hi there
re lilos in pools - we were also told last year that they were banned from the pools but I see that we stayed at the Tanit which is owned by the Fiesta chain that also own the Don Toni that marie mentioned.
So not sure if it's the law or just company policy for Fiesta.
caroline
it only seems 5 minutes since you went, never mind back
Thanks for clarifying the cig situation. I only need to do 5 days before we hire a car and get out to one of the Tabac shops!!. Last year you could buy cigs in the Beach club reception and hotel bar, but I assume they're not doing that this year
Well we will look out for you..........and from what I have read, we may be the ones to be found searching near and far for somewhere to buy cigarettes!
Last year the supermarket/gift shop nearest the beach sold them singly and in 200 packs........does anyone know whether this is still the case or should we buy before we go? Don't think I could face a fortnight without ciggies, even in such a great place!

The shops over the road do single packs under their counter (very expensive) but the shop further down (oposite the club) do boxes of 200 and only a couple of euros more expensive than the tabaco shops. We went to San Miguel town once and searched everywhere for the tobaco shop, found it but after spending 6 euros for a cab back it works out cheaper from the shop by the club.
Couple of questions, hopefully someone can answer!
Do the bars serve bottled water on AI basis?
Our child likes a drink of milk, Whats the chances of getting milk in the hotel and / or are there any local supermarkets?
finally, Anyone know the nappie situation in this resort? do the shops sell nappies?
Thanks in advance.......!
I can answer most of your questions
You can buy nappies in the supermarkets, but they cost a fortune!!! Pampers equivalent was 15euros for 22. Milk is also plentiful in the supermarkets as well. My older son tells me that you can get milk over the bar, on the AI, but I can't remember if this is accurate or not.
You can't get bottled water at the bars, but you can get water. If the water is for a baby, I'd recommend buying it from the supermarket as you can't guarentee the sodium content if the water is poured for you. If you can, hire a fridge for your room (you can email in advance) then you can keep milk and water cold for the baby. We buy a big water, put it in the fridge, then pour it into smaller bottles.
We have only 15 sleeps to go now!!!!
hi just got
just got back yesterday.........great holiday as usual but food not as good - not as much choice.......they have changed the restaurant for the worse - the cartago restaurant creating more queues....remember how the buffet area was in the middle and on busy nights they opened both sides - well that has gone and they had a separate table in the middle of the dining area with speciality nights such as carvery and fish night - well that has gone too.........there is just one buffet area now with the speciality night food at the end so you have to queue in the same queue for that........there does not seem to be as much choice now ....and the quality of the food has gone down - we have been coming for 3 years now and we were a little disappointed............some nights resorting to soup and salads.............they need to sort this as quite a few guests that we were talking too were discussing the change...............
Looks like we taking 70 nappies with us!
Any idea how much a fridge costs for 2 weeks? and what details do i email them with?
Hope the air conditioning works... Its gonna be HOT HOT HOT !
you'll have a great time, despite the nappy prices!! We took plenty when we went, so we were ok, you can't always guarentee the supermarkets there will have the right size either.
If I remember rightly, it was approx 42euros for the fridge for 2 weeks, well worth it though. If you email the hotel on hotelcartago@terra.es give them all your details including you booking reference. They will email you back with a confirmation, then you just pay on arrival at reception.
I can't wait for some respite from the miserable weather here, just to be warm for more than 2 days at a time will be luxury!!!!
Going to San Miguel hotel in two weeks time, and am a bit worried after having just read the hotel reviews section. Up to now most of the reviews seem to be very good, but a few of the latest ones seem a bit concerning. Has anyone reading this been recently. If so could you give me and other people due to go here an honest opinion. I know that everyone has different expectations of hotels and want different things from their holidays, but I must admit that I am a bit worried now after just reading the latest reviews. Thanks.
we're off for the 2nd time to the San Miguel Hotel in 5 days time Despite the recent reviews, I'm not overly concerned, I think it's either what your looking for or it's not. If it's not what you want then you'll more than likely hate it. Personally I wouldn't want to stay in the Beach Club part, especially at busy times. The majority of problems at the SM are caused by the guests. There are bins everywhere, but still people can't be bothered picking their rubbish up & throwing it in the bin. People use the loos, and don't flush etc etc. The staff try their damnest to keep the place clean. There was a remark about condoms in the kids play area. This area was a problem area at night, as all the amorous teens congregate around there, all I can argue is that the cleaners can't be everywhere all of the time
Yes the complex could probably do with a lick of paint, but when we were there last year they were painting bit by bit then.
We will probably be there at the same time as you, so I won't be able to give you reassurance before you travel, but I have to email home during our stay, so if there's credit left on the web connection, I'll try and do a quick post
Thanks for your reply. You are right in what you say about the guests causing a lot of probs themselves, as I have seen it happen in other hotels. Its mainly the bits about the food not being too good, and state of the rooms that concern me. However, Ive decided not to worry, as I know that you, and a lot of other people have all been before, and as you are going back it can't be all that bad! I am really looking forward to it and am sure that we will have a good time.
My team leader at work has just come back from here and she said it was great. Plenty to do for the kids and good food apparently.
She did say that the resort itself is very small and there is nothing at all to do.
Hope that helps!
Amanda
Don't worry Skinnybot about all these mixed reviews. San Miguel is to each person's liking. I am off for my 3rd time in 2 weeks and really can't wait, so it can't be that bad. I am sure that when you get there you will wonder what all the fuss is about, and even if it doens't please you at first, the fantastic entertainment team will make up for it And as for there is nothing to do at all that is not at all true. Yes it is a very quiet resort, but thats one nof the nice things about it. But there is always plenty of things provided by the hotel in the day to do, and you can wonder around to other hotels and even mini golf
we go on Monday can't wait now, got the excitment butterflies!!! Dreamt about it last night, for some bizarre reason I was searching for Jose in the Western Saloon, must be preparing myself for his super strong drinks!!!!!
Two weeks to wait for me.... Has anyone just come back got any hints / tips?
Got back on Saturday for the 3rd time. Yet another fantastic time, - will post a full review later today or tomorrow. Nobody worry the place is still excellent
Thanks everyone for your reassuring replies. I have stopped worrying now. Micknmill, I will look forward to your review.
