caits, we went half board. The first week was really good as we chose off the menu but the second week was buffet and it was really poor. Three types of meat, pasta, rice, potatoes, salad stuff and fruit for afters. Nothing for kids. Breakfasts were the usual full english with cold meats. The barbecue and carvery nights, twice a week, were real value for money at 13E per adult and 8E per child, as much as you can eat. I wouldn't recommend half board unless you know you are going to have menu choice. That is the only fault I had with the hotel.

samanddawn, I really didn't think think the entertainers were that bad, after all, not everyone goes on holiday to join in with silly stuff round the pool. People don't like being hassled to join in, which they respected. The two reps in question were only there till the end of May anyway, then they were getting transfered to Ayai Napa, had nothing to do with complaints, I sat with them one evening before we ate and they told me they were going to be reps for the twenty's crowd.

Just back 3 days ago from Rising Star, when we arrived entertainers were called *** & *** who were next to useless (bits of kids with no get up and go), they were dull, lazy and not very bright! and couldn't be bothered to try and involve people in activities.

I don't understand this because my brother and Sister-in-Law were staying at the Rising Star a few weeks ago and said that the entertainers were really good, their daughter has been telling her friends about them not stop since she returned home. I informed them today that they have moved on to Ayai Napa and she was really disappointed as she was so looking forward to seeing them again next year.

CMT, that sounds exactly what it was like 3 years ago when we went in the october, the first week you got to choose from menu as it was quiet and the second week it was buffet, will just wait and see when we get there, but will def try the special nights as they are good value.

CazzMick&Tom,
I think you'll find you agreed about the entertainment on your posting of 22nd May when you stated that 'there was no entertainment'.

If you are considering doing the boat trip from the beach by the hotel, the best value in Captain Panikos not the CocaCola boat. Captain Panikos trip lasts longer goes further and includes wine, juice and nibbles so was much better value than the CocaCola boat.

Hi brad/Ang

The boat trip last about 2 and a half hours but its a really nice afternoon out. Can't remember the exact prices but it was about €12 adults and €8 for kids, but this does include juice, wine, crisps, fruit & meatballs. Ask for Brummie, he might work a deal for you if you tell him it was recommended.

They pick you up outside the hotel, take you out to have a look at the deserted resort of famagusta and explain how it came to be uninhabitted, then you go back past the hotel again out to a secluded cove where you can jump off the boat and have a swim in the sea, they usually have a scuba diver on the boat who will let you have a go at scuba to look at this fishes! then they drop you off back at the hotel.

The hotel is really nice and now that the new entertainment team are there it is great fun if you want to join in. They don't pressurise anyone to join in and there are plenty of 'quieter' sunbeds if you want to sit and read a book.

One point worth mentioning.... there is very little storage space in the wardrobe and no draws as such. I bought something called a sweater store from John Lewis' (online) for £16 which is a hanging set of compartments that hangs over the wardrobe rail creating 'draws'. This meant that all the t-shirts, shorts etc could be put in here. When you're finished with it it folds flat for your suitcase. They used to also have these at some of the larger tesco stores for £3 but no sure if they still do them. I ended up with two but they were a god send!

if you want to know anything else let me know.

Enjoy

thankyou so much for all the usefull information :cheers I think we will do the boat trip it sounds lovely and my boys will love it did you find it any more expensive with the euro in. :tup

This was our first time in cyprus but having spoken to many people around the pool who had been going to cyprus for years they all seemed to think it was generally more expensive now that they have the Euro. Be careful in the shops as most of them still display both the new euro amount and the previous cypriot pound amount but it is not clear that it is cypriot pounds so it is easy to confuse it with pounds stirling. Its best to ignore the £'s and just work in €'s.

The name of this restaurant is the Nissiotis, one of our favourites with great food and very friendly staff. I do have a couple of photos but I can't figure out how to attach them to this message.

I think that's it, I thought the name was something like Nikosa, shame about the photo's as I'd like to see it just to confirm.
If you know how to attach them to an e-mail, send me a PM and I'll givee you my addy.
