Joolz - most definately female  :!:

After having my daughter and giving up smoking (which I am sooooo chuffed about) I piled on the pounds. That was 3 years ago and I still have'nt fully recovered  I might go down to 1400 cals but I think 1200 might not be enough due to my size (although as I mentioned is 8lb smaller now). I think its an encouragement thing. Hubby is good but he doesnt give spontaneous encouragement/compliments. You have to push him for them :) Anyway back to the diet - weigh tomorrow so fingers crossed for a result :gluck

well done on the giving up smoking. I also gained about 2 stone when I gave up (also about 3 years ago)

I think your right about the calories, to lose weight women should eat about 1500 calories a day, and try and eat as much fruit and veg as poss.

I have gone down the fewer calories route, to the point where I was only eating one meal a day and I didnt lose weight, its true when they say the less you eat the more your body conserves, it does go into starvation mode and makes it way more difficult!

:gluck with the weigh in, I do mine on wednesdays!

Hi Girls :wave
Nice to see everyone back (including me  )

How has everyone done today?? I have just finished my SW roast dinner and i had strawberries, banana and mullerlight drizzled over it for afters (banana and custard flavour) YUM YUM!!!! Sitting here stuffed.

Elvis can i just ask why you wont eat carbs after 7pm? I am doing SW too and i eat what ever i want and never give myself a time limit. Do you find you lose more this way. I have been doing slimming world since 99 on and off (not slimming worlds fault, I just have NO willpower most of the time) I dont have any trouble shifting the weight its keeping it off, thats my BIGGEST problem.(maybe some day i will learn  honest  )

Joolz I didnt know you booked for beni for next year. We went there 2 yrs ago (just me and hubby) and we had a great time. We stayed at the melia benidorm it was gorge.

I really need to get my s**t together with this diet lark cos i dont want to sink the ship when me and hubby go on our cruise (going to gain enough when we are on it, as we go AI) Believe me i can eat and drink for England. We go in november so that gives me 14 weigh in's (got to account for a blip cos of my friends wedding at the end of sept oh and the hen night of course) I would loved to have lost 2st by the time the cruise came along but i think not, as i dont have the time left but saying that i will try to behave myself to see what i can get off. :gluck to the girls that weigh in tomorrow. I shall pop back tomorrow to see how you got on.
Bye for now

You shouldn't eat carbs after 7 p.m. because if they are not burnt off they will turn to fat.

I've given up smoking. :D Read Allen Carr's book (okay so he's recently been diagnosed with lung cancer but he did give up 23 years ago and reckons if he hadn't have done he'd have died years ago).

Erm, this is the mantra - 'I am Free!!!!'. :D

And there will be no weight gain because there will be no substitutues for the ciggies. :D

Its not about substuting something for the cigarettes. I didnt eat any more when I gave up smoking. I chewed "fat free" gum when I had a craving. However, apparently there is a chemical in cigarettes (several actually) that have something to do with disolving the fat and not letting it settle (Im not a scientist but it is true, though I cant remember the exact terms  ). And anyway, smoking surpresses the appetite - hence having a cigarette instead of eating when you think you are hungry ..... :) Anyway, good luck with the non-smoking. If I can do it anyone can :)

As far as diet goes - lost 2lbs :yipee . Despite the bad night on Saturday. Do want to get under the stone mark (which now is only another 2lbs) but dont want to stop then and will continue until I feel better and those clothes that I refused to give away "just in case" will fit again  Well you never know

i too have given up smoking ( and Rob did too) and he has managed to lose weight as he has cut down drastically on the beer too. I am still struggling to shift the weight though...i would like to get 1 1/2 stone off by November.....good luck to everyone else..

Well all I know is that years ago when I did stop for 2.5 years I was my thinnest ever, because I kept myself busy to not think about the weed and consequently got hooked on exercise.

I firmly believe that for me personally smoking decreases my energy and I probably even eat and drink more because of it as it's an excuse to have a ciggie. It makes me lazy.

Then you are probably one of the lucky ones that my GP told me about. I used patches to assist me and I remember one of the warnings she told me about was that "most" people generally add at least 2 stone after giving up smoking. Unfortunately, I was one of the "most" people. I did quit after I my daughter was born ( :no ) so I think it was probably a combination of both. I try not to use the "gave up smoking" line as an excuse for my weight problem. We are what we are and for some its easier than others. :)

I am losing the weight slowly (which apparently is the best way) and hopefully will be at - for me - an acceptable size/weight for my holiday in 3½ weeks time as I only want to shift another couple of lbs :sun Good luck to everyone. :gluck

Yeah, I'm just having a positive mental attitude at the moment. Which is a good thing. :D

positive mental attitude is a MUST! I always find that when Im on a high from losing some weight, or going down a dress size I dont crave chocolate, or my particular "bad food" chinese, anyone else find that too??

I did really well today, went for a meeting with lunch provided and I didnt eat a single cake, sat and ate my way through the plate of fruit instead, so Im well chuffed with myslef today. :D

in response to an earlier question, the reasonI dont eat carbs is as Jackie said, you dont tend to burn them off late at night.

Well done to all you losers :yipee
I am looking forward to getting weighed on wed as i have been good this week (for a change  )

The smoking issue i always thought people gained weight because they missed the hand to mouth action but now i know better.

The reason i asked about not eating carbs after 7pm is because i sometimes eat really late at night and when on a green day it is all about carbs, potatoes, pasta, rice ect. ( slimming world) I have never had a problem with losing weight doing this (just keeping it off as i said) cos i go back to my old eating habits (chinese is a big fav of mine too) but i think if my weight loss really starts to slow down i will do what you girls suggested and give it a whirl.

Again well done girls on your weight loss.

i haven't posted for a while as there was nothing good to say about my weight...i have not lost any despite trying really hard...and i have decided that i resemble the good year blimp

so today i start again trying to be more positive (especially as yesterday at a family gathering i avoided all the cakes and just had one piece of chicken breast and some salad..) and hopefully, i will lose a couple of lbs this week. i desperately want to shift 1 1/2 stone by the time we go on holiday in 10 weeks...

good luck to everyone else..

Hello everyone. Well done, congrats and good luck to all. :)

I lost a measly half a lb on wed

Alsbaby - its better than putting the half lb on :!: Well done.

I managed to lose 1lb this week. (That means only 1lb away from the whole stone mark and 2lb away from under the stone mark (my way of making me feel better  )). I have 2½ weeks to go before I am off on my holidays so I want to hit and break that stone marker. Its a shame that I still cant fit comfortably (although I can do them up now :) ) into those nice brown cropped trousers I purchased last year and have never worn  . Oh well, maybe ill have an amazing weight loss over the next couple of weeks so finger crossed :gluck
