As I understand it the 30kgs is made up of 23kgs in the hold and 7kgs hand luggage for premier and 20kgs in the hold and 5 kgs hand luggage for economy. I know I have read this somewhere, but do you think I can find it right now. We too, have our tickets, stating 30kgs luggage allowance. I have to agree though, that its not clear on the tickets, but as I travel light anyway it won't make much difference to me.

Our tickets quite clearly state 30kgs hold luggage and then your hand luggage is separate on top of that. I checked the ticket before posting on this thread.
Polly50 I am very surprised your ticket states 30 kgs when you are travelling by economy class. I dont think the holiday companies know what they are doing :rofl

Due to Health & Safety no bag must weigh over 23kg, if it does they will refuse it. Therefore if your hold luggage allowance is 30kg and you intend to take that amount you must spread the allowance over 2 bags. As yet I have not received my tickets. I have been told that they will state 23kg and my letter from FC states that I am allowed an additional 7kg per person on top of the 23kg, thereby taking our allowance to 30kg.

Denham, I both telephoned and wrote to FC.

Gemma & Polly, out of interest, if you log into your booking on line, what does the luggage allowance state there?

Polly50 youre a wee copy cat and kept that one very quiet :rofl I hope you got it for the reduced rate as well ;)

Miccie, we booked with Portland which is part of Thomsons. We cant check the booking online. However, my OH phoned them a few minutes ago and they are saying its 30 kgs in TOTAL which can be packed in any combination. ie. 23 kgs and 7kgs or 25 kgs and 5 kgs.
We are checking our paperwork at present, so will post later on the outcome of that.
If I get away, I dont know how much I am taking yet but the tickets states 30 kgs which to me is hold luggage and I will take hand luggage on top of that. I would like to see them arguing that point if we take it further.
There is virtually no incentives for people to book premium class anymore. In the circumstances I probably wouldnt do it again.

Miccie, just rang customer services at first choice. The person that took the call is going to leave a message for the attention of someone tomorrow to chase it up. She said that there has been some errors, and did say that the 25kg should be honoured because of that, because i have proof. I know that because of health & safety only 23kgs is allowed. But out of interest for 09/10 bookings with first choice & thompson you get 20kgs but you can pay extra and have 25kgs. Think they are contradicting themselves on that one. Have booked with eclipse/ first choice for years without a problem, but next year have booked thomas cook for feb 2010, lets see if they make any errors. Let me know when you get your tickets what kgs they have given you as hold luggage, thanks denham.

Gemma, not copying you decided to upgrade as it was still available and as you know it is someone's birthday come midnight whilst we are flying!!! :cheers Anyway, I did tell you - think your head may have been elsewhere at the time.

Just checked our tickets again. It just says 30kgs, doesn't specify whether that is hold or combination of that and hand luggage, I strongly suspect the latter, as that is what it says on First Choice and Thomson websites. We have booked with Thomson.

Denham, I suspect that my letter put the cat amongst the pigeons, they took so long to answer I think they really had to consider their position. The reply the customer service people have given you is very interesting. It does appear that they contradict themselves a lot. I don't have a problem with keeping my luggage below 23kg per bag, I quite understand that for this is for health & safety reasons, and to be quite honest it's easier on us not to have our bags too heavy. Got to think of the poor porters the other end too! :)

especially when they have to throw them onto the roof of the bus!!!!!!!

While i was out today nichola from first choice rang about my luggage problem. She left a phone number to ring her back , which is an 08 number. Not long since phoned her on my mobile to told there is nobody called nicola who works there. Thats about £10 in 2 calls in last 2 days, and still no answer to my problem. Will wait and see if they write back to me.

Just collected my tickets TOM353 30kg each in Premier Thomson Holidays. It also says (page 33 in your travel documents & personal guide)

Your luggage allowance is shown on your flight ticket in the back of this booklet.
Luggage must be checked into the aircraft hold. If the total weight goes over your allowance we will accept it but you will be charged per killo. Its worth bearing in mind that anything over 32kg (YES 32) goes against the recommended guildlines for airport baggage handlers to lift.
We also offer an additional 5kg for hand luggage- infants --------.You can take one item into the cabin with maximum dimensions 55 x 40 x 20cm.

That must be correct as its in black and white and the latest information I have been given, if not its Thomson problem.

Happy Packing 3 weeks and counting

As far as I knew it was always 32 kgs and thats what British Airways always allowed up until about a year ago.
Ive been on holiday numerous times when my case weights approximiately 25-27 kilos, they still lift it, but just put a big sticker round it saying "Heavy" :D

Hi everyone!

I'm flying with First Choice 27th Nov from London Gatwick....haven't received my tickets yet so thought I'd chase them up...spoke to somebody on customer services who said my tickets hadn't been sent out yet due to an error printed on them saying that the luggage allowance was 20kg. She confirmed for me that the luggage allowance is in fact 25kg for hold and 5kg for hand luggage, so 30kg in total, and a letter had been sent out to all customers confirming this, and that you should bring it with you when you check in at the airport.

Hope that helps!

Hi KitKatKate, did you book economy or upgrade to premier. Denham.

Hi Denham, I booked economy. If I receive this letter they apparently sent out yesterday confirming the luggage allowance I'll let you know what it says! 25kg seems quite alot for economy doesn't it? She definitely said that though...

I think I would be a bit miffed if I knew that people in star class had 25kgs hold luggage and I only had 23kgs for Star Class Premier, however, if they have made a mistake then they should stand by it.
