The spa facilities are really good at the Natura Palace, which is a 10 minute walk away from
the Rubicon Palace (it's actually 2 mins as the crow flies)... and the staff really do look
after you. They have a website so you can have a bit of a description too.
http://www.bodyandsoullanzarote.com The owner of the health spa is called Yola - tell her Elle says
Hi. Oh, and they've got yoga classes there now too, with Gill who has recently moved to the
Island, and has set up there. See you there for the shoulder stands. As for Playa Blanca - the world is your oyster! From your hotel, head to the seafront. You'll
soon reach a stretch of bars etc called "La Mulata". From the seafront side you'll see a gorgeous bar called "Manea"... it's decorated all in white, and has low seating, swinging chairs, chilled out music... and really is worth a few drinkies in. As you face that bar... look to the left hand side of it, and you'll see a flight of stairs. Go up those and there's more. To your immediate left is "Transylvania" - God we love that place! It's a Romanian restaurant... with buckets for wine glasses, and a great menu. i recommend the stuffed eggs as a starter (3 hard boiled eggs, halved, and stuffed with the most amazing pate). For main course... just try anything! I wasn't so keen on the escalopes... but the veal is to die for! On the other side of the staircase is La Campana - a fabulous Italian restaurant run by Ana and Salvatore. There's also Pinxtos which (in my personal opinion) has the best tapas in Playa
Blanca. The Argentinian Grill apparently excellent - but I haven't tried it personally so can't comment.
carry along the seafront - and get to the port and you will come across Punta Limones. This has The Irish Anvil, which is always popular... Popeyes... which shows the sports (if that's your thing)... there is also Alfie Moons for your soaps and a warm welcome. Then you also have Legends, which is a karaoke bar, and the Coach and Horses which has recently moved there. Rooftops is there - and is the only English run nightclub in Playa Blanca. Say Hi to Rich and Kate from me - or we'll just see you at the bar for a drink. Do a Google search for them - and you'll find their web page in the first 3 or 4 results. Don't try and just "stop off on the way back for one or two", as it's nigh on impossible!
Ok... going past Punta Limones you have the old harbour. there are various trips you can book from there. Aquaticket have an office right on the harbour... and can sort your daytimes for you. Keep going... over the harbour gravel, and up the stairs and you come to the main shops in Playa Blanca. You can either stick to the seafront, or you can go up the stairs again to the pedestrianised area.
On the seafront, we love Mamma Rossa for cheapo pizza and Mexican food. Going on from there (this is about a 30 minute walk from your hotel so far) is a real glut of restaurants. Pedro's is renowned as the best seafood in Playa Blanca. If you plan to go for Sunday lunch there, then do book, as it gets very busy with the Islanders. Just past there is the Almacen, which is superb! It's a little pricey - but very much worth the money! As you will see, this is right on the town beach, which is always good for a sunbathe and a paddle. During the evenings you can see the young lads training for Canarian wrestling. Keep going along the promenade, and you'll find Brisa Marina. it has green awnings, and parrots on a perch outside. We love this place... and go back time and time again! Try the "Pulpo con vingrette" - my mouth waters just typing this! Further along still you will see L'Artista up on a first floor. Another superb Italian restaurant (Salvatore from La Campna I already mentioned, used to be the chef here). next to it is the Galeria, run by Sue and Andy (we'll come back to him shortly lol).
Ok... now you will see a half-built hotel - complete eyesore - close your eyes and keep going. oh, unless the young canarian boys are jumping off the seawall and doing belly flops. You'll cringe when you see them, as the rocks below them are treacherous!
Walk along the promenade for another 10 minutes or so, and you'll reach the biggest beach in Playa Blanca - Playa Dorada. You can do all sorts of water sports here if that's your thing.
Just behind Playa Dorada is CC Papagayo which is a complex with bars, shops and restaurants in it. This is where Jungle Bar is - great for late nights (and I mean LATE). Atlantic Bar fills up around midnight. Mollies is ont he top floor, and is worth an Irish Craic. Downstairs from Mollies is one of our favourite bars. Phil runs this place, and runs it extremelt well. A couple called helen and Mark have just joined the business... and are busy building the daytime activities for families.
http://www.waxbars.com Here you will also find the Powerhouse Rock bar, run by Andy (I mentioned him earlier with regrds to the Galeria?). A cracking night in there, a little loud for my ears... but a real welcome change in the resort. Up the next set of stairs again... and on the left you have Snorkelling Delights, run by Tracey
http://www.snorkellingdelights.eu here you can book a snorkelling trip, buy all the kit, and book all
sorts of other stuff too. Opposite there is a little cafe. Order a pastela from there - oh my god, they're fantastic... and ideal for a light lunch. Ok... I'm rabbitting on now... and haven't even mentioned the marina yet - or Papagayo beaches, or any of the attractions a short way out of the resort...
If you want me to carry on and post more I will... but I also won't be offended if you don't
Elle xx
