Hey, has anyone stayed at the Hyatt Regency, in Taba Heights does anyone know the resort, just booked yesterday, and am now looking at reviews and people say about it is relaxing and away from it all, which is just what I want, but I'd like to know more about the area of Taba itself.

Could someone tell me a bit more about what is actually at or what isn't at Taba, and like which shops in the hotels is best value to buy from, and how far it is to walk from the hotels, and how to get to the other hotels.

If anyone has a map of Taba they could give me the link to, I'd be very greatful, so I get a better idea of the resort itself.

Also any general tips about the hotel or the resort, would be greatly appreciated.

Another thing sorry, can you buy like biscuits or crips and things like if you fancy a lunch snack from any of the shops, and soft drinks just general things, if so which shop in Taba is it best to go to.

Can't give a personal opinion - but a guy from work went last July. Said if he went back to Egypt he would definintely go there again - so good there was no point risking anything else. And he'll be there again with his family in July.

First time to Egypt became a bit of a theme at work last year - this summer second time in Egypt seems quite popular...

I've been before and am heading back out on the 7th April. Staying at the Hyatt Regency again.

There isn't a whole lot to do in the hotel apart from eat, drink, sunbathe and snorkel. Nice and relaxing. There is a shop but it tends to be expensive and the guy that runs it is a miserable sod. I've heard that the shop in the Mariott is slightly better, but then thats not hard.

The resort itself is made up of a number of hotels, with the Hyatt IMO being the best of the lot. The golf course is yet to have any serious work done on it, and I think the cinema and main casino are still on hold.

For a map you could try http://www.tabaheights.com not very detailed but it does show how the entire resort is laid out.

For any half decent shopping you need to get a cab to the border and go to Eilat, but then you have the hassle of the crossing which can take a bit of time.

All in all I love the place, and would definitely recommend it. Make sure you stock up on duty free in the UK, even take some duty paid stuff (not sure if you can though).

Taba Heights is simply 50 km north of the centre of the universe, the heaven of all paradise....

We were at the Hyatt in November, as the shop if very expensive, I would suggest you should take Pringles with you. We bought a box of wine at Manchester airport and use to take a glass of wine on our balcony.

Fabulous hotel but the drinks are expensive.

Is the crossing from egypt to israel open at taba? i thought they'd stopped it for a while???

It was open in March. Be prepared for a long wait going into Israel though. The checks are something else.

I don t think it ever closed. Its been open all this year thats for sure. I know a couple of people who live in Eilat but commute over to Taba almost everyday for work.

I wasn't really sure if it was closed.

used to work in Eilat and thinking of coming to dahab/neiwaba at christmas and popping over to israel to see some friends.

Hi everyone, im new to this forum and would just like a bit of ansight into what there is to do from Taba. I am stayin at the Hyatt in September and was wondering if anyone could tell me what trips are available and roughly how much they cost. Also we would like to scuba dive and have never done it before. Is is possible to dive out there for the first time? thanx

Having never stayed in Taba, I can't help you out on prices. But there are trips you can do to Eilat, St Caths monestary, coloured and white canyons etc.

As for diving, just about every dive centre does a discover scuba course for beginners. Takes a day normally, watching a video, basic training in the pool (or sea if shallow enough), then a dive from the shore or boat (12m max). Well worth a try.

I'm off to the Hyatt Regency in Taba on the 9th July. Would like to do a few trips but would it be cheaper to organise them ourselves rather than through the tour company?

Is a taxi to Eliat and then entry to dolphin reef cheaper than the excursion?

How about going to the dead sea? How long does it take and how much?

How lond does the bus take from taba to Dahab? and how much would we expect to pay.

I have looked at other messages on here and not seen one about plugs, are the pug sockets just the standard european travel adaptors or do we need a special one of some kind.

Also I was thinking about something to do, and wondered could we take our laptop with us and at least have something to play a few games on if we do happen to get bored. Is this a good idea or do you not recommend taking this, I'm staying at the Hyatt but am still not sure about security and everythng like that.

Where is the best cheapest place to go for lunch, which hotel or bar, and what do you get for your money?

And the waterworld shuttle bus will there be a times list and notice saying where it picks you up from? Does the driver speak english, so when you ask to be dropped at the garage is it easy to communicate or do you have to explain what you want?

Also the walk back from the garage is it straight forward, i'd hate to take a wrong turning and end up stranded in some desert lol

And last but not least, the cigarettes and wine, we are taking wine boxes, but is it better to get some from gatwick and what is your limit? And ciggarettes in taba from the garage or airport where is the small duty free shop in the airport? do they sell menthol ciggarettes over there as my mum smokes them and wants me to bring some cheap ones back for her!

You need a standard northern European adaptor, available from Boots if you don't have one.

No reason not to take your laptop except for the security issue of a fairly large item which would apply to wherever you go. Personally I can't imagine being bored enough to need one in Egypt!

Taba is a very small airport and I have not seen anyone asked regarding limits of alcohol or cigarettes in four visits. I have never seen menthol cigarettes for sale in Egypt.

Can't help with your other questions as I haven't stayed at the Hyatt.
