not so, which I put down to us being there 2 weeks and being a bit bored of it. The entertainment team are fantastic, and there is plenty for the children to do. I will write a proper review tomorrow
Did you go with Falcon / First Choice and were your flight times affected? We lost a day of our holiday as they changed the time of our flight on Thursday from night time to morning - we had to be up at 6 on Thursday morning and I'm still disappointed as we were only there for a week. I would imagine we would have been fed up with the food if we'd been there for 2 weeks too and we found we were always rushing to get down for breakfast, in for lunch and down for dinner (but thats also us being disorganised!). We had one meal in the Portuguese restaurant, never made the Italian, it was OK, if we'd been there for 2 weeks we wouldn't have gone back to the Portuguese restaurant.
Pots
PS - edited as realised that last line read incorrectly!!
Also, I requested a 1 bedroomed appt with a double bed. They are now saying it is twin beds! Are the rooms all as big as they look on the website?
Has anyone had any experience with the swim kids, we have booked for our son to lessons while we are there and just wondered if anyones kids have actually learnt through them.
Any help would be appreciated.
To be truthful, what they class as a sea view and normal people class as a sea view is totally different.
Yes, you can see the sea, with Binoculaurs or if you are on the top floor, then yes you probably could see it, But you cant see waves or sand or anyhting else thats not 100 feet Long. There is also a new apartment Block being built which blocks a good view to the sea.
Also, when they say all Inclusive, take that with a pinch of salt as well, Not everything is included.
Slush Puppies for Kids are not included, High Ropes cost 10 Euros each and like the football is not open all the time. Was only open twice when we were there. Also in the Kids Clubs, special events, eg Halloween and parties, etc cost 10 Euros as well. So please dont belive the travel agents when they tell you that everything is free, it isn't
But in saying that we went expecting the worst and came back having enjoyed a brilliant Holiday. Accomodation and Food was really good, No complaints at all. Rooms are as big , if not bigger than advertised and the swimming instructor last year was a friend of mine and does try his best to teach Kids to swim, But if you can swim yourself, the save your self some money and do it yourslef, the outside small pools and inside one will give you plenty of Incentive to do it.
Entertainment team cannot be faulted, Only major problem was someone with Chickenpox still being allowed to attend Kids club, resulting in my son being off school now with Chickenpox, which appeared 9 days after we returned, so he definetley caught them at Holiday Village.
But Im sure you will enjoy it, Just dont expect to be able to see much of the sea or expect to be woken by the crashing waves each Morning
Also see that you like to eat out, be warned it is quite a fair trek for kids to Balia and Albuferia, which has a good amount of Restaurants, some cheap, some more expensive
Have a great Holiday
thanks for the reply xor37h. I'll remember to take my binoculars then! Anyway I don't suppose we will be in our appartment long enough to worry about whether we have a sea view or not.
If you are going SC just be prepared for a taxi to any civilisation or a long walk. There really isn't anything near by. Having said that we had a brilliant time, food brilliant, hotel brilliant, entertainment team top notch!
If it's for enjoying and exploring, why go AI?
we're going June 7th until the 14th SC and are really looking forward to it!
Walk to Albuferia takes 30-40 Minutes, maybe a bit longer if you have Kids.
Taxis were'nt available at peak times.
Are there any good bars/clubs anyone can recommend?
Did anyone book a dolphin interaction with the zoo marine? If so how long are you in the pool with them for? Its 145euros, thats for a main participant two accompanying adults and two children under 8. Anyone else must pay 8euros to watch by the side of the pool-take pics etc.
Thanks, Sarah
I have booked to go to the HV in sept and will have a 10month old along with a 4 and 6 yr old. I did ask for an appartment so i would have a microwave to use a steriliser. I have seen on a few posts that alot of rooms seem to have microwaves. Does anyone know if a Family room or Twin room has one. Is the weather still hot in sept for anyone who went this time last yr.
Thankyou
We went the HV Algarve last October. Everyone we met who had children were in apartments. They tended to put couples or a couple with one child in the rooms. The apartments are lovely and spotlessly clean. We were there for 2 weeks and the weather was fantastic. We had one overcast, windy day that was abit chilly and a couple of thunderstorms on an evening but apart from that it was blue skies and high temps. We had a lovely holiday and you will to.
Going back to the Holiday Village Algarve next Saturday the 09th May after a fab time last year just wondered if anyone else was visiting at the same time???
Have a great time, we're trying the holiday village in Lanzarote in October, hope it's as good as the Algarve last year, was just looking at photos yesterday, what a lot of good memories.
We hope it is as good too, i think we will try another Holiday Village next year but our daughter is only 3 so we thought we would goto one we knew for this year!.
