We used to get the bus to Paguera- buses and taxis go from the main square (or roundabout!) near the beach. Paguera is a beach resort just a bit further west than Santa p. Calvia and Andratx we did by taxi, but got the bus back. One trip I haven't done but would like to, is the train from Palma to Soller through the orange groves.

How far is it to Paguera( I really should get a map out ) We did a trip last year that went on the Soller train jorurney and we really liked it. But you don't want to keep doing the same things.

Hi everyone!

I lived in Santa Ponsa between the ages of 6 and 18, I'm now 20...

Anyway, like many people have said, in Feb Santa Ponsa is absolutely DEAD! But I have put my thinking cap on and thought of some places you should check out!

The Jardín De Playa hotel is near at the top end of Santa Ponsa, next to the 'Square' which isn't open during the winter, but if you have kids and go in the summer, make sure you take them there! Live shows every night, lots of bars and things to do! As I said, it's only open in the summer season (May - October-ish).

Someone mentioned eating at the El Ceibo Restaurant - It is famous all over the island for it's steaks. Honestly, make sure you check it out! You might want to book a table if you go at the weekend though, as it gets very busy with locals! Their number is 971 69 40 36.

If you want something to do, pop into Palma Nova as there will be more open there. Although not loads!

Palma has lots to see and do if you plan to go there?

There is a large(ish) shopping centre called Porto Pí, which has some traditional spanish shops...

There's loads more places, if you want some more advice or info, I'd be glad 2 help! My e-mail is *****

Have a great holiday!

Hi im heading out to Santa Ponsa for a week with 3 mates on the 12th of Aug, I've never been there before.

Any one been :?: What's it like :?: Will it be busy at this time :?:

I like Santa Ponsa so much that I've bought a house there. Yes, it can be rather quiet in the winter but it's a tad up-market from Magaluf and Palma Nova but not sterile like Bendinat or full of high-class tarts like Portals.

However, I recommend a car wherever you stay in Mallorca, since there are so many wonderful places to visit but public transport is variable and the cost of taxis soon mounts up. From Santa Ponsa you're only 12 minutes drive into Palma, which is a fabulous city catering for all tastes. A similar journey will take you to one of the Sunday Times' Top Twenty European beaches close to Magaluf. In an hour or so you can be on the magnificently wild Es Trenc naturist beach. Fifteen minutes takes you to the start of a beautiful walk to Galilea from Son Font, just north of Calvia, where you can also horse-ride. All of these places are just that much more accessable with a car.

I spend a lot of time in Santa Ponsa and am starting a group for local gay men, holiday visitors and summer workers. I'd like to organize a regular weekly venue so if any chaps in or around Santa Ponsa and Calvia would like to help, have suggestions or simply want to meet up with other locals please contact me in the usual manner. This discussion thread could also be used to provide local information, so please add your comments. I'm also quite keen to set up a dedicated SPG website; if anyone has the skills to help set this up I'd be very pleased to hear from you.

You'll love it. Very warm, countryside at its best, not too crowded, sea just about warm enough for swimming, beach pristine, plenty of restaurants, shops, bars and clubs open. Have a great time!

Thanks, that puts my mine at ease a bit

Hi

I'm off to Santa Ponsa on the 17th August with a friend and four kids (oh well you can dream  ).

Where are you staying - we're going to the Pionero Hotel. Never been to Santa Ponsa before, so watching your replies with interest!

It will be very busy at that time. All the clubs and bars will be in full swing, the beach packed (but with plenty of space - not like sardines!)
and everyone having a ball...

The only downside is that you may have to queue to get a table at the best restaurants (try L'Ouest, Mason Del Rey, Savantry at El Torro, Saint Joan at Calvia or Mediterranea In Palma - the last three can be a tad pricey but are worth it - ask for their Menu Del Dia).

Do take the opportunity to explore other parts of the island if you can.

Hi

Going to Santa Ponsa in August. Can anyone give me any information on the Hotel Pionero please.

Also, wheres the 'Square' in relation to the hotel and is there a 'best' night to visit :?:

Thanks
Carol :D

Carol the square is a good half hours walk from the hotel uphill most of the way there, but downhill back - which is handy after a few drinks!.
You would come out of the hotel entrance and turn right, go past the Santa Ponsa Park to the end of the road, turn right again, straight to the top to the water feature in the middle of the road. Take the road on the left and stay on this path for quite a walk all the way to the square.
You won't miss it and its a good night out. The best thing to do is go and have a look quite soon in your holiday because they have a billboard at the entrance telling you which tribute acts are on on what night for the whole week, so you can take a look at who you fancy and go back on that night. Then on the way back after your night out stop and have a kebab from the man on the seafront, they were very nice.
The hotel also does hot dogs/burgers/chips and some puddings/cakes late at night in the restaurant which is included in the all-inclusive.
Anything else you want to know just ask

Hi Amandawaters I have been to the Jardin del playa a number of times, they are in a good location near to the square. The appartments are ok the kitchen is basic but you do not go on holiday to stay in the apartment. There is a good place to eat a short walk away called the royal garden it serves good food steak, pasta piza etc and also had good entertainment.Hope you have a good holiday
