Miccie I agree with your OH the food is probably the best you will get anywhere. It really is outstanding. Gemma you must give it a try it's worth seeking out.

want a fantastic restaurant then go to rustlers steak house in calangute opp the Poirat football ground. its away from the main roads but at the same time only meteres away. great food and entertainment every nite. my friend johnny at jungle village does do a great roast. and the reason jazz house was closed down etc was because of the drug usage and selling in the place.

Well if the owner can't recommend Rustlers then I suppose it would really be in trouble ( will allow this ad!)

I cant remember seeing Rustlers?? where abouts exactly is it? is it down a side road?

rustlers is behind the nizmar resort. you take the road opposite the nike and reebok shops then your 1st right again and follow it round. its the only restaurant there. we used to be on the main road opposite Lloyds bar on the border of calangute/candolim.

Feel a bit reluctant giving this info, but the Bhatti Village Bar down the lane from our house in Nerul is outstanding for food.
It is popular with tourists and locals. Run by Patrick and Michelle (both Goans from the village) they do fabulous authentic Goan food. There is no menu, Patrick tells you what they have available on the day. His fish dishes are lovely and they do the best chips I have ever tasted anywhere. Chicken Cafreal is also very good as is the beef chilli fry. Many Goans are very fussy where they eat but Patrick has a very good reputation for his authencitity and I have yet to hear a bad word about it.
They have two rooms, one where the locals tend to gather and the 'Special Room' where the tourists sit.
They only have five tables and fill up fast. Food is very cheap and 60ml romanov costs R13. It is very clean and the welcome is warm and cheery.
There can be a wait if he is busy but its well worth it.

Directions: at Nerul junction turn left instead of right towards Coco Beach. Follow the lane and you will see his coloured lights outside.
We have bought tiffin carrier so if we stay in we pop along and get a takeaway

Towpal - youv'e gone and told everyone about Bhatti's - it's the best value, freshest, tastiest eatery i've been to. The people who told us about it said they would be happy to eat the food off the kitchen floor it is that clean. I probably would'nt go that far although it is fantastic.

Please can you give me some idea of very cheap places to eat (around Candolim preferably). Just booked a flight for April but will only have a few pennies!!! - just came back!! I think I've eaten at the Bhatti Village Bar - its very good and very cheap!

Try Viva Goa, hubby and me ate there most nights and for the two of us including drink we averaged 200 rupees, some nights it was even less but on one occassion we had kebabs and shock horror it came to all most 500 rupees.

Just got back from Goa on Saturday and i had many a fine meal. Here are some of the places i ate at and cant complain about any of them..... Exotic Palms (Calangute) Over the Flames (calangute) 1-95 (Calangute) Maggies (Calangute) Floyds x2 (candolim) Bistro (candolim) Casa Seashell x2 (candolim) Mai Tai (candolim) and Molly Malones in Calangute.
All very cheap apart from 1-95 where our meal cost around £22 for 2. Expensive for Goa but worth every penny as the setting is beautifull and a bit upmarket from anywhere else ive eaten before in Goa. Worth spoiling yourselves at least once

Just returned from Goa and had alot of nice meals here are some of the places i ate in and was very impressed over the flame (baga) kim faa chinese (baga) east meets west (baga) all spice (arpora) fiesta (baga) never had a bad meal in any of the named.

God to many to mention.Heres a few, Jungle Village,Bobby's beach shack up CSM road,Bernards,etc....

Most of those bring back wonderful memories and bring the taste buds into play yum yum.

Hope it's OK to add this one here, as it's not a Restaurant. But for anyone craving a good coffee the best place is Cafe Coffee Day, the Indian version of the Cafe Nero etc. Iv'e found shops in Panjim, Margao and Colva and the espresso macchiato is as good as Iv'e had anywhere .

Cafe Coffee Day now have outlets in Candolim, Calangute and Baga too. The first 2 have air-conditioning - very welcome at this time of year. Excellent cold coffees, sandwiches/cakes etc. Shame about the rubbish music they play though!

The one in Baga Road also has appauling service as well!!

poipleshadow - the fish place on tito's road is called Nisha's - it is by far the best fish i have tasted - the chefs are superb
