nivsy,
Some of the aircraft (763's) used across the pond have seat back IFE installed. The US-internal aircraft don't.
Darren
Darren, Thanks - thats what I was worried about - the "some"!!
I assume that bags need to be picked up and then re checked (been a couple of years since last in states) and ofcourse the fun of USA security and immigration etc.

Have just booked a holiday which means returning to the U.K. with United. (the outward flight is with Continental). The return flight uses a Boeing 777. Having checked with United website I find that the seating configuration, even in the upgraded economy is
2-5-2 , ( 9 seats per row.) This brings unpleasant memories of a B.A. flight several years ago with 9 seats per row on a 777. The most uncomfortable flight I have had. Very narrow seats. We have upgraded for extra legroom but full upgrade wasn't available. Have I read the website correctly? Has anyone any information that may help me sleep soundly tonight? Please take pity and reassure me!! Please tell me I will be comfortable!
Some airlines are operating 10 abreast on the 777. 9 abreast is pretty standard in economy on the 777.
Darren
Thank you Darren for your usual rapid response. I am ,of course, an idiot! Looking back the BA flight wasn't 9 seats per row, it was 10! ( 3-4-3 , like a B747) . Continental's 777 was 3-3-3 , and was very comfortable. Sorry for wasting your time, but I will be able to sleep tonight!
We have flown with United on a B777 with 2-5-2. The 2 seats at the side are great as you don't have a random third person to annoy if you need to get up.
The economy plus (extra legroom) seats are not too bad allowing around an extra 6 inches and within a seperate cabin.
The rest of the service is the same as in economy - ie medium to poor. Having said that I do use them quite a lot as they tend to be quite competitive on price - even if it is 6 dollars a beer! If sitting towards the rear no gaurantee of food choice - not as if the choice is much good anyway in my opinion.

Disregard my last post - got my carriers mixed up...2-5-2 it is throughout...sorry!
Thank you Nivsy and Luci for your comments. The seats we have booked are the economy plus seats in the separate cabin. We felt the same as you that 2 seats on their own with nobody else to annoy us was just fine. Do either of you know if the arm rests fold up in these seats and if the trays are in the armrests or fold down from the seat in front? Both my son and myself, like the B777 are wide -bodied! Thanks once again. Chrissfhl
As far as I understand it, the seats are the same as economy, just that they have up to 6" extra legroom so the armrests and tray tables would be the same.

Checked in on lilne with United when we checked out of the hotel. Although we were nearly put as citizens of Afghanistan the process was easy and we printed out Boarding Passes which WERE boarding passes and which we could actually use. (Continental's boarding passes are NOT boarding passes). We got boarding passes for all 3 legs of the journey. Luggage check-in took about 5 minutes for both of us and the luggage was taken all the way to Manchester. We didn't have to pick up and recheck anywhere (unlike Continental) . We booked extra leg room seats for Tampa-Washington and Washington to Heathrow for a very reasonable price. It was well worth it. The cabin crew were excellent. My diabetic main meal on the main leg on the B777 was awful. I still don't know what it was but I will be having normal next time. The seat arm rests did go up and we were vey comfortable. The last leg was Heathrow to Manchester (United ,but operated by BMI) . Some problems here and United didn'twant to know . BMI were totally in the dark as to what was happening in their own airline , as were Servisair. Both couldn't tell us what gate we were to go to and with only 15 minutes to go! Maybe it was Heathrow itself. Passenger power solved the problem eventually when a few of us popped our heads round a gate's closed door and asked the hidden gate clerk if this was our gate! In all both of us would fly United again without hesitation. They were equally as good as Continental. Thanks for your previous help and advice. Chrissfhl
I have searched but I am no wiser, so hopefully some kind soul can answer my question.
We are of to the States in April, booked flights back in October 2010. Virgin from Heathrow to Washington, UA from Washington to LV, Virgin home.
Baggage allowance I seemed to recall was 23kg each on all three flights. Virgin hasn't changed but now UA want $25 each bag.
Their website says about revising their baggage policy for flights booked from March 9th 2011, but nothing about flights booked prior to this.
Anyone have any info/ideas on if we will be paying this or not.
Not being tight (spending enough on the holiday anyway, first two-week break in 20 years..... ) just want to make sure we cover all costs
Thanks in advance
I would also read the United T&C's again as the baggage fee *normally* doesn't apply for flights originating outwith the US, but you will have to check.

Can't seem to find United Airlines thread on here, but my question is... My daughter has found flights for £558 from Heathrow to Houston and she has selected 1 child seat as we are about to complete the booking and it is coming up as an Adult (age 18-64) even after putting her date of birth in. Do I still go through with this or could anyone give me any advice? Can't seem to find an airline that will let a 16 year old fly!!!
You would have to book the seat by phone or via a travel agent as the airline will have formalities to go through... who will be meeting her at
her destination etc.
emdia43 - thank you very much she booked with flightsdirect.com and everything went through.
Ooooooo pink!!
ok, getting back to what I want saying, do you have to pay for hold luggage at check in with United Airlines or is it included with the flight? Also is it necesscary that my daughter prints off her confirmation or could she just hand in her passport at check in and be good to go?
