PROTARAS

I loved Protaras when I was there about 5 years ago. Its rather spread out so if you end up where the majority seem to around fig tree bay try travelling up coast towards Famagusta where its not so busy.
I wasnt a huge fan of Ayia Napa, the beach was littered with toe-stubbing rocks and its certainly has the feeling that it could all go off seriously at night time around the square (too many young egos in a frustrating bar area). However Paddys bar was good fun although as usual it cost a little more for a drink of the Liffey water!

hi everyone, had a little giggle to myself tonight regarding the waterpark in ayia napa. i remember the bus turning up outside the nicolas tavern in protaras and me saying to my wife " aww we will never get on this, its packed!" but the bus driver pulled up, beckoned us on with several others and forcibly heaved the standing passengers down the aisle so we could all get on shouting "move!!!". we ended up with our kids sat on knees of strangers and me propped at 45 degrees with my head stuck out of the window like a cocker spaniel  i believe my wife was straddled over the drivers gearbox(she's still not fully recovered ) and not a seatbelt to be found! the bus driver got really irate with passengers asking him every
two minutes " is this the stop for the water park" and he'd shout " no! i will tell you! i will tell you!
once in there, there are some incredible rides like atlantis (in the dark at high speed) the giant funnel which spins you round a sort of whirlpool and dumps you into a deep pool at the end of it and my favorite the "slingshot" which i can't explain but screamed all the way through it  oh happy days ! :D

Taking a bus trip in Protaras is indeed a holiday experience in itself - some of the drivers seem to be verging towards insanity. I thought the one we had was going to get out of the bus and start beating it (like Basil Fawlty), when we came to that steep hill by Cape Grecko- there were that many people on it I thought it would never make it!
Reply
oh yes that steep hill  5 mph all the way up with a dirty black cloud coming from the exhaust! the last few stops before the waterpark the busdriver would drop his window and bellow at people waiting at the bus stop on the other side of the road " DON'T MOVE! I WILL BE ROUND TO YOU IN FIVE MINUTES!

That'll be interesting davetraceyuk, Cyprus won't know what to do with itself with me and you singing within a couple of weeks.

They may not open next summer as they'll need the time to recover.

I'm the opposite to what people think of the Welsh. I can't sing.

At least I have a go though.

thoroughly looking forward to cyprus though...........just as long as you don't empty the bars dave.althought that would mean there would be no queue at the bar :P, so sing away matey.

i've only been once before, last year. i used to go to tenerife religiously year after year but had heard about protaras and thought i'd give it a go. the big differences i found was the weather is definitely more reliable in cyprus, theres no touts thrusting scratchcards in your face every ten minutes and the cypriots are very friendly. hence my return this year :D

I remember speaking to you about your karaoke exploits in the Zodiac davetraceyuk and now it looks like I'm heading out on Oct 8th as well, so I'll be able to hear you for myself!
