Just returned from Island Escape yesterday, smoking areas are (1) both sides of deck 8 though most people used starboard side (2) all of Sailaway Bar on deck 11,an outdoor bar (3) Port side of Mirage Bar along pool deck.
There was that many people smoking on Deck 8 during the evening temporary bar was set up.
The main talk amongst the smokers was dissapointment because they booked when it was Island Cruises + thier policy was more relaxed than now,Thomsons changed that.
This was my 2nd cruise on I/E first in June,i only booked this one 3 weeks ago because of price compared with beach holidays + entertainment .
I am on again in November, booked last year with a balcony cabin, after looking at one not sure it will be worth it.
In outside on deck 9 in June + Deck 8 inside last week + both a bit sad looking, everyone i spoke to was happy with cruise (Entertainment/Food etc) but hated the cabins + vibration in bed unbelievable.
If you are looking for a stylish cruise ie dressing up,waiter service etc this is not for you.
It is as advertised a informal cruise+ informal it is
horts/t shirt/trainers not unusual in bars in evening.A/I not a patch on Thomsons ships.

Smoking allowed in one half of show lounge also the back of the Viking lounge. Also starboard side of most decks.

Just back from the Star Princess. Smoking was allowed in all cabins and on all balconies, though you do have to ask for the ashtrays, or just take one from another smoking area. There were designated smoking areas on the Lido Deck by the pool and on one side of the outside bar on the deck above. Also smoking was allowed on the port side of the ship on all open decks, with "Smoking Station" ashtrays attached to the railings. Shooters Bar is smoking, and the Casino is smoking too, though there were a few nights when it became no smoking.
