We've just returned and we had a great time.We went with friends who were there last year.Zorro and his entertainment team were superb. The bar staff were also first class.Jose's slipperry nipples are not to be missed. The food was OK,not great, but a wee walk up to the Mexican bar at the Galleon helped in the afternoons.Nothing to worry about if you're heading out here because there's something for everyone.

A quick update on the ciggie situation. The larger supermarket opposite the beach club entrance sells cartons of 200 'under the counter', you need to ask for them. We were paying 38.50 euros for 200 bensons. The seafood restaurant on the beach (next to the smaller supermarket) sells individual packets from a vending machine, - 16 for 3 euros. We went to Portinax for the day and the Tabac next to Dell boys bar sells 200 for 37.5 euros. Someone told me that there is a shop in San Miguel village that does 200 for 35 euros.
Prices at the airport are 200 bensons for 38.5 euros. The airport is now completely no smoking, so your last chance for a fag is outside before you go through security.

Could anyone tell me if Vallentine is still working in the Galleon. Were all due to go back to San Miguel for our 8th time & we stayed at the Galleon last year, most enjoyable...Been reading on the forum that the food is not very good, whats wrong with it or is just some people being fussy...Were staying in the Hotel this time, so we wont have to do the big walk upto the Galleon...Does anyone Know of another Hotel that does as much as the,Galleon,Hotel&Beach club, my family & I have tried other hotels on the island but have yet to find one that does all that this resort does. I want a hotel that you can leave your money in the safe & still have a great time. The other hotels that we have stayed in are all inclusive but not everything is included ( cocktails, ice cream, milk shakes etc., ) Thats where this resort stands out, it maybe only rated 2 & 3 star but it makes up for it with everything it has to offer. I suppose you cant please everyone , but those that have been there & enjoyed it know what i mean... Thank You... 8)

Does anyone know if men have to wear long trousers in the restaurants?
Reply
Long trousers are not required in the restaurant.
Has anyone booked the hotel for 2 adults and 3 children before. If so how did you do it, as we are being quoted for the price of 5 adults with thomsons due to the fact that prices are based on two adults sharing each room and we have to book two rooms as there are no 5 bedded rooms. Once again another thomson rip off!!!

Thomson only cater for families with 2 adults with 1 or 2 childrenat the san miguel hotel. You should have been quoted a price for 4 adults and 1 child. I would suggest you ring the hotel direct and see if if they have any vacancies and they will charge you for 2 adults and 3 children but dont forget to check how much your airfares and taxis will cost as you could end up paying more for your holiday.

micknmill - If you do book direct - ask about availability of an apartment as they are much nicer than the hotel rooms

Hi,

I've just returned from the Dominican Republic and I now have to book my accommodation for Ibiza in the October School Week (Scottish Holidays). Looking at some of the hotel websites for accommodation, they show the San Miguel/esmerelda park as accommodation and the galeon as a seperate hotel. Am I right in thinking that these are sister hotels and that you can use any of the hotels? The other thing is that I contacted the hotel by e-mail a few months ago asking for a price for two bed apartments, but it appeared to be the hotel that they gave me a quote for. As I was already going on holiday, I did not query it and decided to wait until now before deciding where to stay and also to book.

Since I am not doing this as a package holiday, can anyone recommend the best company to book accommodation only with particularly for this hotel. Also can anyone tell me which hotel/part of the complex is better to stay in, especially if I cant get an apartment. My children are 14 and a 11 year old and is there plenty for them to do at the hotel?

The only other thing swaying me is that the transfers are quite long to this complex. Has this put anyone off, or would I be better looking for a hotel that does not have long transfers such as the Fiesta Tanit, which is also AI.

Thanks

Keanda

Hi. The hotels that make up the San Miguel complex are the Galeon, Cartago and Beach Club - I don't think the Esmerelda Park is owned by the same group, but could be wrong.

If booking direct, my understanding is that you can either book hotel rooms at the Galeon or apartments at the Cartago. We have booked an apartment for the last two years and this year on the booking confirmation it states Hotel Cartago VIP Room -Apt, whereas last year it stated Apartments Cartago. Don't get there until 31st July but expect that it will be an apartment that we are staying in. I think the prices are the same for hotel or apartment. Although we still made a saving, there wasn't a huge difference this year booking direct than booking a package with Thomsons, whereas last year it was almost half the cost

There should be lots of things going on to keep your children happy, although I have only been in July and August and don't worry about the transfer - it only takes 20-25 minutes by taxi.

Just got back in the early hours of this morning. Had a great time, a few gripes this time, but nothing serious. Will write a review in a day or so.

Micknmill - your message was greatfully accepted by Alfredo, who was as usual amazingly charming!! He said not to worry about missing him when you left, and he'll maybe catch up with you next year and to send you his best regards8)

Willerby - if yoyr off there in the next few weeks, I'm afraid to say the battle for the sunbeds will be on, ususal completely riddiulous mentality!! Best time for a sunbed is at around 3pm, when everyone is disappearing for snacks etc The best time of day, it's still roasting hot until well after 7pm.

Thanks for that molliemoo but its news I didn't want to hear :( , the sunbed fight at dawn can spoil the holiday  . But Hey Ho we'll be on holiday in 3 weeks time while everybody else we know will be at work , can't wait it's going to be great . Another bonus is that we normally met new people waiting for the sunbed bun fight . :D

Just back from another brilliant holiday at San Miguel...and ready to book for next year! Hope I can answer a few questions - sunbeds seem to be getting taken in the early hours despite notices from the hotel saying not allowed before 8am. Weather - stunning when we left (29 july) and in the middle of a heatwave. Food - fine, but hotel restaurant very busy, Beach Club better. Drinks - what can I say!!!! Jose and the gang in the Western Saloon great as ever! Cleanliness - would be perfect if it wasnt for a lot of inconsiderate families..........seriously, do these people really let their kids throw their unwanted food on the floor at home? Germans - more than last year but we made some good friends amongst a rather reserved lot! Entertainment - Zorro, Natasha, Ollie and Chris brought the roof down as always, utterly brilliant. Natasha had said she was going to take a year off but just before we went home she had decided to go out again from mid june to mid sept - she is a top girl! Cigarettes - available in cartons if you ask, from the supermarket next to Chinese restaurant (think its called Sol y Mar), single packs from machine in seafood restaurant by beach and from cafe next to excursions shop. Excursions are cheaper and better than Thomsons here, ask for Danielle. Anyone going out there please say hi from Gary and Kate to Jose and staff in Western Saloon, Zorro and entertainers, and Pepe (restaurant manager, Beach Club) - we had a great time!

Does anyone know if we are allowed to put our email addy on this site, as it would be nice to talk to others who are planning to go next year and compare memories of this year!

a friend of mine who is going to the San Miguel hotel in september has asked if i can find out from the forum if anybody knows if there is a cashpoint either in one of the hotels in the complex or in the village of san miguel.

also what are the best excursions to do and can anyone recommend a local place to book them please

Hi 8)

there isn't a cash machine in the resort. The nearest is in the village of San Miguel. Although I have to say it was a bit of a complicated one!!! If the bank is open, someone may need to assist! I found the CAM cash machines easier, but there isn't one of those in San Miguel. If your friend gets return taxi, it'll cost approx 12 euros, one way is about 8euros.

As for excursions, we hired a car, so I'm not the best to ask. But apart from the TO excursions, there is a small agency among the strip of shops in the resort, near to Euopcar I think (?). There's also the mini train that goes to Portinax.

Hope this help 8)
