Hi there. A few questions about Rome.
what is the best way to get from Fiumicino airport to Rome, our hotel is near the Termini.
Where is the best place to buy cigarettes in Rome, what are the smoking rules and can you smoke in the airport in the departures lounge?
Is St Peters open on a Sunday?
Thanks
Not many of them take credit cards though if you wanted to buy enough to bring home, the one on Piazza Navona does.
There was no smoking anywhere in Departures at Ciampino airport so I should imagine it will be the same at Fiumicino. In fact, there is no smoking at any restaurants either but they seem used to people just heading for the door for a ciggie.
Follow signs in the airport to the train terminal, buy a ticket GET IT STAMPED BEFORE BOARDING! this can be done by the machines on or near the platforms.
The train is direct to termini station, it is a bit of a walk from the platform to the main station concourse though.
need to book hotel accommodation and have narrowed it down to best western Universo which is near the termini or the Relais Piazza di Spagna which is on Via del Babuino 151, between the Spanish Steps and Piazza del Popolo.
Which would be the better of the two areas to stay in and which is the better of the two hotels for those that know them, although the relais is described as a townhouse.
Thanks
The second hotel and location are in much the same area as the first just up the road abit. Its nice enough around here aswell and you couldnt go far wrong, it is also pretty convienient.
I would personaly go for the first hotel as its an area i know better, also i think its slightly more convienient than the second (not a lot in though)
hope this helps
jessop you seem to know your stuff. can you advise me were to eat and if dress code in restaurants. also is there a fee for all places. also do hotels have leaflets etc on how to get to the various places of interest? am staying in domus romana which i think is close to spanish steps. leaving tonight so would like swift reply. thanks
Proably missed you then i would recomend going down to cavour metro station, down the steps and onto the small street lined with loads of restaurants, one in particular on the right walking away from the station, its quite small but well lit, the food is very cheap but the quality is the best ive tasted in a long time.
we are off to rome this w/end to watch the rugby any suggestions to find reasonable priced bars and restaurants around the city centre, thank you
Hi there, first thing to do is to not eat at any of the Piazza's as you'll pay top whack, try heading down some little side streets and you'll find lots of restuarants with special deals on. I don't know where your staying but we found that if we got the metro out of town a little way then you were getting a better class restaurant for a good price.
S'pose the only thing to say on the issue of bars, is dont expect pubs and bars like you get here in the UK.
where abouts are you staying johnny? some areas i know better then others and i might be able to recomend some places to eat and drink.
and arriving in rome centre by piazza della republbica.will be looking for a bar to watch italy v wales rugby and a nearby restaurant.
thanks
- what will the weather be like?
- what sort of clothes should i take? (i assume long sleeves, etc for the religious places)
Also, any tips much appreciated.
Just wondering if anyone can recommend any good priced flights from MAN to FCO. Cheapest I've seen is Jet2.
To answer the post before, the end of april will be lovely weather, not to hot but warm and sunny, i went once at the begining of may and most days the temperature was up to 26c although the evenings where cooler so a jumper or cardigan if you want to sit outside in the evening.
Also do take something to cover your sholders and legs when visiting churches, vatican etc, you wont get otherwise.
Hope this ehlps let me know if you need anymore info
hya were two 44 years young ladies looking for a quick break to rome probably july, what are the safer areas to stay? places to eat etc? cheers
We're going to Rome for the first time in July and I'm looking for some advice on nice places to eat... and drink. Nothing OTT expensive, but my main concern is finding somewhere that'll be suitable for myself being vegetarian.
We're staying B and B at Hotel Champagne Palace in the heart of the historic centre, not far from stazione Termini. We are considering hiring a car,but don't want to travel too far afield for meals out etc.,as we're planning on doing quite a bit of sightseeing in the area and want to fit as much of that in as possible during our break.
Thanks in advance for any recommendations.
Can i just say that i wouldnt recommend hiring a car in rome, it is a nightmare city to drive in/around, traffic is utter chaos and the italian style of driving is er pretty random. Also public transport is good and cheap especially the rail network.
Thanks for that. Have driven in Florence,Pisa etc. before and admit even that was a bit scary. Since we're going to be so near the railway station I feel we might now reconsider the car hire. Thanks again.
Walk down via cavour (away from termini) until you get to the metro (cavour station), walk down the steps to your right and you will find a small cobbled street with an irish pub on the left for a beer or 2 and then if you go up a few doors on the right hand side of the road you should find a small restaurant (seating is inside only which should help you to identify it) the food is ridicously cheap but very, very good its a little off the tourist track which i like as well. This place is where i eat a fair bit when over as its near to termini where i often stay.
Hope this helps a bit
