Its dropping here showing 2.71T/L to £ sterling.
.
Showing today 2.82T/L to £ in Fethiye Turkey, but this is the bank
rate, not the tourist rate to you.
.
Personally I would get £100 worth over here, & the rest in Turkey.
.
I have personally got mine from the on-line exhanges & also at the
co-optravel in high street.
On-line you have to buy certain amounts to get free delivery.
.
Saga are good, order in afternoon, delivered next morning 9am by
Royal Mail. Brilliant service.
.
Here is the website :-
travelmoneymax.com
.
It is a off shoot of martin lewis money expert.
Just put the currency in, then the amount, For free delivery over certain amount.
With £400 you will get free delivery with Saga.
Any advice just ask.

I am also keeping an eye on the rates and cant decide whether to wait until we get to Turkey in 3 weeks time.
In our main Post Office yesterday the rate was 2.61tl which I questioned as it hasnt been that low for ages.
Dawson and Sanderson who we have found in the past to give the best rate on the high street was 2.75tl but with the bank rate at 2.82tl we might hold on and use our nationwide card even though they now charge for withdrawals.
We will get some lira here if the rate goes above 2.80tl and if not just take sterling to change over there.

Don't forget Jay Trip
Bank rates don't mean you get what it says,
The tourist rates you depend on. :que :que

We have always got the bank rate from Nationwide Flex at the ATMs or the banks.
Now they have introduced a charge we will probably just take sterling and use the local supermarket that we have used since 1992.

Last year got 2.18T/L & 2.19T/L to £ sterling atm in the resort
.
The resort exchange rate was 2.35T/L to £ sterling.
.
Also atm charged £1.50p each withdrawal.
.
This was with a cash passport never again.
Put a £1,000 on it, charged £20 for loading it.
What a rip off.
Beware of getting this card.

On-line exchanges of T/Lira.
Today 4 companies are showing the same rate of 2.737T/l to £ sterling,
Yet for £400 not one are giving the same amount, has I said in a earlier
posting, companies charge delivery, unless you buy their amount for
free delivery. :que
.
Saga -------------£400------------gets you-- 1,094.88T/Lira
.
Travelex-----------£400-----------gets you-- 1,089.54T/Lira
.
No 1 Currency -----£400-----------gets you-- 1,081.14T/Lira
.
M & Spencer-------£400-----------gets you-- 1,081.12T/Lira
.
This shows that Saga give more. :tup

I will wait, unless it goes back up to 2.90tl
I wished we had got some when it was this rate but we were hanging on hoping it would go to 3tl.
I will also ask Nationwide how much they charge as 3 years ago when we were with friends we got 2.53tl from the Nationwide card when they were getting 2.36tl in resort at supermarkets.
We still have quite a bit TL left from last year so will have a few days to see who is giving the best rate.

Just got back from Dalyan last night and the best rate there was 2.76 (no commission). It did not go above 2.80 in the previous 2 weeks. One of the rare occasions when it would have been better to exchange before we got there.

I am going to Antalya next week and i being told not to take Turkish Lira on holiday, most are advising to take Sterling, any one got any advice please?

Hi Micko1962
Get £100 of T/Lira from here in u/k to tide you over.
Then shop around when you get to resort, have a look at what your
hotel is giving, then walk round, sometimes the jewellers are giving the
best rates.
Look at .........travelmoneymax.com
This is a money expert help, just put T/Lira in & a amount of money you
would like to exchange, select check the rates.
Then it will show you companies giving best rates, I have used Saga several
times & Currency club this year.
Order money before 2pm on a afternoon, delivered first class next morning around
9am with Royal Mail,brilliant service.
If its 2.76 in Turkey, check what the amount here, order so much you get free
delivery, like I said Saga very good.
you can order from M & S also, the travel companies are not offering a good rate of
exchange,better rates on-line.

I used my bank card (Santander - formerly Abbey) in Akyarlar (near Turgetreis in the Bodrum area). I withdrew 120 Lira and was charged £1.99.
I think it can vary from bank-to-bank so maybe worth checking with your bank first. Some charge a flat rate whilst some charge a percentage.

Hope this helps.

6 weeks today and my daughter will be on her way for the second time to Marmaris , i have been trying to buy or at least get some decent exchange rates for her to have some lira for when she lands . Chris Ding where are you being quoted those rates from as last week i was told by the banks that it was too early as yet and that they couldn't give me any quotes at all , they did ask if i had any and i said that Tesco were offering 2.68 and would price match within a 5 mile radius and M and S 2.69 , Thomson were only offering 2.62

Hi Llindy, if you re-read Chris' post, he refers to the local rate in Icmeler and not the UK. At present we are getting 2.75 here in Altinkum. If you get your daughter £50 worth in lira, this will get her started. What I will do, is go on a Turkish Forum and try and find out the best place for your daughter to change her money.

Llindy, the advice for your daughter is to go to any Bank and they will give a good rate. Place to avoid is change office next to Migros, it is known to short change people.
