Ryanair often block off the front and back rows at the start of the flight. This is due to calculation of 'lift' - ie the number of people and their luggage due to be on the flight and the amount of avgas needed. I believe that you may be allowed to sit in the front row after take off and during the flight but have to return to your seat on landing.

The blocking of 1 row front or rear wouldn't make any difference to the lift of the aircraft so it's not for that reason. Calculations for fuel are based on weight, flight length and required reserves rather than balance. Passenger moving in to these rows inflight will have no bearing on fuel burn. If a flight has a low load factor, ie not many people then balance (trim) becomes an issue so people maybe moved to trim the aircraft. The aircraft has to be within strict limits of trim before it can take off. An aircraft out or trim will use more fuel due to drag and could be unstable. There have been accidents attributed to aircraft out of trim. Blocking one row forward or aft on a full flight wouldn't make any difference.

PS (anorak on): Jet (turbine) aircraft use Jet-A, not avgas (piston engines mainly although turbines can run on it)

On the RyanAir flights we've taken, we were told to 'sit anywhere except rows 1-6'.
The back rows were available.

We always board from the rear for the reason Alsacienne gives.

ryanair block off seats as Dazbo says, but row 1 is emergency exit so they do not block that off. they put the food trays down on the next block of seats(row 2 to wherever) to show passengers that these rows cannot be used.
they do let you move there after take off, but insist you go back to your own seat for landing.
re parents with children, if they have purchased priority boarding then they join the priority queue at the boarding gate the same as everyone else. they do not get any priority treatment from ryanair just because there are kids in the party.as with everything on ryanair, if you want anything you pay for it.

Thanks for the correction! I love planes and am always keen to learn more ............... I think I was the only Girl Guide in the county in a certain year to get her plane spotters badge ..... and was tested by my physics teacher .......... and goodness, making my own anemometer gave me a heck of a load of problems!!

If you booked through an internet website like OTBEACH.COM for example then you will need to get their email address to access your account and give API.

Hi Johndoe

I have just accessed the site via this link: http://www.ryanair.com/site/EN/
and then clicked on Advanced Passenger Information under 'My Flight' on the left hand side. I didn't have any problem then entering my flight reference etc and gaining access to the API area.

Maybe its an intermittent fault?

Jojo.

So what happened to the 100ml liquid rule? How did this very dangerous mushroom soup get on to the aircraft!

Perhaps if Mr. O'Leary had not introduced charges to check-in luggage and forced passengers to bring as much as possible into the aircraft to cram into the overhead lockers he would not now be sitting with a bill for the aircraft to make an unscheduled landing in Germany.

(P.S. also hope the passenger is OK!)

I bet O'Leary and his gang have got some get-out clause/underwritten insurance so they won't have to pay the landing fees ............... or perhaps he'll slap on an extra anti-toxin charge to everyone's ticket and profit from this unfortunately incident.

Mind you I too am rather mystified as to how the soup actually got on to the aircraft with the intense security that is supposed to be in force concerning hand baggage .............. unless they were magic mushrooms - or am I the only senior member to have heard of these before ........... :D

ive just emailed the BBC on the subject of where and who brought this so called soup on board, ive never seen a shop airside that sells soup, and to be honest since 7/11 ive never trusted the director with his security issues :yikes

Ryanair has announced the termination of two of its routes from Cork Airport. Escalating fuel costs and a 20% increase in charges at Cork are blamed for the ending of its services to East Midlands and Prestwick from 26th and 28th October respectively.

Regarding the mushroom incident, there are differing versions of the story in the media. Some say it was a leaking container of soup, others say that it was a jar of mushrooms, while some say that it was a bag of frozen mushrooms which began defrosting, dripping juice on the passenger and contaminating the air conditioning system.

Surely the leaking liquid (was it brought through security or purchased after security) is not so much a Ryanair question but an airport security one, and could happen to any airline.

That's correct, airlines have no responsibility or duty to examine the contents of hand luggage.
