Im going on the Destiny on the 22nd Oct on the Med Renaissance. This is my 1st cruise aswell as being the 1st time I have travelled alone with my 7yr old son. My son has mild cerebral palsy and uses a walking frame to get around indoors and a wheelchair outdoors.
I was just wondering about a few things and thought you kind people may be able to help.
Firstly, any ideas what the weather is likely to be like around there at that time of year, should i pack shorts and vests for the day or trousers and cardigans??
Also, how easy is the tender boat to get on and off, I will have to carry my son on and then lift his wheelchair on so wondered how much muscle i will need,ha ha
I would imagine getting around the ship will be relatively easy with my sons walker as weve been told the wheelchair can only be used off ship but if anyone knows of any potential problems please let me know so i can be prepared. Ive booked an outside room on either deck 4 or 5.
Ive looked at the prices of the ship excursions and most seem pretty pricey and most of them probably wont be of any interest to my son so any suggested alternatives would be great.
Many thanks for any help
We have been on the Renaissance trip and its very nice.
Tender to shore for us on that trip was not a problem as the sea was ok but we have in the past had problems on others but the crew are always on hand to help. Villefranche is a nice stop off just to have a look round so I hope you can make it.
Problems you may have on the ship, doors to deck are heavy and you have a high step sill, this is to stop water in bad weather, you can't walk all round the deck without going up steps. you will have some steps up to the pool area and the Lido cafe. You will have to be careful walking on and of the ship as it can be steep with metal bars across the walkway to stop you slipping.
I can't think of any other problems, lifts are ok, you should not have a problem in the show lounge, and the staff of very helpful. We have seen them helping a lot of wheel chair passengers on and off the ship so i don't think you will be on your own.
So far as the weather is concerned that's a lucky dip but the inside of the ship is always a comfortable temp.
They do do some trips for the passangers with walking difficulties so look out for them a nice one was to Rome you just see all the sights frome the coach.
I am certain you will have a great time and not have any problems.

Hi Does anybody know if the Thomson Destiny is going to be replaced?
I have seen they are taking bookings for 2011 so it looks like at least 2 years left
is it true that there was no entertainment or celebrations pprovided on this ship for new years eve, friends of mine have just returned, and said there was none. i cant beleve that peop;e spend a lot of money to get away and nothing is provided, i was considering a cruise this year but this has put me off completels
Our cruise reports for this ship are here - last one being December
My mom and dad are due to go on this cruise in Feb and they would just like to know if there is any coffee and tea making facilities in the cabins.
Many thanks

A friend is going on a Meditteranean cruise on the Destiny in the summer. Has any one done this itinery & if so, are there any must do's at the ports:- Morrocco, Tangiers, Casablanca, Gibraltar, Almeria & Alicante. She's been on the Destiny before, so knows all about the ship. Thanks in advance for any replies.
Thinking of booking a cruise in August 2 adults and two teenagers 16 and 17. The only cabins available are inside on either deck 2 or 3. Would these be bigger than a normal twin cabin or do they just have extra beds and how much storage would we have.
Could someone pleae tell me the dresscode for evenings on the thompson destiny cruise ship please.
1 The cabins are very small and dated but absolutly fine as long as all 4 of you are not trying to get dressed/changed at the same time. Toilet and Showers very small but adequate. You have to squeeze into the shower. Dont drop your soap cause your ass will stick outside the shower whilst trying to retrieve it. 4 Birth cabins have the 2 drop down bunkbeds. Once your all in there it will be very cosy indeed. But their all the same which ever deck your on, unless you want to waste your money and book a delux suite. Besides once you leave the cabin in the morning your never back there unless it is to get changed for dinner. You can do that in shifts.
2. Dress Code. Casual during the day which ever restaurant you want to eat in. Evening dress for Lido is still casual. Evening dress for the Main Restaurant (Seven Seas) is Trousers and Shirt. Captains night is your own choice. Most passengers get togged up in their finery. Ladies/Girls very nicely dressed and Men/Boys in thier Tux or just Shirt and Tie with a jacket. The choice is yours, but as I said most will dress up for the Captains night. No jeans or 3/4 Shorts allowed in the Seven Seas Restaurant in the evening. I have seen passengers asked politely to go and get changed before entering.
Enjoy your Cruise.
Having been on the Destiny, i am afraid i wouldnt want 2 teenages in the same room. The cabins are very small with bunk beds which the cabin steward will drop down on an evening and raise them during the day. Yes we can say you will not be in your cabin all day but it will be a very tight squeeze. If it was me i would price up for 2 cabins and see what the difference is, are you getting free child places, im not sure what the age limit is. If not and you are pricing for 4 adults then i would be tempted to get 2 cabins.
Going on here 1st May for our 25th aniversary and was just wondering if they have safety deposit boxes in the rooms. Thanks. Di.
Yes they do. If you are in delux and above they are free in not you pay !!!
We are off in two weeks
Roger
Thanks rogerdoger - do you know how much they are. Also, are we best to take stirling cash with or or are there cash machines at the ports that we can use or on board. We have a nationwide card so don't pay any fees. Thanks again. Di.
