they have advised me to send a year old bank statement. Do i send the original and blank out the relavent account details?

why would you worry about them having your account number?? if you sent them a cheque to pay fo the visa would you blank out the account number then? - when you pass someone a cheque you pass them your account number, sort code and even a copy of your signature...its never been a problem so why do people worry so much now??

Does the return envelope need to be a special delivery one? If not do we just put on the necessary first class stamps?

Definitely needs to be special delivery envelope - but if you are applying for more than one visa, you can just send the one envelope for return.

I made v heavy weather of getting visas - first off returned because the forms which we'd been sent by Cosmos were out of date - lesson here, use the ones on the website. The returned again because I'd sent a personal cheque - lesson two - make sure you send Postal Orders!!! (or actually read the form fully!!)

no need for a stamp it will be returned by recorded del.

I would send an addressed enverlope because mine was addresses wrongly.

If when you go into the Post Office you tell them that you want the passports sent back to you special delivery they will put all the relevant stamps and stickers on the self addressed envelope. (You obviously pay for this) Then all the Indian High Commission staff have to do is put your passports into the envelope and return it to you. Easy???

I thought I had got my visa applications sorted but not too sure now - help!!

There's me the missus and the daughter going to Goa in 6 weeks time. I know what is required to be sent to the High Commission, that's not the problem - this is.

I made out 3 SAE registered envelopes, one for each of us, with the sender's name of each on the back of the envelope. Then 3 SAE registered envelopes, one for each of us again, to send the bits and pieces back. Then paranoia started to set in (and I'm not normally paranoid)." What if one of the envelopes goes missing in the post". It's got to be better to send everything in one envelope - eh? "Ah, but is that acceptable?" (paranoia again..agggghhhh)

So Plan.B. is this - Send one large SAE registered envelope, with the 3 names on the back of the envelope, obviously to one address. Also send one large SAE registered envelope, again with the 3 names to one address. Then this should work - shouldn't it?

I haven't actually paid for any registered post yet, so won't lose any dosh.

McGroogle, stick to plan B. That is what i did with my wifes and mine and there was no probs. 1 recorded delivery envelope to indian consulate and one SAE recorded delivery back to you

How can I go about getting a vis afor more than 6 months? Are these available at Edinburgh?

I put 8 in 1 envelope and enclosed 1 envelope for their return, they all came back together. Ensure you use Special Delivery and not Recorded Delivery as said by Billy Bluenose. Recorded Delivery travels with the normal mail, Special Delivery is separate and handled securely.
