I gathered the following information from people on HT and pasted iit onto a word document to take with me.
hope this is of use to someone
I stayed in a villa in the La exotica area of Nerja which is just off the second roundabout you come to as you come into Nerja off the main road from the airport.
I never went to Burriana beach but spent a lot of time near the Balcon in the evening, there are loads of nice bars and restaurants round there.
Casa Luque was our favourite.

Nerja information
Nerja
Nerja is a beautiful Spanish village, built on a ledge. is home to the third most visited monument in Spain, The Nerja caves. Has spectacular scenery, and lovely sandy coves with golden sands. With no less than 600 bars and restaurants. Nerja makes a great family holiday. Nerja is located approximately 55km east of Malaga. The transfer time from Malaga airport is approximately 1-1½ hrs.
Nestling in the foothills of the mountains the town has a thriving tourist industry. There are many small shops, bars and restaurants, and a wonderful all year round climate and the visitor can hire a horse-drawn carriage to explore the most romantic corners of the town.
The famous 'Balcon de Europa' - a magnificent promenade along the edge of a towering cliff, with sweeping panoramic views of the Mediterranean and the small coves and beaches below, against an awesome backdrop of the imposing mountains
Use Balcon as your focal point.
There are plenty of restaurants in this immediate area and lots of street entertainment. Try heading to the streets past the white church and you will find some lovely restaurants and tapas bars.
There is the main beach - playa Burriana, this can get very busy but has loads of beach front shops, showers, etc. There is another very good beach to the south side of the town.
You Have to go see a Flamenco show in the town ( near the Balcon ) as its a fun night out in its own right or good as a starter for somewhere else, and entrance usually is free or else comes with some free drinks.
Nerja's most spectacular and one of Spain's biggest tourist attractions is the fascinating Cuevas de Nerja' (Caves of Nerja), located just three kilometres from the centre of town. They include archaeological treasures such as 20,000 year old paintings, pre-historic remains and the world's biggest stalactite to stalagmite formation.
Boasting 16 kilometres of beaches and sparkling clear water. All major water sports are available in the area, including scuba diving and sailing.
Restaurants
From the Balcon ( starting point) looking to the sea walk left for about half a mile than inland a little. Lots of real Spanish tapas bars are here frequented mostly by the locals. They are, for want of a better word a bit scruffy but the locals are fine and at some bars a large wine and a tapas is 80c ...not a typo that's about 50p!
"livlier" bars are usually near the balcon.
Good place in town called Langans. A bit more expensive than some but very good!
Try Terrazza La Parra up in San Juan De Capistrano or Bruxelles on Burriana Beach for great local dishes.
Casa Luque(near the balcon de Europe)
A good place to eat just off of burriana beach is 'Ayo's' he is the man who discoverd the caves, they do great paella and do a gorgeous sunday lunch.
For tea i would recomeend 'pinoccio's' my meal was gorgeous there and i would defffinatly say it is worth walking to the end of balcon de europe to see the sea and get a sea breeze.
Formerly The Alhambra, and now transformed into 'The Codfather' via the name 'T-Bar' under the new owners Marilyn and Terry who took over recently. Having spent the last six years running a bar in Ca' n Pastilla in Majorca, they have come to Nerja to open a 'proper' fish and chip restaurant with real cod and real chips. A take-away service is also offered.
favourite places to eat in Nerja are:
Taste Of India - Indian Cusine, fantastic
Cileto Lindo - Mexican on El Barrio
The Mexican is a must
Days out
Take a breathtaking mountain drive through the Sierra Almijara and Tejeda ranges or wander around some of Andalusia's famous 'white villages' such as Frigiliana - a restored Roman town with narrow vehicle-free cobbled streets and Maro - the picturesque village with panoramic views across the sea and a secluded beach.
The historic city of Granada with its famous Alhambra Palace (booking essential), Malaga, Puerto Banus, Mijas, Rhonda, Antequara and the El Torcal National Park are all excellent options for those looking for day trips.

