Hi all, first time poster here - this site is a great source of info, many thanks to all who contribute.
I'm confused on seating policy, though. A number of people have said here that seats on Thomson are allocated the day beforehand, and that therefore no matter when you check-in you can be split up. I've also seen it said on here that you can pay to select exact seats.
However, Thomson's website doesn't seem to offer any facility to select seats (or even to manage your booking), and seems to offer only a telephone number to call to pay for 'seats together' - which may not actually be together at all, but behind each other or across an aisle (unbelievably you pay extra to be split up like this!!!).
Furthermore, the Thomson's website says that "All our customers are assigned a seat at check-in on a first come first served basis" (I tried to post the link, but am not allowed).
Can anyone give a definitive answer? We (a couple) are flying in PE, and I understand the config is 2-3-2 - I don't imagine that many groups will neatly fit into a 3, and I'm keen to make sure we snag a 2 to ourselves. If we can select exact seats, then I would like to do so. However, if it is the case that it is done first-come, first-served on check-in, then I'm relaxed, as we are staying in an airport hotel the night before, and can therefore check-in before almost everyone else.
If it makes a difference, we are flying LGW-AUA in PE on 27/5, booked through First Choice.
Thanks
Al
Just looking for some advice on flying with Thomson, I booked flights only on-line and wondered if anyone knew;
What kind of plane it would be,
What the in-flight entertainment is,
Vegan meals (what do they consist of),
Seat allocation (how can we make sure we sit together),
and finally how can we ensure a window seat.

It's rather complicated because of the merger so I won't give you the history. Thomsonfly used to offer 'select your seat' online. However, with the amalgamation of the aircraft fleets (First Choice / Thomsonfly) under the merger, 'select your seat' both online and over the phone was suspended. Select your seat over the phone was introduced for the summer 2009 season and now that aircraft movements are know, I suspect they'll bring back the online facility in the near future to take pressure off the call centre. You can select your seat over the phone 4 weeks prior to your departure date. As well as select your seat, you have 'pre-bookable' seats which although sounds the same, isn't. Pre-boookable (seating together) means your seats are pre-assigned to make sure your party is together, although this doesn't guarantee you won't be across and isle or one behind the other. More often than not, you'll be in adjancent seats. It's because of the nature of aircraft seating it can't be guaranteed. Most travel as couples or families of 4. When most of their aircraft have seats in 3's, it's inevitable that some will be across an isle or one behind the other. That's one of the reasons TOM allocated seating the day before; to accomodate everyone best they can and speed check-in a little. I hope all that makes sense as it is little complicated!
As a premium customer, the premium cabin on the 767's are configured 2-3-2. I know the website says seating is assigned at check-in on a first come first served basis, but that needs updating as the seating is allocated as above. There are several parts of the website that need updating. If you want peace of mind, give Thomson Airways a call and you can select your seats for £5 each per flight. If you let us have your flight details, we can tell you which premium configuration you'll be flying on, ie 31 seats of 63. You'll find more aircraft information on our What Aircraft? thread.

TOM7712/3 is set to be operated on a Boeing 757-200
Seating is 3-3
As mentioned previously in the thread you can prebook you seats before you fly but everytime I have flown with Thomson we have never had a problem with being split up.
The IFE will not be available till a month before but will be provided by overhead screens.
Usually with it being 3-3 you will get a window seat if there is say 4 passengers they usually seat you ABC D but you can always prebook one.
Im sure someone else on the forum can fill you in with the information I missed.

Welcome onboard
Z.J.C has provided most of the information you're looking for
All I would add is you'll find further aircraft information on our What Aircraft? thread. The IFE listing for your flight will be September / October and will be released towards the end of August. Keep a lookout here and BY-TOM-AMM-FCA normally posts it for us.

Thanks Darren, much appreciated! I'll give them a call tomorrow I think.
We are going with Thomson did you know if you going to a platinum Hotel you get 25% of airport hotels and car parking we saved £63.00 by booking Hotel & Parking with Thomsons.
Thanks for all of the speedy replies, I feel more knowledgeable now.
I'll keep my eye on the forum for the IFE to see what gems turn up for our flight, and to see if anyone knows what the Vegan meal comprises of.
Cheers

Thanks Snowy - yes that was the basis of my question - we are flying down the night before, staying in the Hilton, and intend to check-in the night before, and so I wouldn't therefore have been bothered about seating if it was allocated on a first-come, first-served basis as per the website.
LGW-AUA-LGW (TOM082/3) are operated by a former First Choice Boeing 767-300/ER so you'll have the larger premium cabin with 63 seats.

I am flying Birmingham jamaica Tuesday 19th......yipee.....but in changing my flight from Mexico i could not get premium seating...I am sure that you have mentioned that you can upgrade you TV package for £5 when on board.....can you confirm this and do they offer it or do i have to request it
That's correct. Once you've taken off, the cabin crew will make an announce about the flight and offer the premium IFE upgrade. They'll come through the cabin and activate it using a swipe card for those that wish to upgrade. You indicate that you want it and they'll sort it for you. It only takes a few seconds. It's £5 per person per flight.
Darren
Thanks..its a long flight and with two kids they will need to be kept busy some how..at least it is not as long as the mexico flight which had to go via manchester....is there a list of the available games listed somewhere?
The standard IFE package is pretty good, it's just you get the blockbuster films and extra games with the premium upgrade. Games include (* indicates premium / upgrade required);
*Zuma
*Ultraball
*Who wants to be a millionaire
*Bejeweled Deluxe
Solitaire
Disney Classic Game
Battleship
Insaniquarium Deluxe
Scrambledash

The 757 with RR engines is my favorite plane, lovely push in the back on takeoff esp at short runways. I can't imagine what it would be like at Skiathos airport.
EMA-CFU-EMA (TOM7108/9) are indeed operated by a Boeing 757-200. I can't give you the registration, although it should be one of the Thomsonfly ones (G-BYAx).

MAN-SFB-MAN (TOM112/3) are operated by a Former Tomsonfly Boeing 767-304/ER. You'll find the May / June IFE listing here. It's up to you whether you want to upgrade the IFE to premium or not, there's no pressure. You'll get the following games:
