That`s terrible :( makes you wonder wether it is really worth it sometimes, hope you manage to sort something out. Would it not be possible to cancel and try booking with Thomas cook or someone else ?

Absolutely disgusting, you should automatically be offered the next days flight at no cost to you, I know I would be absolutely fuming if it were me.

We were on this flight and were going for six weeks. We were offered a flight the next day going for four weeks
at an increase of £195 each. Nearly £400 more for two weeks less, we declined. We are now going F/C the
next day for four weeks at £210 each cheaper than monarch.

They should be offering you some kind of refund to fly from Gatwick as there will be no flight supplement. I would do as other suggested and try and find an alternative with another company. You may even get a last minute deal for that time tin January.

Why have these flights been cancelled?

In any case, it isn't your fault and they should have offered to let you go the following day at no extra cost.

Might just be a temporary hiccup, but I just went on to First Choice to search for holidays to Goa Jan - March 2009, it comes back with the message 'sorry but the holiday destination you have chosen is not available', regardless of what date I search :que

Thats awful, they should offer an alternative flight for the same price surely :( Wonder how it is going to affect people who are already out there who have return flights booked to Manchester

Decided to get a refund from the original flight and have booked with Jewel in the Crown (Dorm house - because we already have accommodation sorted).

Had to pay £140 more each but decided to use a travel agent rather than flight only with everything that's going on with airlines and travel companies, and the luck I seem to be getting at the moment!

It leaves a nasty taste but there's no point in letting it get to you. This is a holiday - remember? :sun2

There are a lot worse things that could happen. I hate whingers and I'm not going to become one (well OK, a bit of one is permissible!). Put up or shut - either pay or go somewhere else but if I went somewhere else, I'd spend the whole time wishing I was in Goa. So there we are...Goa it is, until the next phone call from the travel company...... :smokin

Hi Roma, we have booked a flight Jewel in the Crown dormhouse too for November 21st. Another thread directed me to have a look at the Manchester airport site the other day - from that it looks like Jewel in the Crown havent confirmed their flights Monarch/Manchester to Goa as yet.
Probably worrying about nothing but worrying non the less. What with the visa and this :que

Hi Roxey - Perhaps all the people bounced off the Friday flights will make the remaining flights more viable.

Just looking for the bright side, really. :que

Hi Miccie
Just put our Feb holiday in first choice for Goa and it is still available
must have been a glitch in the system

Yes, it was probably just a hitch with my pc at work this afternoon, I am getting results now. Perhaps my work pc is set up so I can't book any holidays! :rofl

Hi all,
We had our flights brought forward by 4 days, which isn`t too bad other than the new flight times are worse. But friends of ours were coming out to meet us for our second week now we only have 3 days with them which is a shame. :(

Having kept up with the thread about Monarch and cancelling the Friday flights from Manchester, I contacted the company we have booked flights with to query this (would they have got in touch with me - and when...?)
The response is ''yes they have'', and they will now get in touch with the tour operator to find suitable alternatives and get back to me asap.
We are not flying until March so it does give us some time to pick and choose options thrown at us, but I am now dreading the fact I will have to re-book dates with work and also get in touch with the hotel we have booked + any extra costs they are going to add on - which in my opinion should not happen.
If anyone can get info as to why Monarch have done this please post on here, as I am aware flights through out March on Fridays have always been full.
Can anyone also answer what happens if I do not agree to the alternatives they have found - Surely we should get all of our deposit back ?
Nightmare... absolute nightmare.. but keep smiling peeps - we will be in Goa 2009 !!

I think you will find they have to reimburse you if they have made the changes and you don't want to accept them. This has happened to us in the past.

We usually travel with First Choice, but managed to find a Manos holiday, flying with Monarch on Sunday 7th December for around £1300 less, so though for that price we will put up with Monarch.

Received a letter a while later saying that due to the My Travel / Thomas Cook merger our flight was cancelled and we were being moved to a TCX flight on the Saturday.

So we got our cheap holiday, and then got a better plane, with better flight times, and weren't asked to pay a penny more.

The underlining problem this season,is the lack of customers.Monarch's flight bookings are well down this season mainly due to the fact that,Goa get's many repeat bookings (40%) and people who have used this airline hate it.Jewel in the Crown who use Monarch say there bookings are down by 50% compared to last year and new bookings are virtualy at a standstill. So don't be surprised if there are more changes.