Hi Sparkle, thanks for the info on Capistrano got an idea where it is now. Got confused because on the map we had from our last holiday there is a Capistrana Playa as well as Capistrana village. We still havent booked anything for definate yet but r hoping to go mid September, went in April and the weather was gorgeous so hope its nice September time too. Hope you have a great time im sure you will, check out the Parra bar just up the road from Burriana beach you can sit outside and eat and when we were there they had entertainment on Friday. Have fun keep us posted when you get back.
We've been lucky enough to have holidays in Turkey, Greece and Nerja since the beginning of May this year....... Nerja was absolutely the best of the three.
The apartments at Perla Marina are just fantastic, equipped with everything you could want and in a lovely setting, right on the beach (ok, Playazo isn't the best beach in Nerja ) but sometimes the lack of commercialism is just what you want.
We loved it at the Perla Marina, and in Nerja, and will definatelty return but it's re-awoken our interest in Spain after being stuck in Greece for so long so we will be doing a little bit of investigating.......
Thanks for such a great holiday Nerja
My OH's brother is in Nerja as we speak and has just phoned to tell us it's 42 degrees and due to get hotter....phew, guess I'm just packing a bikini and a sarong then! I'll let you know how the apartments are when we get back, but I don't doubt they will be superb from the conversations we've had with the owners. Thanks for the suggestion for the restaurant, will give it a try. Four days 'til we fly and can't wait! If you want the link to the apartments we're staying at just pm me and I'll send it to you. If we don't speak before, see ya when we get back!
Debbie
Only 6 weeks on saturday to go!!!! Can't wait!!!
Hi Debbie, have a fab holiday im sure you will, im envious especially as the weather has gone cloudy here now! Tell us all about it when you get back. Have a great time.
I was wondering if anybody is just back from Nerja recently. If so what is the waether like there. I will be 5 months pregnant when we go in 2 weeks and was just trying to get an idea of what type of clothing to pack. Trying not to buy lot's of clothes that I will not use again at home... BUT don't want to be waering same ones every day either!!
Any ideas anybody? What is Nerja like? Is it as hilly as people keep saying it is? Any recommendations for places to eat/drink/visit?
Thank You
Ruth
You lucky thing only two weeks to go! I've got to wait to September. Not sure if this will help but my partner and I are in our 30's and we fell in love with Nerja because it is such a lovely resort didnt seem to be as busy and hectic as other places we have been to. When we were there in April i had a little look at the hotel you are staying looks lovely. If you like nice evening strolls taking in the atmosphere head to the Balcon of Europe lots of street cafes and restuarants and just a lovely atmosphere. My partner and I seem to walk for ages in Nerja but nowhere seems that far. Have a lovely time, and im sure you will fall in love with it, and when the baby is born go back for family holidays too. Take care.

Nerja will still be hot. I just take a pashmina folded in my bag, rarely need it.
Yes it is hilly, but it may not affect you depending on where you are staying. There are always ways around everything!
So many good places to eat and drink. If you are on the Balcon, the Bella Roma is fab and always busy.Try the tapas bars, there is an area behind Los Huertos where there are quite a few close to each other.
I am back out there again 24th September. Never tire of the place and try new bars all the time. Spanish restaurants are always nicer than the English owned, but that is just my opinion.
You will have a fab holiday, I have never met anyone who hasn't loved Nerja, something for all ages.
Have a safe trip
Think you will have returned from Nerja when you read this.
I dont doubt you have had a fab time.
We are out there in 7 weeks, we have an apt there, so obviously we love the place.
Please tell me, are you also on the India forum.
If so when are you out in Goa next?
We go in December.
Wonder if anyone can help, been to Nerja lots of times and am hoping to go back again in September, been to travel agents and quite fancy Perla Marina, we have seen it and it looks lovely right on the beach, the package we may choose is b & b. Looked on the reviews and unfortunatly the food didnt rate too highly, reviews were quite old ones. Was wondering if anyone has stayed there recently and if you stay b & b do the rooms have fridges. Any help would be appreciated.
This year the apartments are available through Direct Holidays and next year through Thomas Cook. If you want any more info on the apartments please just ask. Send me a PM if you'd like to see some photo's.
Just discovered this today and thought it may be good for you. On the thompson website you can look at the hotel Villa Flamenca in like a virtual reality video, really good it looks lovely. See what you think.

hi i go to benalmadina every 8 wks ,and at the moment it is in the 40,s so the cooler and lighter the clothing the better ,you wont look out wearing t shirts and shorts ,depends how big the bump is.3 loose dresses would be ample, most of us take loads away ,and live in the same few outfits.anyway there are british shops there to buy clothes in fuengirola main streetsthere,s a dunns store a bit like c and a,s.in benelmadina go to arroyo, british shops there to .plenty of sun cream,is more important recommend p 20 .
I was just wondering if anybody was just back from Nerja? We are off there on Thursday morning. This is our first time to Spain and thus, this resort.. What is the weather like at the moment? Are the nights hot or cold? Do you need a jacket in the evenings?
I have read about all the wonderful places to visit and am looking forward to exploring the region(s).
Any info will be welcom and any tip's/advice too.
Thank You
Ruth
A week on saturday I'll be there as well!!! Can't wait to get to some reliable hot weather!!
Does anyone have any info on the best time/day to go to Maro for the 'FERIA DE LAS MARAVILLAS'.
We know the area pretty well but normally stay in Frigiliana. We are planning a trip for Oct 2006 and want to stay within walking distance of Burriana Beach. Can anyone out there recommend a large Villa or house for 3 families or 3 seperate villas together. Must be able to barbi and must have a pool for use by all.Numbers = 6 adults and 8 children
For those interested in the addresses and directions to some of the bars, take a look here: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/902ad/3f722/5/Nightlife
I've already got some of them marked down. (purely out of interest )
Thats really good Darkisle
