After reading up on PMLE, I'm pretty sure that's what me and my sister both suffer from when we go on holiday.
Thank you for highlighting this and hopefully, this year we will have an itch free holiday with our families.
I got a little sunburn on my back 2 days ago, never had prickly heat before but boy have I got it now, it is driving me insane. is there any instant remedy that can help. something that I may have in the house. HELP!!!
just wrap some ice in a t towel & hold that on it. Just cooling it down takes a lot of the itchiness out of it & stay out of the sun of course.
Try Yogurt its very good.
can use in the bath or with aftersun after a bath / shower etc
cucumber out of the fridge is nice and cooling / soothing too
Do these dry spray oils have 5 star UVA protection? The reason I ask is my PMLE is always worse if I dont use a sunscreen with 5 star UVA.
The SPF 30 i have got is 3 star

Hi, can anyone help me??? I am new to all of this and i am so glad i came onto this forum as I too suffer from PH! I first got it last year in Benidorm and then I have just got it recently in the Scottish Sun and I am going on holiday next Fri to the mIddle East where is is approx 45 degrees! I went to the docs and she gave me prednisolone. She gave me a 5 day course and Ive to take 8 tabs a day. I am going away for 10 days though. Will I start taking them when I arrive? but with ti only being 5 days will it cover me for the 10 days? Can anyone help me????
pepsi - I am certainly not an expert but 8 tablets a day sounds like a lot! Can you check back with the GP? My daughter is on a course at the moment (nothing to do with PH) but her course is - 3 for 5 days, 2 for 5 days and 1 for 5 days. This is because they can cause withdrawal symptoms. So it doesn't sound right if you are on 8 a day and then suddenly stop.
Hi Starry, I did kind of think myself 8 was alot too, but they are only 5mg. I will phone just incase though!
Just sent you a pm but don't think you can receive them yet. Would definitely phone the GP regarding the dose. I think the tablets are usually 5mg, so 8 a day doesn't sound right.
Whenever I've used steroids for PH I only use 5mg per day for the duration of the holiday. As the other posters say ring your GP and check. (doctors do make mistakes - I know, I work with several!) 40mg a day is TOO much IMO and it would be dangerous to just suddenly stop them after 5 days!
after the tip on here, my gp gave me the steroids, 5mg a day, but it could be increased to 15 mg ( 3 tablets over the course of 24 hours) if i had a severe reaction
Well I called the doc back to clarify the amount and she said to take 8 a day! I did say to her this seems an awful lot, and she said because it's such a low dose if you only took 1 or 2 at a time you wouldn't react to them that's why you need to take 8
I am worried about my daughter taking 3 a day for 5 days, then working down to 2 and 1. This is for a more serious condition than PH. Are the tablets 5mg each?
Yes 5mg each. Maybe I should just take a couple a day and see how I get on.........
I am so pleased I read all your comments on this site! I have suffered terribly for over 30 years with prickly heat, tried everything, anti histamine 4 weeks before going away, piz buan allergy suncream, aloa vera, trying to keep in the shade etc etc... nothing ever worked and I always had the dreaded heat 'bumps' that looked awful starting across the chest, then arms and legs leaving my skin looking like a crocodiles, it was so embarassing and painful/itchy. I had never heard of Polymorphic Light Eruption but new straight away it was exactly what I have. My skin is bad this week due to the rare hot weather we had last weekend so went to doc,s armed with a printout of P.L.E. and he new straight away what it was. I am going to Cape Verde in 8 days time and was dreading the usual problems, now I cannot wait as I have 14 days supply of prednisol 5 mg twice a day and Hydracortisone cream (to use sparingly) I cannot thank you all enough as I am sure I can finally enjoy a holiday abroad. due back 29th so will let you know. Regards Sue
Have a great holiday and come back on and let us know how you get on!
Hi Pepsi - I still think 40mg a day is too much! I used to suffer really badly and 5mgs a day has always been enough to stop the rash! Still I suppose your GP knows best???
Denny
but i never get it in this country, only abroad. these tablets must be taken with caution and are not suitable for everyone, but for me, they have been a godsend.
Oh god I don't know what to do now! I don't want to phone my doc and question her as I think it will seem patronising..........
