Hi I am new to this forum, my partner Ste and I came back yesterday from Akasya Apartments in Marmaris, we don't really like Marmaris but enjoyed visiting Icmeler we particularly loved The Chef Restaurant the food and service is excellent.

We bought an engagement ring and 2 wedding rings from Marmaris Gold Centre while we were there, I am now being told off people back home that we were probably ripped off, I am really upset as my rings are beautiful, has anyone bought from The Gold Centre and if so when you got back home and had them valued were they worth more, we will be having them valued soon

Has anyone stayed at the Akasya Apartments and if so did you enjoy it?

Hi Janet, welcome to HT!

From what I've read of buying jewelery in Turkey I very much doubt that you've been ripped off but, even if worse comes to worst and your rings aren't worth much more here than you paid for them there, remember you can't put a price on how much you love them and the memories they hold of when you bought them.

Congrats on your engagement!

hi janet.....

if you were happy with your rings when you bourght them, and happy with the price, then it doesnt matter what others say, congratualtions by the way :tup

Thanks to you all for your replies regarding our rings, I do love them and can 't wait to wear them, it would be nice if they are worth more than we paid just to show the people who keep saying we will have been ripped off that we haven't.

Thanks once again :)

My brother buys his wife a ring in marmaris every time they go.When valued here it is always worth a lot more than he pays. My neice bought a ring 3 years ago and when she got home she went off it so in its box it syayed.hey went back last year and while buying another ring she asked about the one she didn't like. They were very good the jewler bought it back off her for the exact price she paid him for it.I also asked about a ring my wife bought me here over 25 years ago as it had split he repaired it for me and the join doesn't show.so i think they are very good people in Marmaris and honest when selling thier gold.

janetkendall, I was concerned like you when I had a diamond and tanzanite pendant made for me while I was in Olu last year, although the jewellers over there gave it a value of £2000, I paid £1200 for it. One thing to remember though when you do have them valued here (normally done for insurance purposes), they will value it for how much it would cost for the rings to be replaced should they get lost. My pendant was actually valued at just under £5000 but the jewellers did give me a guarantee that if it wasnt valued 3 times over what I paid for it, that they would give me my money back and allow me to keep the pendant which they gave me in writing.

They also give me that value for 5 years, so if I wanted to upgrade my item of jewellery they would give me £1200 for my pendant. as it is, Im hoping to go back and get the matching earrings and ring that they also made for me, but I understand your concerns, but insurance valuations are likely to be higher than what was paid because it does cost more to replace them.

I hope that you have good news tho with your valuation *smiles*

Congrats too!

Friend at work is going to try Turkey next year through his time share.

Doesn`t want a transfer as long as Marmaris(2hrs)

So what decent resorts are close to the airports?
Reply
I don't have a clue about Dalaman airport, but none of the resorts on the Bodrum peninsula are more than about 45 minutes from the airport by private transfer/taxi. Add on another 30 minutes to the time if taking a coach transfer.

HI everybody,

My son's in Turkey with a few mates at the moment. They're staying at the AI Royal Garden Hotel in Marmaris. I've had texts to say that the hotel is lovely and both food and weather is beautiful. They went to bar street after the AI finnished at 11 one evening and found it very expensive :really and they're used to the expensive nightclubs in places like Playa D L Americas, Magaluf and Kavos.

He's having a great time and they've got a jeep safari booked for today and a boat trip tomorrow. He was on factor 40 at the start of the week and still managed to get a red tinge :think
