malc- you can easily post a photo in our Goa photo gallery. We have literally hundreds of Goa photos there- I don't think you will find a better one in any other website.
La Plage at Aswem and Le Restaurant Francais (off the Baga Rd) are both owned by a guy called Serge and both are still open
2 of my favourite places in Goa, La Plage during the day, and Le restaurant at night. Always surpriese me how little they are mentioned on here as the food is some of the best I have ever eaten. Serge and his mad whisky drinking other half are a great laugh too.
martin is La Plage on Ashvem beach or Mandrem beach? People on here say diferent things. Not sure where to find it!
La Plage and Le Restaurant Francais are jointly owned by Serge, Morgan and Morgan's partner Florence.
I would say it's on Asvem or between Asvem and Mandrem.

I have just read your post GFF about La terasse. I can't believe it has closed, we ate there 3 times in 3 weeks last year and loved it. I wonder why they closed, they seemed to be doing good business when we were there?
Anyway can anyone suggest a good place in Calangute / Baga for steaks? Have tried Bernards but wasn't that impressed.

Sublime in Baga do fantastic fillet steaks. Its a first class restaurant run by an English couple. Its a little bit more expensive than some but its worth paying a little extra. The ambience is good and they even provide pashminas for the ladies if its a bit cool. On friday evenings they have two Indian musicians who play lovely relaxing music.
Its closed on Tuesdays.

Hi Minnie9, having read previous posts on here, I was told that Sublime had shut down and the English couple (Alan and his wife) and the chef Chris had got their separate ways? I had heard that Chris had set up another place in Anjuna, does anyone know?
Thanks
Thanks

chris who was at sublime, does anybody no what his new restaurant is called??? or where abouts it is??
Just found a new one this year - "Lucky Horsehoe" in Panjim.
It's in the old portuguese quarter next door to Sosa's fashion shop on the banks of Ourem Creek.
The decor is very chic and the cuisine genuine Portuguese.
Specialities are salted tongue, chicken piri-piri and crumb fried mussels.
Also in the Portuguese quarter, you musn't miss the "Hotel Venite" which is in a crumbling old building in 31 January Road. Don't be put off by the look of the place - the kitchen is spotless and the food exquisite. They specialise in fish and shellfish.
This place is very popular with the backpackers.

Goanne / Bluemoon, Chris from Sublime is somewhere in Anjuna - not sure where but I'll investigate.......maybe Chilly can help out with this one as I think she was friends with Chris. Sublime is still up and running but Chris is definitely Not there.
Goancrazy - there are rumours as to why La Terasse closed but I fear the wrath of Fiona if I post them on here!!!! There are quite a few good steak places around, I like A Reverie (bit expensive) and also Franks do a nice steak as does Leslie at the Chippy or Molly Malones.
GFF xx

Hi we have lived in Goa for 2 years and here are a few of our favourite places to eat.
Lazy Days in CSM road. Baga
Florentines in Saligao- very reasonable prices
East meets west Baga
Sublime Baga
Drinky's Calangute great English food when you are craving for a home cooked meal
If in Panjim you must try Fidelgo Hotel they have 5 different restraunts
our favourate is chilly and spice the crispy honey chicken is lush.
and for a posh hotel the prices are very reasonable.
For the best Indian meal ever Delhi Durbhar also in Panjim is great.

There are now 2 Sublimes, neither up to the (very high) standard of last season. Chris the chef has opened his own Sublime in Anjuna (somewhere on the way to the market). Alan & Julia who ran the old Sublime no longer run a restaurant. New owners took over the old Sublime location and have kept the name (and also some of the waiters, and part of the menu). The location is a bit of a dustbowl at the moment due to the destruction of the old Baga bridge and the construction of a new road.
The people who ran La Terrasse have apparantly done a runner, leaving their staff and landlord out of pocket and in the lurch. Allegedly!
Max13biker has let the secret out of the bag - Lucky Horseshoe and Venite are both excellent places to eat, and such good value that the saving on the bill more than pays for a taxi to and from Candolim/Calangute/Baga where similar food would have cost at least twice as much.

Philingoa,
I heard the same story about the guys from La Terasse (must be true then)???...........you're a braver person than me for posting it on here though......wait til Fiona sees it!!!
Thanks for the info about Sublime - is it worth a trip to Anjuna??
Cheers, GFF xx[/img]

Yes, there is a sign on the blackboard at La Terasse saying "la terrasse - no more".
That part of Baga at the moment a lot quieter due to the box bridge currently being dismantled - making it much more expensive getting a taxi from Baga

We are friends with the Landlord or La Terasse and we spoke with him over the weekend, he was telling us how the tenants had left the restaurant without a word, and it was not possible to keep open at the moment due to monies outstanding.
I have to say that it is a crying shame, prior to La Terasse this was known as Mooncrest, and it was here that we came to know David. He has become a very good friend over the years and we were sad to see him let out his restaurant (he made a prawn curry to die for). However it gave him a chance to have some time out and concentrate on other projects. He certainly does not deserve to be treated in this way.
David took us to the new Sublime at Anjuna at Christmas, the one run by Chris the original chef. The food was lovely, although the setting is rather basic.
We also visited the Sublime at Baga Bridge - we really enjoyed ourselves there, but due to the demolition works found it impossible to contemplate going back for a second time. Such as shame that they are being affected so much by these works.
Another restaurant to look out for is 'i95' at Candolim - great food.

LOL I knew someone would ask that
It was one which David took us to again and therefore he was driving (away from the main roads from Arpora), it is behind an Art Gallery (I know blinking useless aren't I
), not on the main road itself, but coming from Calungute up a side road on your left.
