Winterpansy:It will be like when you came in mid october with no shacks but with more people if that makes sense?...sunbeds are out and the "private shacks" that you probably saw mid-october will be open...some of the temporary shacks are trying to "make do" with some lmited food and drinks but it's definitly not the same for the majority of people who come to spend time in their favourite shacks. :(

Thanks for info Spaldy, Sounds great ,we arrrive mid dec so hopefully find somewhere to lie - not worried for any particular shack .But hope they sort it soon for the tourists who want 'their' shack :sun2

Winterpansy: If your not bothered which shack you use it's no problem really, there are some open but obviously nowhere near the normal amount. More space and plenty of sunbeds. :sun2
Think it's more of a blow for people who head for certain shacks they have been using previous years.

Well that sounds good to me.

Not bothered about using the shack we know. As long as I can get a drink, shade and a nice meal I'll be happy. :tup

Been for walk along Candolim beach this morning, and all the Shacks are being built, they had a meeting last night with MLA and he has given them the go ahead to build and they reckon on being up for business within days as they are using more people in the construction than normal years.

Re the previous post, I,d say that walking from Sinquerm to the Calangute steps todaythere's only a small percentage actively building, our shack owner reckons they are crazy taking the chance of the wreckers arriving. Everyone is getting desperate however, and I expect more and more will take a chance and start building in the next few days, as waiting for the Delhi mob could take forever

It certainly is starting to look like deliberate delaying tactics, the speed with which this issue got to the high court in Dehli was unusually fast as these issues normally take ages.
For the court to keep postponing the hearing on a weekly basis would now be normal Indian practice.
I agree with Gramps' friend, that those who build their shacks regardless are taking a high risk of a visit from the demolition squad - its happened many times before.
If there is a sinister motive behind these delays, then enforcement will likely be swift and brutal!

As i said before the shack owners will be adding more and more each day to their shack to get it somewhere near normal ( and i don't blame them) but i think it won't be long before the "men in brown" are down there with a lorry to take what they can away and purposely smashing the wood of the shacks in the middle so it's of no use again. Another sorry sight for everyone to watch again.

A Goverment Minister was reported in the press here recently as stating that" if there was a Nobel Prize for filth India would win hands down" I'd suggest if they awarded a Nobel Prize for ruining a tourist industry Goa would win by a mile

The Shacks at the end of Candolim Beach Road have all poles up and roofs erected and hope to be open from Wednesday 2nd December, looks like the christmas rush, to lose xmas and new year would be a major money loss, with all the parties and firework nights over the holiday period, but they are worried that the authorities may take action similar to last year when some shacks where destroyed, so its wait and see what happens.

the high court has again delayed a ruling until friday 4th december

I've watched this topic with some interest but selfishly always thought it won't affect me cos I'm not going till Jan 11th. Time is ticking away and the problem still hasn't been resolved :que. Hopefully the shacks WILL be up in time for our visit.

Just got back today so I will be brief as am knackered. The shack situation has not resolved itself yet but we had no problem getting a bed and shade and food.

It is a strange sight looking down the bottom of beach road and seeing lines of sunbeds with not a shack in sight.

Some owners further up in Calangute are confident the situation will soon be resolved and have started building the shacks.

There seems to be an air of sad resignation among everyone. As if there is nothing they can do.I think they are hoping a really busy Christmas will save them.

I have taken some photos and as soon as I have got back to normal will try to post them.

Everyone is holding their breath and waiting for the Delhi Courts deliberations on Friday. The vast majority hav'nt tried starting to build, and I've got a feeling that if there was another delay they would'nt be surprised. Most shacks have put up tempoary structures with tables and chairs and offer a limited food service. Your order is taken into the sand dunes, and appears later, to be sure I'm not sure what goe's on there, but so far no adverse effects !!!

Ventured to the beach yesterday just to have a look,i would say the majority of shacks are up but "poles and roofs" are all they are..just a shade canopy really, bit like sitting in a gazebo in your garden!
Maybe there will be a resolve tomorrow but according to the couple of shack owners that i know they don't seem to think so. As they said it's not a problem with the courts it's a problem between themselves,so they really haven't done themselves any favours.
Personally i'm not sure it's somewhere i would choose to eat without them having all the amenities up and running.
One thing i will say it was nice and peacefull without all that crap music they have blasting out!
So all i all i would say it's a bit bettter down there now, just need to thin out the amount of shacks and it would be nice if they gave the beach a good clean up.

Just back from Candolim on the 29thNov. As we left still no nearer on the shack issue. On Friday 27th, some who had put up bits of shelter had to pull them down even though they were just for storing things. Beaches not as clean as in the past as no shacks having people to clean their area down to the beds. Cows coming onto the beach had always to go to the back of shacks for waste food but with no shacks they are moving around sunbeds for food from bags. Spoke to lots of people who were there for two weeks holiday saying never again in November. While there for three weeks I was reading the paper every day with regards to the shacks. The only people who never got a mention was the tourist. Also when are they ever going to make something half decent for us to walk on at the sides of the main road. :que :que

The answer to your question bonsky, probably never!! I've been down there again today as i have friends here at the mo. The bottom of Holiday Street looks like Mumbai slums to be honest, there's rubbish and wood all over the place. It looks a mess...Still prefer it without all the music blarring out though!
