For those who liked The Kite Runner I've just finished The Septembers of Shiraz by Dalia Sofer which is an interesting & enjoyable book about the period after the fall of the Shah in Persia.
Also the Bookseller of Kabul by Asne Sierestad was a fascinating & very readable insight into the lives of women under the Taliban.
Oh and Shantaram is a great book too! About an escaped Australian convict who lives in Mumbai's slums & gets involved in the gangster underground...............far more readable & enjoyable as that sounds---as that wouldn't normally appeal to me. Very long ....you might get repetitive strain injury holding it on the sunbed!!
Like some of you I enjoy reading about lives in foreign lands amost as much as I enjoy visiting them!

Just returned from Egypt, while I was there, I read :-

2. Broken.
3. Cry silent tears.
4. Amy winehouse autobiography.
5. From rape to restoration.
6. Remember me (Sophie kinsella)
7. Looking back (Josephine cox).
All very good books, the worst was Amy Winehouse, not really my kind of thing.

Hubby read.

2. The Krays.
3. Joe Calazaghe (autobiography)

well obviously i will be reading my lonely planet guide to kenya...
but i am also taking jon gaunts new book this is great britain not rubbish britain..

Some people look for what other people are wearing, some just people watch, but I end up book watching, and what I want to know, is, why does everyone elses book always look more interesting than mine?
