Hi Cyber,It sounds like you've got a room with 4 single beds, - possibly one of the rooms with the partition. so you should be ok. Might be worth giving the hotel a ring nearer the time to confirm. They speak excellent English. The brochure was probably wrong as I don't know of any rooms that have got 2 x double beds.
Hope this helps,
Mick

I was there last summer and the room had 2 double beds.

It still says "2 double beds" in the latest edition brochure, and also in the latest Portland brochure.
We don't go until August, so I'll wait until the reviews start coming in from May onwards, and see what other people say. When do you think I should phone them to confirm our bed arrangements? Would it be wise to contact them early season, or should I wait until 3-4 weeks before we go?

To be on the safe side, I would say phone them ealy in the season, = sort of May - June time. They are really helpful when you phone them and will do everything they can to help you.

what is the best way to get money.i usually take cards with me, but have read there are no atms by the hotel.would it be better to take travellers cheques this time.
really looking forward to going in august.

The nearest cashpoint is in San Miguel village, - about 7 or 8 euros return in a taxi. The hotel will change travellers cheques and there is a bureau de change just across the road from the hotel.
If you want to buy trips from Thomsons they take cards as do the trip operator over the road from the hotel.
Personally I've always taken cash and used the safety deposit box in the room with a hole in the wall card as a back up.
Hope this helps.

Hi 8)

I personally wouldn't rely on the ATM in San Miguel as your main source of cash. We've been twice to the San Miguel Hotel, and on the few occassions I've needed the ATM, it wasn't working, apparently it's quite tempremental!! Luckily we had a car and managed to get cash further afield. We have usually taken cash and kept it in the safe in the room, but depending on how much you're taking, a mixure of cash and travellers cheques could be the best option 8)

I haven't used travellers cheques for years!!! I thought they were being phased out in favour of the new 'top-up' style payment cards. This will be our first time in San Miguel - I'll have to buy some travellers cheques (don't like having too much cash) and use my credit card to pay for trips. If I don't use all my travellers cheques I can save them for my winter holiday to Tenerife.
I know San Miguel is a small resort, but it can't be that much trouble for a Spanish bank to provide a cash machine at one of the hotels?

thanks for the advice.
for those who have stayed at this hotel before, how much money do you think we will need for 10 days

Hi trasjohno, It really does depend on what you want to do, if you stay at the resort then all you will need is money for basic things, such as bottled water, sweets, phone calls home ( cheaper then using yer mobile ) cigarettes or tabaco, ( if you smoke ) Plus gifts for everyone at home... On my very first trip i only spent £22.00 but i did go by myself... Now when i go there is normally 6 of us so i go over the top and take about £1,500.00 but that is because we do alot & go places, my 2 daughters only take £200 each but still have good fun, mind you they do tend to sponge off me. It really is a great resort, you can leave your money in your hotel safe and not need a penny to have fun... Hope this helps, if not there are plenty of San miguel veterans who will be more than pleased to help.....

I took £300 with me last year and got a further £200 out of the hole in the wall. I came home with about £40. This included breakfast at Gatwick, drinks on the plane, trip in a taxi round to Portinax with lunch and drinks out there, three visits to the local pub for the footie. A ride on the mini train and glass bottom boat, inflatables for the pool + buckets and spades. And those disgusting things called cigarettes, (we both smoke). Then of course sweets for the two kids, newspapers, bott;es of wine and water for the room etc.
So really it all depends on what you want to do. A family of four that we met last year spent less than £200, - being non smokers and didn't really leave the complex.
Need any more info don't hesitate.

I am going to the San Miguel hotel for the first time in July.Does anyone know roughly how much a taxi from the airport is likely to cost? Also like the idea of the mini train that runs from the hotel, how far does this go and what is the cost please?
Reply
It'll probably be about 50 - 60 euros each way from the airport. The mini train does different trips on different days. Can't remember the price but it was very reasonable and is a pleasant way to spend 3+ hours. You get to see a lot of the countryside and some villages and different resorts. You stop off for a drink a couple of times and have time for a swim at the resort you go to.
Tip get to the starting point (across the beach outside the supermarket) half hour before the leaving time as it does get full up quite quickly.

Another good thing about the mini train is that the resorts that you visit have cash points so you can combine the trip with getting money if you need it. But make sure you have enough cash for the fare as they don't take cards.

Cathliamluke - taxi cost us 35 euros each way last year which was the cheapest so far - think it was about 40 euros the previous year (new road outside of Ibiza town may have cut the journey time slightly?).

It is a few years since we went on the mini train but think the cost is around 12 euros for adults, less for children. Well worth it as it is a very nice morning or afternoon trip.

Thanks very much for your replies.Does the train run every day then? Also am I right in thinking the journey from the airport takes just over half an hour???
Reply
I think the train runs 3 days a week - twice on each day, - not 100% sure, but certainly not every day. The journey by coach from the airport is about half an hour, depending if other people are being dropped off at different resorts. The 3 times I have been the longest was about 40 minutes and last year was 25 mins.

Hello Everyone

Please can anyone help me with a couple of questions?

I am thinking of booking the San Miguel for a week's holiday in August for 2 adults and 1 child aged 10 years old.

I have got a quote from Thomson but they want to charge us £1800  just for a week.

I am really interested in doing a DIY as I can get flights for all 3 of us for £250. :D

Can anyone advise me who I can book with directly? I have done a search and I seem to be getting San Miguel Park / Esmeralda Mar Hotel is this the same place?

I have also checked out sanmiguelresort website but it looks as if I can only book the Galeon.

Also is it better to stay in the hotel or get an apartment? We would like to be based near the entertainment and main pool if possible.

Also if I was to book direct would my daughter still be able to use the kids club?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Fayth
