Dear Lardylegs, i call myself porridge bum!....you really have nothing to worry about and anyway why should you :) ,the svelte people are the Italians and they eat in their own restaurants.
As for on the beach be more aware of sunburn and drink plenty of water and have a lovely holiday.

i just got back from egypt.. the first day i refused to wear my bikini then after half an hour i decided in actual fact i would look better then most of the others and went and changed lol

seriously you see some unbelivable sights and i am sure u look better then a lot of others ... if you are still worried about showing your body then get one of those cotton coverall things they are selling now then u will be cool and covered

good luck with the weightloss anyways and have a great time and stop worrying

Just maybe, a guy's point of view would interest you a little, Lardylegs?
I agree with everything the girls have said! There are plenty and I do mean plenty of people who are overweight, call it what you will. Sharm is not full of "beautiful", well proportioned people, its full of a cross section of the world community. Skinnies, fatties and all those in between. You're already a cut above the rest because you subscribe to this forum, so stop worrying and just go and enjoy yourself! Its your personality that should form others opinions of you, not how much you weigh!

Well said Carrot. :D Always good to get the male perspective.

Speaking as a somewhat lardy type myself, am pleased to say that there were allsorts about last April and am very much hoping for the same this April.

If all else fails it's never too hot for the disguise of a thin sarong of some description, when popping to the beach or pool bar or in any other upright position. For 'sunbed time' well I find that most folk look much the same when lying down.

Dont worry, I'm sure you will have a great time. :D

As an 'Evans Shopper' I can assure you that you will not be treated as a second class citizen in Egypt if you are overweight. You are more likely to be judged by the size of your smile and how you treat other people!

However, saying that, I am desperately trying to lose a bit of weight before I go back in a months time - but only because I will feel more comfortable in the heat!

Absolutely!! I am a large person as well and never had any worries in Egypt! I had a brill time last easter and return again in 10 days! Love sarongs and love swimming...enjoy it all and believe me you will enjoy all shapes and sizes and personalities on the beach and around the pools!

Couldnt agree more with all the posts, just forget about other people and enjoy yourself. i too used to feel like that on holiday, and since i stopped worrying i now enjoy my hols more , by relaxing and being cooler and not trying to cover up all the time. I think you would attract more attention in the heat by trying to cover up!!. The only time I was ever critical of anyone overweight and under dressing abroad, was when we were in Turkey and at a beach restaurant and a man cut through the restaurant to get to the beach wearing only what appeared, from the back to be a thong, His stomach was too large too see if it had any front covering!!! - bad taste more than the weight problem - put me off my lunch! Enjoy yourself, we're going in May. I'm more concerned if I will still be able to get diet/light coke /fanta? in the resort or hotel as I plan on drinking a LOT. :P anyone know if this is available - would be helpful. - thanks

Aww, thanks guys....or lady and guy! It was good to hear from you and I enjoyed reading your words of comfort and wisdom.
You are right to say that I shouldn't worry, but I do! Being off on maternity leave at the mo I am definitely overeating a tad (well more than a tad, but hey ho!) and am consequently piling on the pounds.
It will be worth losing some weight before going on holiday if it means that I will feel less self-conscious and more comfortable there.
Don't get me wrong though, I am not going to lose any sleep over the whole thing and can't wait for our holiday! :)

Suo, please bear in mind that fizzy drinks (esp. coke) will not satisfy your thirst. In fact, they say that for every coke you drink you should drink a glass of water to replace the fluid. Maybe best to stick to water and fruit juice? Hope you don't mind me mentioning that!

Suo. Diet coke is definately available. Couldn't find any slimline tonic to go with my duty free gin but it was only a small shop so couldn't expect it to stock everything!

From what I remember of my travels to north Africa the locals seem to give more attention (welcome or otherwise) to the "Larger Lady". I'm a tall, slim brunette and I got ignored most of the time. Bit annoying when you're trying to get served in a shop or bar!

Anyway, I wouldnt worry about it at all, get out there, enjoy yourself, come back looking tanned and healthy and refreshed.

(I'm off to Sharm in September!! V. Excited)

Hi Nodocoe :wave yes i know what you mean regarding the male species,
i wont mention a particular "nation" as i dont wish to offend, but i saw a man last year whom was so huge that his wife just wrapped him up on a sun lounger and left him! when i say wrapped i literally mean that !
She was a sylph like 18 stone i would say.

thanks for th advice, when you go all inclusive you naturally want to take full advantage of the drinks  (alcoholic) but when you cant find a low cal mixer to go with them, you do start to worry about the calories ( i do anyway)
Caro - did you mean you can get the diet coke in the hotels or just in the shop?? thanks :?
Reply
i saw diet coke most places...not diet sprite or tonic tho....there was soda water available

have a good time

D'oh! I should have known that you meant it as a mixer with alcohol, suo. I really need to get out more!!!
Have a lovely holiday x

When we were on the beach it was the Russian men in thongs getting the most attention

the wife and I are going back to sharm this July/August and she had EXACTLY the same worries as you the first time we went.
She did pack bikini's and also packed them sarong things (is that how ya spell it??), anyway, she wore the sarongs to and from the beach / pool and she didnt know what she was worrying about after the first day!.

like was said above, most people look the same when horizontal anyway!

fat / thin / tall / short ,theres all sorts the same as everywhere.

and for what it's worth ......give me a chubby lass over a skinny bird any day of the week! and you'll probably find that most blokes would say the same and think larger ladies look sooooo much better anyway!

go for it girl.
