i got mine from getmy.com for 2 weeks in cape verde. no medical conditions but had the premier cover. anyone 23 and under in full time education is covered free with the family policy. 2 adults, 1 child and 1 uni student £60.53. cover is with first assist. £5000 cancellation, £10,000,000 emergency/medical cover. think its a good price compared to others for the same cover. they do have a section for medical conditions so might be worth a look.

I get mine from Sainsburys but I don't think it is cheap. That covers independant traveller and also schedule airline failure because we don't always fly charter when we go DIY. I also take the excess waiver so zero excess.
I have made couple of large claims and they are very prompt at settling. I always say you never know how good your insurance company is until you put them to the test.
I have used M&S in the past as well but never claimed from them.

Cheers for the reply.
I did try Sainsburys, but they won't cover me, so M&s or John Lewis are looking like the best option so far.

I am currently trawling through some travel insurance quotes for our trip to New York-Cancun and Las Vegas. I just wanted to check if a standard policy will cover Ice Skating, we plan to do this in New York and most policys cover a huge range of activities, one I have found says it covers 'Ice cricket' but not specifically ice skating!
I am presuming as we will be doing it for a short period of time as part of the holiday it will be fine but I obviously want to be sure. Also can anyone recommend a good company that isnt going to be extortionate I have had quotes ranging from £17 to over £100 for 2 of us!
Thanks

Direct Travel lists the activities they cover on their website.

Be very careful when choosing a policy and don't choose it on price alone, read the policy. I certainly wouldn't trust a £17 for 2 people policy for the US. You need to check the medical cover. Most of the cheap policies have very high excesses. I have read of some that had £300 cover for cash, but the excess was £250.

You will probably need Winter Sports cover for ice skating.

Does Cape Verde islands require Worldwide insurance :que
My friend is going on a cruise that will be in the Islands for 2 days but she only has European insurance.

Yes most policies will class Cape Verde as Worldwide exc US and Canada.

Thanks Luci after much eye squinting small print we have found a policy that covers Ice skating with multitrip.com £62 for a worldwide annual premier policy for both of us. The excesses arent too bad between £75 and £100. It is very odd though because most policys cover a huge list of activitys but not Ice Skating.. I wouldnt even have thought to check if my OH hadnt joked about breaking his leg!!

Stace,I renewed my hubbies insurance with Multitrip.com as it was recommended on Martin Lewis website and underwritten by AXA.
I wonder if anyone has had any dealings with them as they were really cheap compared to many other companies. :que

I saw they were recommended by Martin Lewis and they do seem very reasonable and the cover is very good compared to a lot of others. I havent heard anything negative or positive regarding claims.. no news is good news I guess!

Please don't choose travel insurance by cost alone. You will find that cheaper policies have very high excesses and/or poor cover. Some companies covered the ash cloud while others didn't.

Just because the travel agent's policy is expensive doesn't necessarily make it good.

Unfortunately you need to read through the policy wording to ensure it covers what you need it to cover. You also need to declare any pre-existing medical conditions for everyone travelling, including any recent visits to the GP.

I shall merge this with our existing Travel Insurance topic. You will find information and members' recommendations of companies to try on Page 1.

I have annual European travel insurance, free with my Lloyds tsb bank account. As it doesn't cover Egypt, I've just phoned to upgrade to worldwide for just a single trip over Easter. I was told that I couldn't upgrade to a single trip, only annual. I asked for a quote, and they said £175 - they must be taking the Michael :rofl I told her I could get it much cheaper than that elsewhere and she told me quite abruptly that, that was my choice. I'm now looking for recommendations please - just a single 8 day trip for both hubby & I who are both in our 50's, but are healthy.

I would avoid the travel agents and tour operators insurance. They make a lot of money out of it, so you should be able to get a comparable or better policy cheaper elsewhere.
I agree with luci. Cheaper policies are not always a good bet. Unfortunately you never find out how good they are (or aren't) until you have a problem.

Hi,
After some help here.

Two of my party of four have pre-existing medical conditions and I am really struggling to get a quote to cover us all.
My son has a significant physical (not terminal) disability meaning he is in a powered wheelchair all day. We also have another in the party with high blood pressure.

I am really struggling to get a sensible quote that covers both conditions.

The High blood pressure will be covered, but the only quote I have had what covers my son is over 300 quid for an 11 day cruise!!!

All other insurance quotes I have had state that they will not cover my sons pre-existing condition.

Help!!!
