We are off to Paphos in mid July ,family of 4 , kids are 16 + 13 so eat adult meals.
I cannot remember the average cos last time we went to Cyprus 2 years ago so can any one give me an idea of average costs for main courses .
We are staying at Kefalos Beach Village so any recommendations for nearby would be appreciated , anywhere that has/had good deals .
3 of us like local food /steaks/fish etc and the "little pest" likes fried fish and chips .
Also any recommendations for places that have a particularly nice dessert selection would be welcome.
Cheers

Hi Blackcat,

Probably the best value for money is the 'Adelida' which is opposite the main group of hotels. They do a set meal for less than a tenner that includes a bottle of wine for every two people.

Another place I use is the 'Apomero', but I think it's only open in the evenings. That's behind the main tourist area - if you drive along the road that's next to the Adelida, you'll eventually reach it on the right hand side of the road.

If your kids like sticky toffee pudding the Kyrenia Beach Restaurant at Avdimou is the place to go - but it's way out of Paphos towards Limassol.

We paid around 26 - 60 cyp pounds per evening meal, and that was expensive!!! thats for 2 adults and 2 children. Most reataurants offer a set menu for around 6.95.

There are fish and chips shops.

Most restaurants have steaks, frozen fish and roasts.

There are small amounts of cypriot foods also available.

Paphos is very english so the catering is likewise, including mcdonalds and pizza hut!!!!

I agree, but there are still some places that do local food (the Apomero is one), if you know where to look.

Alternatively hire a car and visit some of the tavernas in the outlying villages. There's a very good agrotourism guest house and restaurant in the village of Nata - where you can start to appreciate what the real Cyprus is like.

In my opinion, and in no particular order.

For steaks cooked at your table FLAMBE restaurant in bar street.

ZA ZA - road opposite Alezander the Great hotel

FAT MAMAS for the best rack of ribs.

Best value fo money and best dessert trolley SISYFOUS on Tomb of the Kings Road - set menu £7.90.

ZAFFRON - for that very special dress-up night out.

Italian - DUOMO off Tomb of the Kings Road.

Cypriot food - in Tala I believe it's called VERVADES - dancing and some weird wooden sculptures. Best to book as the owner wants everythign to be just right for your meal and gets upset when you just turn up. Best to pop i, order a table for an hours time and pop back to the Marios in the square for a couple of drinks.

Hospitality - RODEO in Chlorakas, Joe is the best host and apologises for giving you a bill. Nine of us stayed for 6 hours, couldn't eat or drink another thing and the bill came to £20 each inc. tip. Our friends out there go a lot and have a wall covered in pics from all the parties they have.

Thanks everyone for responding.
A few people have recommended places to drive to , as I don't drive I rely on my husband and he has never driven outside of the uk and is pretty nervous so .is the driving thing ok and hiring of cars or will he be "forgetting" his licence like he did the last time

Hi Blackcat1  First thing to say is that you drive on the left hand side as we do........Now I'm going to hand you over to my husband as he does the driving!!!! :omg
Apart from the fact that they don't take much notice of red lights, road signs, other traffic and speed limits it's fine :?: !
Joking apart, get yourself a vehicle as the driving is, in our opinion, more relaxing than in the UK and there are some lovely places to visit, including the tavernas mentioned before, the Akamas and mountain villages.
Go for it and good luck. :gluck

As Max says it's about £1.50-£1.60 Cypriot for a pint.

The pint bottles are normally around £2 Cypriot.

You can pay in the west (Pafos) from a £1 to £1.50, depends of where you buy of course, I prefer Carlsberg it outsells Keo 3-1 now and it cost the same...anymore find another bar! have a good time!

Why are people so bothered about the price of a beer. My hubby is exactly the same, he has to know the price of a pint before he steps over the thresh-hold.AAAAGH!
For gods sake, we save up all year for a decent holiday, then he's nit picking over the price of a pint.

I don't really care, I'm on holiday and that's what I've saved for. I f I run out of cash I've got me plastic :?

It's obviously a man thing. :rofl
