Harrys Os, Robin Hood, Woodys, Cockatoos, Demokritas remained open but a large amount were definitely closed and not for refurbishment. I'd go as far as saying half the bars/restaurants were closed in February.
jimbox, I appreciate you live there and have first hand knowledge, but I spent every night around Bar Street during my stay and spoke to some bar owners and they told me that's the way it is. By April 1st all have re-opened.
I'm flying out on 9/11 for 10 days so maybe we can meet up for a Keo or three
I must admit Bar Street is not a favourite place to drink for me, but I do go in the area at night a fair bit, and for sure ''some'' close as I said for refurbishments, but I would say at least half stay open all year if possible with the heating on usually, I use Zorro's near bar street and it is open 365 days a year even Christmas night!...you would be very hard presses not to get a drink in Pafos at any time of the year and at most times... it is one of the few resorts that does stay open all year mainly for the large ex-pat brigade like me..
i thought it would be touch and go with the weather so we will probably go to Lanzarote instead.
I will look forward to visiting Paphos when we are over in Sept.
We went to Corfu early in May this year and it was lovely during the day most of the time but the evenings were freezing and there was no heating! so would rather not go through that again!
I know we could go furher away but the 4 1/2 hour flight is enough for me!
Thanks again,
Amber
Amber May is not a problem in Cyprus, we do have a far better climate than Corfu, just to put this into perspective we had Christmas lunch outside near the pool last year and in the previous Christmas's, it is Feb that is the problem ..sometimes!
but I need some help,we ideally would like to stay as close to Paphos centre as poss, want a decent 4 star hotel but not one that states that men can't wear shorts in the bar area,I understand the restaurant. One that has an allocated sun bed system ( if any of them do) any recommendation would be fantasic,I'm going to read the forum for Paphos hotels but I really havent got a clue.
I'm afraid that most, if not all, of the decent 4 star hotels in Paphos have dress codes.
Last year the other half wanted a change from Protaras so we to went to Paphos.Needless to say we ended up back at Protaras this year.I'm not sure what hotels do sunbed allocation, maybe the Athena ones which are along the sea front.Any of the hotels along the main coast road would be recommended and are in walking distance to the restaurants etc in Kato Paphos.
I do know it will be long trousers for dinner though.
I know Don&Pam our regular members have visited this hotel many times, so I am sure they will be able to answer the question for you.

Any help appreciated.
It's also a much busier place than Protaras, especially when you're out and about at night(not that it's a bad thing). Can't fault the selection of restaurants and bars, plenty to choose from and lots of quality. The same can be said for most of the hotels, like I said earlier probably any of the ones along the main coast road all the way into Kato Paphos would be recommended.I think they are all 4 or 5 star and have their own section of beach.
One big negative, particularly for the females,is the amount of mozzies in Paphos. You won't get one bite you'll get several, all at the same time so be well prepared if you don't already use all the usual repellants.
Can't really think of anything else at the moment, you might think some of the comparisons are a bit trivial but it made a difference to us,although I will say I did enjoy Paphos but having gone to Protaras as a first time to Cyprus it was a bit of a hard act to follow.
thanks furball

I have been studying the map, but can not find the Athena Beach on it. Can anyone tell me if its near the Alexander the Great?
Athena Beach is a good 15 - 20 mins walk from Alexander the great if my memory serves me right. There is a bus route along the main road though.
Just looked at map and Athena Beach is right opposite the Avanti (map ref E9) if that's any help to you. Wonder why the Athena isn't on the map, it's a lovely hotel, spent 2 weeks there a few summers ago.
If you look on the map at E9 and look where the "s" of Pachyammos is then
that is where the Athena Beach is Saw it every day as we left the
Avanti Village............nice looking hotel

On my third attempt at trying to find Paphos airport at 2.00am ( don't ask!!! ), we landed outside the Avanti
Unfortunately you had went home the week before or you could have had Alex and I at your door looking for a bed
Did enjoy our meet tho.
Love
Janet
thankd a lot for all the replies. You lot ou there are such a help. Have found where the hotel is now. Thanks
So can any of you folks out there help? I'm trying to organise a reunion between my sister and the parents after a long period of estangement - for long and too boring reasons she won't stay with them and is looking for a hotel that caters well for someone in a wheelchair with very little mobility. She needs to be in Paphos, either the main town or Coral Bay area - she can't use public transport although she wants to take her abled bodied boyfriend and car hire may be an option - oh and being a scot she wants to pay as little as possible. she has managed self catering (with boyfriend) before.
thanks - Jane
