Thanks for the link wizard. I have also read the reviews here. But just wanted a sit more info. We have been to Turkey for the 5 years but just fancied a change. I did research this place before I went to book and the girl in the shop said that she had been here and had a very relaxing holiday. So coupled with the reviewed I had already read we booked. Any other info would be very much appreciated. Di.

thanks percy123, I think I have seen these beers in tesco so will have to sample them next week. I also hope that the euro rate improves, the last we went to Europe we were getting 1.45 to the £ :omg Hopefully when the season starts people will start to come back with some prices so I can estimate the holiday spends this year.

And yes, you guessed it, the name has got a lot to do with the old gold and black. I need a good holiday after the roller coaster seasons we have been having lately, hope this one ends on a good note before the play offs start.

Hi, we are off to Kalamaki in Zante in September :cheers :tup

We need to make our own way from the airport to the Roseland Hotel in Kalamaki. How much should we expect to pay for a taxi from the airport to Kalamaki? I've spotted a couple of taxi places that let you pre-book online and someone meets you etc, one of them - zantetransfers.com - says 36.50 euro for a return trip...Would we be better just hailing a taxi at the airport when we land or going with something like that? Thanks

Dont bother prebooking there are lots of taxis outside of the airport, we were in the bitzaro grande last summer right next to where you are staying lovely place and we just pcked up a taxi outside of the airport ,loads about was cheap enough cant remember exactly how much probably only about 10-12 euros, its only a few minutes to kalamaki and all of the fares are up on a board as at most greek airports so you know before you get in the taxi any more questions about it just ask. Thanks for that :tup We thought 36.50 euro return was maybe a bit much for 10-15 min each way, but weren't quite sure what kind of price a normal taxi would be. We'll probably just flag one down then if it's only about that much. Thanks for letting us know about the price boards too, we'll look out for those to check and then agree a price when we get in. Ta

Hi, we're going to Zante in September but have just booked a return flight and a hotel rather than a package holiday. Last year when we went to Rhodes there were free maps of the island and Rhodes Town at the airport. Is this the same for Zante, or where would we be best getting a map of Kalamaki from? Because we're not going to have a rep we could do with a street map to suss out where things are. Thanks

Local shops and supermarkets should have maps of the island, as well as car hire places. I don't know about the airport, bur I don't think you'll be stuck for getting a map when you get there. I can't see that you'll really need a map of Kalamaki itself, it's not particularly big. Here's a link to a small map anyway

Having been to Zante many times, you can get maps from the airport, you wont need a map of Kalamaki its not that big, you can drive round the island in a few hours which i have done many times.

If your hiring a car i recommend going to a place called Kampi to see the sun set, if you like beaches i recommend Keri, lots of small beaches there and usually only have a few people on them at a time.

Anything else i can help with just ask.

Hi Dr Shnuggles....

I couldn't find much on Karros studios / apartments....
Did you mean Karras http://www.zantekarras.gr/

Its located here in Laganas.

Google Maps Laganas Karras

There's a storm drain just to the right of the hotels that leads down to the sea. It's freshwater and normally has water in it all year so depending on how recent Laganas has rainfall will reflect in the amount of Mosquito's present in the area. Not a massive problem as you are so close to the seafront and being early May but take care if you react to bites and use repellents etc.

I've found May to have a very good mix of holidaymakers in Laganas but, if you find it too loud Kalamaki is just a short ride away in a Taxi..

I wonder if anyone can tell me about the buses on Zante. I'm going with a group of 26 on 1st May to stay at Hotel Contessina in Tsilivi. We're members of a walking club and some of us hope to do a few walks on the island. We have the Sunflower walks book, but the walks are all located on the west and south of the island. Some of the places we want to get to are served by buses (I think!) - what do you reckon our chances are of a group of maybe 15 or 20 people on a public bus?

The other problem is to find out bus times before we get there. KTEL are still showing their winter schedule on the web site. Are they likely to run a reasonable summer schedule on 1st week in May?

Our other options are to travel by taxis (expensive), or hire a bus or couple of minibuses. So far I've drawn a blank with the latter. KTEL say they can't help, and two tour operators have failed to reply to emails - I may try ringing next week.

I may be worrying about nothing, it may all work out fine when we get there. But as I'm organising our days out I had hoped to get things sorted before we go.

Hi
I think the only thing you can hope to do is to keep looking at the KTEL and see if it changes before you go.

We were in Tsilivi last week of May/first week of June last year and the timetable changed whilst we were there - more buses daily.
The timetable before then was a bit sparse.
I'd doubt that you'd get west and south of Zante (and back) on local buses that early in the season.
We fancied going to Macherado to see the church of Agia Mavra but the buses were not that great even after the timetable change.

At least staying at the Contessina, you're towards the beginning of the route into Zante Town. The bus stop is outside the Mediterranee Hotel, just a short walk from your hotel.

Stayed at this hotel twice last year . Great hotel staff brilliant cant do enough for you . Rooms lovely and spacious . About 5 - 10 mins walk to beach . Near all amenities . We stayed half board and ate at the Olive Garden restaurant which is adjoining the hotel . Food was lovely enjoyed every meal . Hoping to go back to the Plaza Pallas for a week later on in the year .
