Yes its horrible your husband being in hospital but its the best place for him so dont be wishing him home although i do understand.
I believe Turkish hospitals have a good track record, better than home at present with staff shortages etc, hope all goes well keep us updated, take care
he is home now, but still really ill
What you have to watch is any existing illness which has gone undetected ,being worsened by something he picked up on holiday.I would have thought they would have found out by now if it was anything really serious .Chin up .
thats what im beginning to wonder, hopefully these blood tests next week might reveal more, if not hes got to see a gastric specialist
Hope things pick up for you soon
I remember you saying you had booked to go back to Turkey in October - will he be well enough to go do you think?
Just a thought - if he is well enough to go on holiday in October, will your insurance Company give you the same cover due to what they call notifying them of pre-existing illnesses? As a seasoned traveller, I expect you have checked for that but some people don't realise the implications if they don't.
We all send our love.x
I know he's still in some pain Karen but Is Oz not eating either or is he eating and everythings going through him .
lyn x
yes we are supposed to be going back in 5 wks this was booked before he took ill, so im hoping he can still go and we know we have to ring insurance as they told us this
its such a nightmare, knowing exactly whats caused this, drs here are saying they dont think its his appendix, but a severe bowel infection thats left him with irritable bowels , yet turkish drs say it was grrr
my friend had the same symptoms when she was in eygpt, she was very poorly, and came home, had camera up the bum, down the throat, lots of tests, diagnosed as food poisoning, and now irritable bowel...the dietician was wonderful though in finding foods she was tolerant too.....
i hope it works out soon, and he carries on with his recovery......thinking of you both
all the dr said yesterday was avoid spicy food and alcohol and eat plenty of pasta, if these blood tests come back normal shes then going to send him to see a gastric specialist, i will tell him to ask on tues when he has blood tests done about dietician. gosh when he took ill 2 mths ago didnt expect it to last this long
he going back to drs next week so he will ask about a dietician then. we are supposed to be going to turkey in 3 wks time
We did this with my mum who was going to have to wait over a year for an appointment for a lump that was growing on her head . Saw this NHS specialist during his surgery at our local Bupa hospital , paid £50 for him to set our minds at rest and he brought her NHS appointment forward to a much more realistic 4/5 week wait .

ozs mam suggested that lyn, but i didnt know where to start looking for a private appointment, ill get him to ask dr when he goes back next along with mentioning a dietician, im wondering now whether it could be an ulcer, or whether its this irritable bowel still , hes lost about 4 stone now grr, about 2 since this illness started, he had lost 2 earlier on in the year cutting out rubbish, so that was deliberate, but the other 2 stone has made him look so thin
Karen I think your doctors receptionist would be a good place to start as I believe even for a private appointment you would need a referal letter from your doctor although I'm no expert by any means .
Going back to your hubbies symptoms, have you considered he may be ceoliac?,sorry if I've spelt it wrong It's just a thought as you mentioned he was eating a lot of pasta, wholewheat pasta would be extremely bad for him if this was the case. It's just a thought as his symptoms could very well tie in with this. Hope it's sorted and he's completely recovered very soon, take care
If you ring your local hospital (the one that he is being referred to) and ask to speak to the consulant's secretary she will be able to give you the telphone number of the clinic where he does his private work. They in turn will be able to tell you the amount it would cost for an initial consultantation, how long you would need to wait to be seen (usually within 3 weeks) and whether you would need a letter of referral from your GP (this is not always necesary but the GP receptionist should be able to give you a copy of the referral letter they have sent to the NHS hospital). I work for the NHS and this is how many of the consultants at my hospital work. Hope you get it sorted soon. Best wishes Di.
thanks for all your replies, ive rang surgery today and asked to see the senior dr, was told earliest appointment is next week so i put my foot down explained the situation and suddenly she got me an appointment for tomorrow . i think ill go with him as hes useless at sticking up for himself and just accepting anything they say and not ask questions etc lol , its dragging on too long now , so im going to ask them as much questions as i can
Good Luck Karen, I hope you manage to get some decent information out of them about what is going on. I think you are doing the right thing going with him. Seems a huge weight loss in a short space of time even though the first two stones were intentional.
got details of private hospital and rang, the consultation alone is £150 grrr which is a bit more than i expected , so will need to have a chat to hubby
