The tour ops want to sell more 2009 holidays before releasing their brochures, I think another factor is the mergers, thomas cook and thomson have a monoply between them and with no air tours or first choice who would release holidays for sell early then thomas cook and thomson had to follow suit. It wouldn't surprise if thomas cook and thomson had a agreement to release holidays for sale at the same time.
Thomas cook has done all of its currency hedging now but they are still trying agree prices with hotels chains to lessen the impact of the weak pound, I heard holidays will increase by 2% to 3% for 2010 compared to 2009. They can't up the prices to much because next year will be a difficult trading year as less people spend on holidays with the recession.
If last year they didn't sell out £2000 holidays then they have no chance if they want to charge £2300 for next year!
but i think they have to bring prices down , especially during school holidays . how can they expect to sell holidays with price increases , its common sense that bring prices down and you will sell a lot more , than trying to reduce last minute prices just to fill empty seats on a plane . i really want to start pricing up for next year , but not getting any where with TA's
Snap Lindy. All research into next summer's holiday is on stop with me as I need prices to compare. It's sooo frustrating not being able to decide where to go as it will depend on prices
same here can't research holidays neither.I just hope there is no big rises in prices or might have to change destination which I don't want to do
asked if they could do some pricing for next year , to be told that brochures are being released 02/07.
they are taking people's details to let them know when brochures are in , but the assistant said they are going top be very busy as people are ready to start booking for next summer . If wanting to go long haul then yes you are able to book now .
Well just spoken to a sales advisor from Thomsons in the metrocentre and was told brochures for europe are out the first week in june,I asked are you sure about this and she was quite positive about it , so we will see what happens in the first week of june then
Well, TBH I think us Hters know far more than the ordinary TA. Helen and I called in to a small independent TA today and asked when would summer 2010 brochures be out. We said that we knew long haul were available but we wanted Turkey and Greece. We were expecting her to say 'July' as most on here have said. She replied that she already had some out the back and so she went to see what she had. On her return she told us that the long haul are out but she seemed to remember someone saying something that the rest won't be out until August I told Helen when the woman went to check that we probably knew more than her. I think she just picked August out of thin air. At least I hope she wasn't right, it's bad enough waiting until July.
Yes your right I think we do know more than them and i'm hoping it won't be too long for them to come out like you say it's bad enough waiting until july.
I did say to the TA are you sure as ive been told different dates and she said yes not sure on the exact date but they will be out first week in june
Apparently the travel trade is slow, & they want to book as many winter holidays as possible before bringing out the summer ones. We were told it was a "marketing excercise, which may or may not work"
First of all T/O's wanted more summer 2009 holidays sold, now they want to sell more 2009/2010 winter holidays. At this rate they won't release holidays for sale until september
I think it's a daft ploy. If I go in to the TA to book a summer 2010 holiday, I'm not going to book a winter one instead because they are the only ones on sale at the time. I'm obviously just going to wait until the summer ones come out. Am I missing something here
Quite agree Shirley. My most important holiday is the summer one & I'll wait until the brochures come out before booking.
In my local shopping centre, thomas cook now have up signs:
once inside and you ask , they tell you that brochures and holidays are not available until July , but you can leave your details and they will let you know when the brochures are in store
I don't know if Hays travel is nationwide or just in the north east but just though I would let people know that they can now price holidays up.
Also the first choice hypermarket at team valley told me today that the brochures are released on the 02/07.But the lady said if other TO release there brochures before the 02/07 no doubt they will all follow suit
Most of the schools finish end June, and families of away on holiday, and up here in glasgow, this would also be the start of the Glasgow fair holidays
So for a family to be away on holiday, and looking for free child places, and for none to be available when they come back, dose not suit them
And if they release them end of June, think most people will be concentrating on getting things ready for there summer holidays, and wouldnt be looking to book for 2010
Well just an update about Hays, apparently the prices are showing up on there system but they can't cost it for me as it's not allowing them to ,it shows the flights for next summer and accommodation but they simply can't cost it thats what I have just been told when they rang me back
Its a bit of a worry when a leading travel agent doesn't know whats going on in their own Industry. Hardly gives you faith in them if they dont even know what is and isn't on sale.
Exactly. It seems to be the same story. Not even the TA's know what's going on. IMO I think this is going to backfire on them!
