Hi , you can use either sterling or charge to your on-board account for the casino , there is a cashier you go to and he will give you a chit (credit note) which you can exchange for chips at your table of choice , it's a small casino and usually pretty busy , they have roulette (where i lose my money ) , blackjack and Poker as well as a number of slots.
We go on the 3rd of July for two weeks , so we'll be on our 2nd week when you arrive and we're doing Monte Carlo from Villefranche during our first week , so can't comment on that particular excursion you are planning , the general consensus seems to be that they are over-priced but well organsied , plus if you go with an organised Thomson excursion the ship won't leave without you should it be delayed , not so if your on your own and get held up !!!
We were on the Destiny last year for a week , enjoyed it that much we've booked for two weeks this year - can't comment on your deck as we are down in the bowels of the ship in order to keep costs down for a family of 4 - you'll find you spend very little time in your cabin.
Hope you enjoy your trip and who knows tyou might bump into an old 40-something jock moaning about losing at the roulette table (again )
hahahahaha I'll probably be losing with you, I'm a sucker for roulette.
As previouse post said you will have a great time the Monaco trip is great I would also recommend Pompeii its hard work but worth it Barcelona can be done on the 'big bus' which will drop you off at all major places of interest inc the neu camp (if that's how you spell it) Ajaccio you can walk into town and visit the Bonaparte museum.
Been on deck 6 outside we think its a good spot for access to all parts, inside cabins are twin beds which doesn't give much room for cases suggest you take soft ones to go under bed or ask staff to put them away for you,
Defiantly no irons or smoking in cabins and they can check!!!!
Drinks are reasonable. Entertainment fantastic, food great but too much.
Casino you buy chips at the table with sterling and poker plus many others are played.Any other info required just ask
Roger
What is the bed situation in the cabins, are they doubles or singles in deck 6? Can you push them together if they are single?
Yet another question - going on the Moorish Delights, so what currency will we need for Casablanca, Tangiers etc, will it be like Tunisia, where they have a closed currency???
Any info grateful.
Hi jack535
How much spends would you advise taking for the 7 days?
We are on full board so as far as I gather we get food and water free but have to pay for soft drinks/alcohol?
With this is mind we should only need money for trips/drinks/casino
I was guessing around €400 and £400 sterling... would this be about right for 7 nights or would we need more?
Thanks
Not that much to be honest. The ship is entirely cashless - you get a weekly account and everything is charged to your credit/debit card at the end, so you won't need any cash for the ship or any trips arranged by Thomson. We didn't take any sterling at all, there simply is no way of spending it. The only foreign currency you will need is for spending off the ship so work on that basis. Just as a tip - we have a Nationwide account and got a much better rate of exchange by drawing cash out at an ATM than we did by buying currency beforehand. Nationwide don't charge any fees for withdrawals either, but you might want to check with your own bank before you go (or open one with Nationwide just for overseas holidays)
Would agree with milamember but if you are on a cruise which takes in Gib take some sterling as you get better deals and i know you don't have to tip but a few euros my be usfull.

...I've taken mine five times on Destiny and have used it every single time and have left it in my cabin and never had it confiscated either.
But that doesn't mean you should do it! Just be careful not to get caught and only use it for essentials. I always take a small spray bottle, fill it up with water on arrival and spray all the creases in my clothes before hanging them in the wardrobe - 95% of the creases drop out in the first day or two. For everything else there's the travel iron!
Personally I would like anyone found using one taken off ship at next port, along with anyone trying to smoke in their cabin.
Fire is the single most dangerous life threatening thing that can happen on board a cruise ship and consequences too terrible to contemplate.
I love cruising but worry about mentality of some other passengers I travel with! For everyone who thinks "well I am careful" there is another one who perhaps means to be but isnt, especially after alcohol, long tiring day out etc.
I completely agree with the above. Should be banned for life from Thomson ships if caught. Some people have no concern for anyone other than themselves.
It is totally amazing that people think safety rules are only for others, but the really worrying point is that we may have been on board when this cruiser was and may be in the future so i would ask please don't do it again.
iv had some ironing did for me by barstaff who have travel irons
jess next time just speak nice to a barman when jay aint watching
LOL
So excited - my tickets arrived today - Destiny here I come......
Have a great time and not to much 'redwine'
