I say bring the Yanks in. There was a programme on sky a few weeks ago about ship salvage, start chopping from the top take some weight off her float her off. Easy.... ;)

Got back today and there is nothing happening to it at all.
There are a couple of people living on it with a dinghy and a rope to the beach for supplies etc, but no work at all going on.

I'm afraid there's not much weight topside on her, she'll certainly never float off. the two options left is cut her up and scrap her where she is, and ruin the beach even more than at present, or just do nothing, the monsoon will gradually break her up, and ruin the beach more than at present. I'm afraid the Indian & Goan mindsett will favour the do nothing course of action,as they invariabley do. Sad really, all those years ago when she finished up on the beach, it would have been the simplest of salvage jobs, now it's just a disaster unfolding. Alan

Sure to be a huge effect on Candolim to Calangute and not just 100 yards. How can a government be so blinkered, they know that the beaches have great pulling power Who would want to enter the water once this hulk starts breaking up...... madness.

I wouldn't like to have booked a holiday in Candolim once this starts breaking up. But when will it start.... time bomb for tourism.

Why don't the Goan government just admit that they don't really care. That's the impression that is now given.

Once the 'Princess' breaks up we will hear nothing but hard luck stories.

Seems to me that the biggest disaster in Goa is the Government themselves.

Exactly. What used to be a vibrant part of the beach is now in some places virtually impassable.Another shameful episode in Goan politics(read bribery, corruption)

The only person smiling in this fiasco will be the mine owner whe had the ship under charter, and who has blocked all salvage attempts through the years. With the corruption in Goa he's been able to stop all efforts until we've arrived at the position now where floating her off is no longer an option, and she will either be cut up there, or simply abandoned to the monsoon to do the work. Either way it's the end of Sinquerm beach. It could only happen in Goa. Alan

And that same mine owner is now a member of the Goan Parliament...........what a surprise!

Seems they are as corrupt as our lot then.

Be in trouble if we name names.Anyway I do not know all 600 plus of their names.

May as well start the countdown to the total destruction of Sinquerim. I have fond memories of the way this was 9 years ago. A really beautiful part of Goa will soon be gone forever.

Seems like most of Goa will 'destruct' in some way if no one takes action. Very sad.

I agree with you Neil.

When we were there 9 years ago, it was really beautiful around there.

I wonder if something would have been done sooner about the River Princess if the holidaymakers had voted with their feet and had stayed away.

this thread is interesting as it shows all the "might be taking action" posts over the years. Look at the first one.
