My mum needs an emergency visa to go to india as her mother is severly ill! we live in leicester so its quite hard travelling to either london or birmingham...
Anyone have any ideas or suggestions as to what i should do?
If there are any forms to fill in can you please send me the link?

Thanks a lot!

I would guess the only way to get an emergency visa would be to apply in person at one of the sites.

If we did have to do i presume we would go bham - i've heard you have to queue for hours on end at times?

i read online that i would need to get a letter from the hospital stating the condition of my grandma?

Theres no chance i can do it over the phone is there?

thanks

First of all i am sorry to here your sad news.
I just had alook on the HCI site and this is what it says.
High commission of India considers certain emergency situations such as critical illness of family members for processing visa in an emergency.
Relevant proof of the emergency e.g. letter off doctor or hospital explaining the critical illness is required by the HCI in order to consider the visa catagory.
Documents should be first presented to any of the Indian Visa Application Centres and the staff will accordingly guide you on the procedure hereafter.
Granting of an Emergency Visa is at the discretion of the HCI London and cannot be guaranteed.
So it looks like there is no way you can do this over the phone.

discretion of the HCI London

does that mean we have to go london, or can it be done at the bham office?
Thanks for helping

No it can be done at the Birmingham office.
We where there a couple of weeks ago ( due to the new 2 month rule)
an Indian couple where in similar circumstance to yourselves , we all arrived at 0700hrs , doors opened at 0900 hrs , we where out by 1130hrs and they where still waiting when we left .
They wont make things easy for you no matter what the situation is.
I dont know what your mothers cicumstances are, but i should imagine if she has a British passport it will have to have 6 months left on it and she will have to take 2 recent photographs and there will be a charge, but at least they were taking cash payments when we were there.
I hope all goes well for you.

We went to Manchester last wednesday for our visas and I have just looked at the status of mine and it says,
'Additional documents/passport received on the 23/2 for the resubmission. Application under process. Please bear in mind the processing times could differ for such cases. :yikes Has anybody had this situation before, or am I just thick and don't understand what it means :think

I have just got in from work and saw that the answerphone was flashing, it was a message from Airflights asking me to give them a ring regarding Sundays flight :yikes
I rang back and eventually spoke to somebody and was asked was I aware of the new 2 month rule ( we arrived back with same airline mid January)
Now obviously we knew and had sorted this out ouselves but they dont give much of a timescale for anyone who might not know about this rule.
Its ok for all of us on HT or any other forums because we all help each other out but it just got me thinking about people who do not use the internet etc.
I could just imagine oh and myself turning up at the airport with our cases having left the Airport hotel and looking forward to our holiday to Goa only to be turned away.
I would go BALLISTIC !! :rage :argue
Has anyone heard of this happening? it would be my worst nightmare.

I would guess that from this part
'Additional documents/passport received on the 23/2 for the resubmission
that you had applied for the visa earlier and then they requested extra documents to support your application, which you have since sent and they received them today ready for process :que

Thanks Tony, thats just it I haven't had to resubmit anything, I just went to longsight Manchester and did the 2 visas there :think

Does anyone know anything regarding obtaining a new visa within a month of the old one expiring?

I did see it mentioned earlier in the thread but can't see anything on the vfs site, it only mentions he reentry situation.

I hope to god it's not right as we need a new visa as ours runs out 2 days before we travel.

Please put my mind at rest!

I wouldn't think you would have a problem providing it's been more than 2 months since your last visit to India.

Sorry :whoops
I saw the thread from spaldy on page 4 of this topic but I have looked through all the visa sites and cant find any info about a timespan between visas.
Maybe spaldy can enlighten us :que

I'm almost sure that you can apply for a new visa as soon as the old has run out. Isn't this the case when long termers use to fly to Thailand to renew their 6 month visas!
