People don't usually haggle at the airport or in bigger shops, for example in a shopping centre. If you go into a shop and the goods are marked up with price tags then don't haggle but in the smaller shops and the markets then do.

Yes it is Ramadam but it won't effect your holiday. Memhet in our hotel told us it starts on 1st september.
Have a fab time we did.

Hi
I have just booked a week's all inclusive at the Royal Asarlik Beach Hotel in Gumbet for next September to spend time with my daughter before she goes off to University. I began reading reviews of the hotel & resort and one guy reviewed a nearby hotel & the resort in general and ranted about all my fears....rats, cockroaches & stray dogs :( :( :( :( !!!!!!!!!
Can anyone enlighten me as if he is correct, i shall be changing my booking immediately :cry !!!!!
All replies welcomed as I am now PANICKING!!!!!!!!

Thanks Myra - going somewhere new can be very scary, especially since we went to Corfu 4 years ago and were inundated with stray dogs....awful!!!!! :)

My name is Louise, and i love Turkey soooo much that im hoping to move there soon with my husband, and dog!! We will be living in Avsallar, which is a lovely town just outside Alanya, Antalya. For all those wanting a lovely holiday to Turkey that isnt as touristy as Marmaris etc, then i cannot reccomend Alanya enough, it truly is stunning!!!

Juliam,

We have just come back from Gumbet and we went into the Royal Asarlik as my husband's frined works there. It looks very nice and he says it is a very good hotel. It is right by the beach and close to the resort centre.

I lived in Gumbet for several years and i nevewr saw any rats (not the four legged kind anyway ;) ), cockroaches live in all warm countries but there are certainly no more there than anywhere else, I hardly saw any all the time I was there. There are dogs but again, no more than anywhere else and they aren't a problem. Sometimes people write reviews that are very one sided, maybe the guy who wroite the bad things just had a rotten time and wanted a good moan :que . Most people love it thre and go back year after year so i'm sure you will have a fab time.

Hi
Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. I know it sounds very stupid but I have a phobia of loose, wandering dogs, they terrify me so unless there are plenty of bars and restaurants away from where the dogs are, then I don't think that this is the place for me. Because of stray/loose dogs, I came home early from Corfu 4 years ago and hated going out because they were always there...are they right in the resort centre that I can avoid or will I encounter them everywhere.
Thanks again :)

I will ask her, but am sure she would have told me as she has a terrible fear of dogs.

Hi juliam

We have been on holiday in Gumbet and Bodrum every year since 2003 and can only remember seeing only one stray dog - hundreds of cats.

Hi Juliam we were in Icemeler last year and are going back in 2 weeks time. Never saw 1 stray dog in Icemeler. We have been to Corfu 4 times so I know what you mean by "stray dogs" although most of the stray dogs were nice. I like dogs and have one. Nothing to worry about in Turkey. Cheers

Juliam, the dogs are usually along the beach, you wont see any near the bars and restaurants so don't worry. As said before there aren't that many and you will mainly see them laying in the sun on the beach.

Turkey Virgin here! We are going in April 2009 for the first time and I am really looking forward to it. We shall be staying in Bodrum for 2wks and I just want to eat, chill and lay in the sun (please let it be mid 20's at least!) :)
Does anyone know how much the cab fare roughly are for 30km?

April usually has lovely weather, it will be perfect for laying in the sun. You may find it a bit cold at night though. Bodrum is a lovely town and April is a good time to go as it wont be too busy. I used to live near Bodrum and I loved it there.

Where are getting a taxi too?
