busdriver,

I'll have a look later once it's squawking. It's not G-OBYD (short haul) if that's what you're wondering as she's operating ex-LGW to Cancun today.

When you go on the Thomson select seat page, are the 'default' seats the seats that you will actually get unless you pay to select your seat? Just checked my booking for my flight to RMF next wednesday, and myself and my girlfriend are apparently across the aisle in the last row on both outbound and return flights, despite there being around 100 open seats available. Is this just a sneaky way for Thomson to 'scare' you into paying extra to choose your seat?

Steview,

Yes, the seats that are indicated on the online seat selection page are the ones that have been allocated to you. If you don't want them, you need to change them. Seats across an isle are still classed as together.

Why would they allocate us the worst seats on the plane when a) it's nowhere near full and b) there are over 100 unselected seats available?

I'm sure that if we turned up at check in we would not be allocated 40C and 40D, and its obviously Thomson trying to claw more money out of the customer.

steview,

Seating is allocated using a best fit computer model taking in to account those that have pre-booked and selected seats prior to check-in, they cant be chosen at check-in as they are already allocated.

But this is only done 24-48 hours prior to departure. So 40C and 40D aren't necessarily our 'allocated' seats.

haymans74,

Your flights are operated by a Boeing 767-300/ER.

Unless anyone Selects those seats then the
Computer has no reason to move you and therefore they will be your allocated seats. Can I jut ask how you know there are over 100 empty seats? If you are going from
The seat map on the Thomson website those are just the seats not pre booked it just indicates 100 people don't want to pay for selected seating.

41c/d are the last row on your aircraft not 40. Also you will been seated towards the rear if you haven't pre booked a meal it's not done to annoy you or force you into paying extra. If you do pay and haven't got meals your selection will be limited to the back cabin plus maybe 4 rows in the middle cabin anyway.

Can someone tell me please what the luggage allowance please is for economy and premier please. I've just picked up my tickets for the Dom Rep for the 15th Dec and it says our luggage allowance is 23kg.
Reply
Unless you have paid for extra luggage allowance (Or you have an upgrade as part of the holiday deal)

Economy is - 20kg hold & 5kg hand luggage
Premium is - 23kg hold & 7kg hand luggage

If your tickets say 23kg then that will be your allowance
Reply
YAY! we must have been given a free upgrade to premium then because it says on the tickets premier and the allowance 23kg. :cheers

Thanks for the reply btw.

I believe that "Premier" is the name of one of Thomson's holiday packages and normally relates to the resort that you have chosen - it doesn't necessarily mean that you are in the Premium cabin. The seat numbers on the tickets will indicate if you are in the Premium cabin or not. Premier resorts have an increased baggage allowance (and I think either first or second drop-off's on the coach). Platinum resorts have taxi transfers etc.

If you re-read what I said, I said that there are over 100 'open' (unselected seats). A quick phone call to Thomson groups revealed that there are at least 30 spare (unbooked) seats on the flight.

Why would Thomson show that it has 'allocated' us decent seats before we've paid? Because then we're not going to pay 30 quid to change them. If it shows that it has allocated us two seats across the aisle at the back it is going to 'scare' customers into paying for better seats.

I'm sure that everybody else who hasn't paid for selected seating will see that they have been 'allocated' those exact same seats if they go onto the select your seat function.

I've never had that experience. I know what you mean, but on my previous 10 flights with them, that has never happened. I like to choose my seats so it doesn't matter what's allocated to me as I'd normally change them anyway, but seating isn't allocated on the basis that you won't like them to force you to pay extra for selected seating.
