If you really don't want to stay in that resort I would check again with Thomsons as I can't believe they want that much to change your accommodation.
Through Thomas Cook for example (used to work for them) if you wanted to change your accommodation but still go on the same day and flight then it would cost GBP25.00 or GBP30.00 per person when your departure date was so far in advance.
And I wouldn't have recommended Playa Paraiso to 4 adults! Did they ask you what type of resort you wanted (lively, quiet etc)? I will be staying quite near to it myself though, at the Bahia Principe, that's AI and we actually enjoy the fact that were miles out of Playa, but then we do have a child with us!
Good luck and if the worst happens and you have to go, I bet you still have a great time, after all you've got another couple for company, and a taxi should only be about 15 euros between the 4 of you into Playa.
we are going to give it ago. i would not, i would rather tell thomson to shove it where the sun dont shine. but as i said im out voted 3 to 1.
so i will just have to book a seat at the bar for two weeks. at least if i stay drunk then i wont know where i am just kidding
As for the point about going for a walk, there is a new walk way being built at the time of our visit it may well be finished now, it runs near the new 5* hotel at the bottom of the road from your hotel, and goes round the headland away from PDLA.
The bus to PDLA and Los Gigantes both stop just outside the hotel on the main road and are only a few euro's.
May I point out that if you like to walk a lot you should try Madeira for your next holiday, they have miles of walk ways called Lavadas some go back to the 15th century and go through some remote parts of the Island.
The main town of Funchal has more to see that all four of the Canary Islands put together, But that is just what I think.
Hope you and the other three have a good time.
Dave

Just wondered how your holiday turned out for you?
Hope it wasn't as bad as you thought it might be!
Did you find any nice walks in Playa Paraiso or anywhere else nearby?
I hope you managed to have a good time.
Regards

thank you for asking about our holiday.
the holiday was ok, it wasnt our sort of holiday but we made the most it. a friend of mine was in torivistas on our first week there, so we spent a day in there, then they spent a day in paraiso, didnt do much walking as the weather was very warm for walking in, ive never spent so much time sunbathing in my life lol, we entered a lot of the activities the entertainment team organised, they are great with adults and kids, i hope they are paid well as they are worth it. we didnt think the food was all that good. so we ate out a few nights. the hotel needs to get air conditioning in the rooms as the fans are no good. the rooms were very hot night and day. overall it was not to bad, a week would have been better. we would not back there,in saying that i would not want to put people with kids off going here for a week.as its great for kids.
