Last September in La Carihuela (Torremolinos) we had a really rough day with the sea raging, this was the back-end from a storm happening somewhere...
The next day the sea was like a mill pond and not even a wave, but all that stretch of coast was full of floating wooden crates, palm trees and soil, which had obviously been lost off a tanker out at sea....it really did make a mess of the stretch of beach and you had to wade in the sea passed all the floating debris.

Not so much strange as a case of mistaken identity! A couple of summers ago an old friend came to stay with me and was really keen to see the seals I'd mentioned were very common sights off my local beaches. One evening we were walking along the beach I live by when she very excitedly pointed out to sea and said 'S, S, look at that huge seal swimming across the bay!' I knew her sight was poor but not that it was that bad and I had to point out that that was no seal, that was a man in a wetsuit! This being the East coast of Scotland, one of the neighbours habitually wore a full wetsuit, including hood, for his twice daily swims even in summer!

We later visited a beach on the other side of the firth where I was sure that we would be guaranteed a sight of seals swimming off the beach and sure enough we did - loads of them in groups, their little black heads gently bobbing on the tide, just off the shore and looking intently inland at all the people on the beach for the whole of its nearly 3 mile length! Ever since then, I've entertained the fantasy that during the long summer days we get up here, that the seals say to each other on sunny Sunday afternoons 'Let's go to Tentsmuir and look at the humans - this fine weather is bound to bring them out on to the beach in their droves!' Talk about 'Looking at me, looking at you!'

I had a simular sighting to Jay last month in Bavaro, Dom Rep. We had an afternoon of really heavy storms and I took an opportunity to take pictures at the beach which looked amazing, the sea was as flat as paper against the dark sky. The beach was derserted all but for a handful of people sheltering in makeshift sunbed houses however a couple about 5 foot out in the water were taking advantage of the quiet! They know I was stood there clicking away with the camera but still carried on :yikes :tup Hubby was most dissappointed I did not take a picture of them :think
