At the moment the drop off is in the short stay, you wind your way through the car park to the drop off pick up point - you have to take a ticket from the barrier as you drive in. From there its a short walk to the terminal. Its about a hundred yards walk. At the moment its free.
However they have been cracking on apace with the building works and I reckon the new system will be in place in time for the summer hols so they can make a few quid from us punters. As someone who uses the airport twice a week I'll be walking to and from the roundabout at the entrance on sunny days, probably pay the quid on the rainy days.
The reason for the changes is no vehicles are permitted within a certain distance of the terminal, these are CAA and Government laws. Cardiff is following suit with many other airports in charging for priority drop-off etc, something many other UK airports have been doing for a long time. Once the building work is completed, the walk from the short stay to the terminal is no more than 50m. Unfortunately the car park is on a slightly lower land level and ramp access means walking a bit further rather than steps. not sure if this is going to be addressed, hope so!
Hey guys, flying out of Cardiff to Corfu on 13th August, last time I went to Cardiff airport was in 2005, has it changed much? Last few holidays been flying out of Brizzle, how does it compare to Bristol airport? Much easier getting to Rhoose aswell from Whitchurch
I dont find its changed that much apart from no smoking. I still love to fly from Cardiff.
In terms of traffic Cardiff is no where near Bristol which has millions more passing through its terminal on a yearly basis and Bristol has a vast amount of destinations compared to Cardiff.......so the terminal at Cardiff should be less congested however whether security has adequate lanes open at possible busy times at Cardiff I cannot comment.

Hi. We shall be flying into Cardiff from Turkey. We were wondering if it is possible to buy duty free when we have landed or if it is possible to order duty free on way out to collect on return.
Hi ninelives. I'm afraid you won't be able to buy duty free once you've landed in Cardiff but you may be able to pre-order your duty free for the return flight depending on the airline.
Hi Shirley. Thanks for your reply. I know some airports offer this facility and could not remember if Cardiff did, we have not flown from there for a while.
Cardiff gets new charter flights
Newmarket Holidays will offer flights to three new destinations direct from Cardiff Airport in summer 2011.
The tour operator will operate three direct charter flights to Naples, Verona and Dubrovnik.
"The Italian and Croatian packages have proved extremely successful in other regions and we're delighted to be able to offer these options to South Wales travellers," said Alison Keeble, regional charter director.
Cardiff Airport managing director Patrick Duffy added: "We hope the packages will prove successful so that we can demonstrate that there is demand for new and exciting routes from Cardiff, which will help us convince this operator and others to enhance their programmes and offer even more routes to new destinations in future."

The logic behind the prices for pe-booked parking is a bit iffy....
Those new charges for parking - £81.50 a week are ridiculous. That would mean £163 to park the car for a fortnight's holiday. I've booked a hotel for the night and 2 weeks parking for under £100 (for the summer) so I would imagine more people would do that.
true, but did you notice it's much cheaper if you just turn up and pay on the day? Where's the logic in that?
Ridiculous prices. It's cheaper to book a hotel for the night before and leave your car there.
Stupid prices, they'll just lose business. It will be cheaper for people living in South Wales, the airports main customer base, to use taxis to get to and from the airport.
bmibaby is to pull out of Cardiff at the end of this summer:
not shocked.
Cardiff Bus virtually pulled out a while back. If they don't think the airport is worth serving it gives a clue to how much it's worth to the airlines.
By my reckoning the only scheduled international flights will be Amsterdam, Paris and Dublin. Plus Belfast, Newcastle, various Scottish and of course the Ieuan Air service to Anglesey.

Bummer is all I can think of to say, although I suppose we shouldn't be surprised with the current economic climate. Before long, I think we'll be back to the days when only the rich will be able to afford foreign travel
