Can anyone recommend good, reasonably priced restaurants in Rome? Staying 10 mins walk City side of Termini station close to Via Nazionale/Piazza della Republica.
Thank you
Have posted a review on another site about the hotel we stayed last year, has directions to a couple of Restaurants that I don;t think will be too far from where you're stopping.

Sarah,
Thanks Sean very much appreciated. I'm off to Rome at the end of May so thanks for the review.
Also try restaurants around the market of Campo De Fiore - a couple of good restaurants there - especially the fish restaurant (sorry, can't remember the name!) and even going there in the morning is great for a wander around the market.....
I am looking at apartments in Rome for September, I have found a few promising ones, in particular one near St Peters Church, Vatican area. Does anyone know if this is a good location to stay in? Having never been to rome before I just wondered if it was still fairly central and walkable to the attractions on the other side of the river? We quite enjoy walking so I don't mind, as long as its not really really far!
Any comments would be welcome
Thanks
We stayed in a hotel in that area and I would say it's a good choice. We done all the sites but have to admit we used a bus some of the time. We did a tour one evening to get our bearings which took us to the trevi fountain etc and was worth it.
Add another fifteen minutes walking time for the Coliseum, Forum, Victor Emanuel etc and doing this everyday will soon get wearing.
Look for a place near to Navona and you'll get the best of both worlds.
Last time we went we stayed just off the Via Nationale HERE and found it handy for the latter sights but too far to walk for the Vatican.

Wherever you go enjoy your time in Rome.
Having said that i have to agree with the last post i would personally choose somewhere nearer the historic centre of rome as the vatican and st peters etc is kind of seperate from the rest of rome and believe me you will get fed up of having to use the metro system to get into town (noisy, smelly, crowded and pickpocket central!) to do anything.
hope this helps.
Like Harriers, we stayed off Via Nationale and walked everywhere with the exception of the Vatican city when got a taxi.
It's true that Rome is best seen on foot but if you "don't want to walk too far", then you'll find some of the sights too far if you stay where you propose.
Enjoy!
The apartment near the vatican was slightly nicer, but as you say, looked just a bit far out.
cheers
have a great time
Looking for a nice hotel or posssibly an apartment for 6 of us - 4 adults 40+ & 2 Teenage boys.
Want nice comfortable, pref family run place. Not too noisy, touristy, but fairly near things esp the stadium. Oh and not TOO pricey!!
A tall order I know but there must be a few hidden gems somewhere
Many thanks
Terri
Managed to get flights for all 4 of us to Rome in August. Could somebody help with accomodation. We would like to stay in the Rome area, somewhere between the coast and the city, so that we can have a couple of day trips to the city and the beach. We have two boys 13 and 11, and are looking for accomodation with a pool, poss tennis court etc. but not really kids clubs and not evening disco entertainment. Don't ask for much do I !! Any recommendations welcome.
The nearest beaches to rome are actually at a town called Ostia, i really wouldnt recomend these beaches though as the sea here is pretty grotty to be honest and i wouldnt be happy bathing there, also the sand is not very nice and is more grey than golden.
I would recomend you look for accomodation in rome city centre itself and then you can catch a train easily (transport is so much cheeper than here as well!) to get to the better beaches (clean crystal clear water perfect sand) to the south.
There are loads and loads of hotels in the city and i would look on expedia, opodo, etc for a deal incdently when in august are you going? It will be very, very, warm so take loads of sun cream as the temp is never much lower than 33c it can easily push 40+c on some days in the centre.
hope this helps
All the best.
didn't realise the good beaches were so far away. I have an autistic son, who is particulary keen to see the colleseum, but I don't think he could cope with staying in the city centre., the noise would be too much. How eay is it to stay in Sperlonga, and travel back to Rome for a couple of day trips?

I've been to Rome a couple of times and have found the website trav2rome fantastic to get bargains. Just Google the name and the site will come up. If you're looking for really cheap digs then the area around Termini is value for money - we were a little wary as it's next to the main Station and there are reports that it's seedy, but it's only like any other large city; with immigrants, travellers etc. I was sensible and kept my money etc safe, but we were never bothered or felt unsafe. We stayed at the Hotel Tokyo, right next to Termini - which we wanted because everything is downhill from there (plenty of buses back as well!) and the food etc is cheap in the area. Not for everyone, I know, but for a budget trip, you can't beat it.
Rome from 22nd July to 4th August 2006. Thank you for any information Vitus
