HI Pete
Tala is a tiny little place on the outskirts of Paphos, we had friends of friends who lived there in a lovely villa with a pool with an amazing view as its in a high up area.
There is a small village square with a few small cafes/restaurants where you can sit with a drink or have a meal, almost all locals. You will definately need the car you've rented though as its not within walking distance of anywhere and I don't think there's much in the way of public transport though I could be wrong.
You will need to use the car to get to any beaches or supermarkets, there are some small supermarkets in Paphos but not much in the way of sandy beaches, you may find one suitable on the coast road, Coral Bay is usually very busy though. If you walk through the grounds of the
Venus Beach Hotel you will find a smaller quieter one which is probably closer to Tala, maybe one or two more on that road if you look.
If you travel as far as Limmassol there is a very large supermarket more like the ones we are used to in the UK.
Cyprus is often extremely hot even at this time of year so I'd advise you to have lots of sunblock for your little one.
Hope this has been of some help.

Thanks for the advice. About two thirds of our packing is for Ethan, so there'll be plenty of sunblock!

Hi I live in Trimithousa only minutes from Tala, there is a bus service but very infrequent, so a car will be a must as the coast is about four miles away, as Sanbee posted the village does have some tavernas and an Italian restaurant, best taverna is in Lemba only a short drive towards the coast a map will show you where this is, but Kissonegra also has some good eating places this village is very close to Lemba, Tala is getting a little over developed now but it still has it's charms, as for the weather it is good but not that hot, unless you wish to lie in it of course then it will feel very warm, today at 11am it is 74f in the shade and it is lovely, still a little cooler at nights though so bring a sweater, especially up here in the foothills as Tala is, most certainly cooler at nights, and thank god for this!!

have a great stay,,may bump into you.. :D

Thanks. The villa is actually in Tala Glen, which is (apparently) only a couple of minutes walk from Tala viallage centre.

74f in the shade sounds perfect, though I guess the pool won't have had time to heat up yet, so that'll still be a bit chilly!

but does Cyprus still not have GPRS?

I tried it in February and never got a connection. It always said "data bearer not available". And that was using a Cypriot SIM card :(

On the way in to Paphos there are quite a few big supermarkets, including Orphanides, Papiatonios' (?sp) and Chris's Cash and Carry (this is not like Makro's Cash and Carry so anyone can shop there). Woolworths in Paphos also do a good good selection of food, although the food section is quite small.

You will not find Woolies any more in Pafos, it has changed hands and name, it is now called '' ERMES '' great name don't you think?

HI ALL,
WE'RE FLYING OUT IN JULY FOR THE FIRST TIME AND I HAVE LOADS OF QUESTIONS.
FIRTLY, I AM STAYING AT THE AKTEON TOURIST VILLAGE AND WOULD LOVE TO HEAR ANY FEEDBACK FROM ANYONE WHO HAS STAYED THERE.
ALSO, WHAT ABOUT THE NIGHT LIFE? I KNOW I'LL BE A COUPLE OF MILES FROM THE HARBOUR SO WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THE TRIP INTO TOWN IS NEEDED AND IF SO IS IT WORTH IT? WHAT ARE THE RESTAURANTS, PUBS AND CLUBS LIKE? I AM THINKING ABOUT HIRING A MOPED, SO WHERE CAN I DO THIS AND WHAT PRICES AND DEPOSIT SHOULD I EXPECT TO PAY?
I KNOW, I DONT WANT MUCH DO I! LOL! BUT WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE SOME SOUND ADVICE SO THANX IN ADVANCE

Please do not post with caps lock on in forum Briar

I do know where the Akteon is but never stayed in any hotel or apartments, maybe look at any past posting on this apartment complex..it is as you say around four kilometres from Kato Paphos, and a littler further to a decent beach at Coral Bay, I do not recommend you hire a moped as the driving standards here are abysmal and I have seen many bad accidents with tourist and motor bikes, I am an ex-biker and sold on not long after moving here, life is too valuable....the roads here are also in an awful state so I would if I were you hire a small car for your stay, you will then hopefully get back on that plane in one piece..
Kato Pafos has hundreds of bars and restaurants, tavernas and now even a KFC...at last...
Also the usual burger outlets, you wont starve for sure, last count over seven hundred bars and cafes', there are also several clubs but I am long past those, but I do know where they are...
My advice use taxi's they are cheap, and the local bus runs to Coral Bay from the Tombs of the King's road (down the hill) every twenty minutes, but remember at 11.30pm they stop!..

I am sure you will have a good time, please be careful if you are daft enough to hire a motor bike, they are available everywhere to rent..

Hi the akteon currently holda a CTO official rating of grade A (3-31/2 star)
alittle more info on following link

I agree with Jim provided you have a full licence Hire a Car I read the cypriot paper most days and have the impression that most visitors having serious accidents involve two wheels. if you only have a MC licence and insist then MAKE SHURE ITS ROADWORTHY and WEAR PROTECTIVE CLOTHING AND HELMET the helmet is law and i know you will look a woosey but once off the main roads the surface is mainly loose with a lot of holes and some times small rocks Buses are cheep taxies are reasonable car hire (matiz or similar) can be very cheep if you negociate with the people face to face and again if you don.t use a big name company check it's roadworthy

It's not all doom and gloom you will have a wonderful time if your into history Pafos is the place to be.

Hiya.
I stayed at the Akteon last May. It was fantastic. A lovely 4* hotel/apartments with a huge main pool & 2 small pools. It faces onto the sea. There's a small park for kiddies, shop on site. The apartments are very big with kitchen/dining area and a living room bit with settes/tele. This is aswell as a bedroom/bathroom. Food was nice but very 'european' ie nothing basic & english for fussy eaters. They had a few complaints about this especially from people with children, but Ive heard that this has been changed now.
It is one hotel away from the St Georges hotel (on same street), bus stop/taxi rank is 5 minute walk and there are a few restaurants/bars next to the bus stop. Anymore Q's ask away.

Cheers Paphos Bride,
It sounds great. I was starting to worry because I cant find any reviews of this place anywhere on the net but you have put my mind at ease, have to know though is there a beach nearby and if not, how far will i have to trek.
thanx again, James

One just at the bottom of pool area, walk down the path 2 mins. Its actually joined on the St george hotel, but dont think its private. Only small though. Best bet get the bus to coral bay 10 mins ride for 50p.

cheers bride. :thanks
whats the beach at coral bay like? and are there pubs and restaurants around there? if so i think this will be our main hangout as i am a real beach-bum! and i have heard there aren't many other beaches around. is this correct?
Reply
Coral Bay is the only large beach in this area, and it does not have many bars on the beach itself, you can of course get a beer or three, but at dusk these cafe's close, so you will have to walk uphill to all the bars and restaurants in the plaza area of C/B...the beach has two new cafe's at each end of the tourist beach...there are hundreds of small beaches if you know where to go, but a motor will be a must for these, and to be honest most of us resies keep them to ourselves..but there is enough room usually on C/B so have a great time...I am sure you will..

thanx jim.
once again you have been very helpful. dont expect you to divulge your secrets to the world so i guess coral bay will have to do although it does sound great. i suppose all thats left to do is explore for myself. thanks again.

It does not take a Sherlock Homes to find these private quiet beaches, just a good 4x4 a map and a survival pack...ice cold Keo's in a cool bag!!
